Haha... a guy named Joe driving a Ferrari. That's so funny to me for some reason... icon_lol.gif

Your gonna haze me at sometime? Damn I thought after I got out of the Corps. I was gonna be able to get away from that icon_smile.gif
Well that should take off now, I finally got a working computer at home last month, and finally got the DSL working after battling with it for two weeks straight now, so that and another project will be my next delving....
...the other project? Well, an all-80's sports car club, of course! icon_biggrin.gif
Surprised nobody's thought about it yet. Prolly run a phpBB software board like this site, but with zany colors to reflect 80's trends. Cars 1980-89, with the only exceptions being 70's car generations that had spilled into the 80's in their later years, and 90's car generations that spilled out from the 80's, i.e. a 1991 Dodge Daytona is valid because Daytona was from 84 to 93.
Sound reasonable?

I like the sound of that. Me and my friends are trying to get something like that happening, atmo we have 1 Renault Fuego, soon to have a suck-thru carby turbo set up (I'm not a fan of carbys+turbo's, but its his car, not mine) a Mitsubishi Sigma/Scorpion/Starion 2.6 Astron EFI turbo (We got the engine, just need a suitable donor body, hence the indescision!) an 85 Supra, soon to be pumpin a 1JZ and (when I find one thats right) my S12. Man now that I think abut it, we aint got much to look at, but when I say soon, unlike many people, I mean it. The hunt is on for a suitable Mitsu and an S12, and the Supra is in the process of getting kitted out with 1JZ. I wish we werent all so young and penniless icon_sad.gif it makes our dreams so hard to realise. Ours isnt limited to 80's cars, but rather cars that are uncommonly worked on, ie there will be no Skylines or S13's or whatever, no Civics with fart cans etc. But like I said with everyone being so young, its like a dollar here and a dollar there trying to meet or goals icon_sad.gif

Maybe this needs to happen!
When I move into the new place this month, I'll talk to Dan and get some advice on setting up a phpBB for the site, and we'll have our 80's car club.
How about Club Autopia?

Or Club Autotronica. Got to emphasize the electronics age that it was, plus it kind of reminds people of the movie "Tron".
There can be Knight Rider and Smoky & the Bandit pics all over the place, plus some Transformers and MASK. icon_biggrin.gif

heh the pics idea kicks ass!
Maybe Club Autotron?
I want a midi or some looped soundbite of Gary Neuman's "Cars" playing in the background for the splash page heh.

Damn this is a great idea....
It really hits on my general passion for late '70s and '80s imports. I was just thinking about that today when I saw a late '70s Corolla Liftback, like the '78 my father had from about 1980 until about '92...I grew up in that car.
Imagine a whole club full of RWD Corollas, AE86's and AE92's, 1st-and 2nd-generation Preludes (even Civics), hatchback Accords (remember those?), RWD Celicas, MkI and MkII Supras, 1st-gen. RX-7s, 280ZX's and Z31s, and of course S110's and S12s!
Ah, the '80s.....Transformers and He-Man were the coolest toys around, Micheal Jackson was still cool (and still black), all the girls wore those jelly sandals and leg warmers, and everybody wore jean jackets. I remember when sneakers with Velcro closures first came out, everybody got them and disrupted class with them. Around '84 you were cool if your family got a VCR, and the big decisions were VHS or Beta? Front or top-loading? And the video rental places were pretty small, often with one wall of VHS and one wall of Beta. My neighbors were really cool, they had a LaserDisc player, which stored a movie on a disc roughly 10 inches in diameter. Computers were something that the military and big companies had, and the Internet was composed of a couple dozen university mainframes wired together, but nobody really knew about it. When we started getting computers at home and in schools, the Apple II ruled over all, and what would later be called a PC was referred to as "IBM-compatible." Then the Macintosh came out, with something called a "Hard Drive" so you could start it up without a 5.25" floppy in the drive! Then there was my father's first "portable" computer that he had for work in the late '80s....it was the size of a suitcase.
Okay, enough reminiscing. As for colors and graphics for the club, definitely some bright '80s colors like lime green, some Transformer and Atari graphics, maybe Max Headroom....awesome. I like the idea of the "Cars" music on the splash screen.
We should definitely try to put this together. I'd help out in any way I can. I have some experience with PHPbb, but I don't think much help will be needed there. Just curoius, how many other members of this group are old enough to actually remember the early '80s?
