I can't see the vid as my video player is hating divx lately, but from the beginning clip i saw, he had a wing. I wouldn't be suprised if that wing was the downfall of the car. Any street car with a wing is usually bad news as far as extreme high speed is concerned. At anywhere above about 160 or so the rear wing creates enough downforce to lift the nose of the car substantially.
The key is, if he had proper front air dam aerodynamics to compensate for the wing. It is possible to run a wing at high speeds, but everything that does has some VERY aggressive frontal aero as well. Think of any major racing series, they all have pretty heavy front aero that no-one really thinks about.
I wouldn't be suprised if his front end just started to lift, he lost control for a second, over compensated (doesn't take much at 200+) and when the tires regained control the car was thrown into a roll. Maybe I can actually get my vid player to run it sometime tonight so i can see if my hypothesis is correct.
I have a pretty cool thread about guys running 200+ mph laying around somewhere, I'll have to see if I can find it and link it. Cool stuff though, I'd be interested to know the drag coefficent on a 350z too, because 200mph is no easy task. Takes quite a good amount of power. regardless of how long the track is. (although it is easier on pavement than say at bonneville)

I can't get the video to work either, however that is far beyond my expertise. I generally try to keep multimedia off all my machines to avoid headaches, but this would be nice to see.
Let me know what sort of tweaking you have to do to see it.
As far as aero at speed. There was a reason that 16 pressue sensors were located on the tub of the F1 cars we worked on. The floorpan, ground effects, and the wings front and rear need to work in unison, and a full size wind tunnel is very useful.....

Well you guys will see when you see the vid, but there is a bit of drama preceding the crash. The guy is cruising along at well over 300 kph when several very loud knocking noises are heard, presumably from the engine. Immediately the car begins to decelerate and more knocks are heard, and you can see the driver fighting with the wheel, apparently the car becomes difficult to control. At that point the car comes upon a curve and leaves the pavement, spinning sideways in the dirt shoulder and flipping.
The rollover was not caused totally by any aerodynamic effects associated with the extreme speed, since the car had decelerated to less than 250 kph before leaving the road.
I'm very curious to know what happened under the hood and why the car suddenly became so difficult to control. I wonder if some engine component came loose or broke and damaged the steering hardware.

I was able to view it with the latest version of divx player.
Driver did a pretty good job at bringing the speed down(!) to 217 b4 he lost it . If you look just after what ever it was lets go there are at least 3 wiggles he could have lost it at.
In terms of the wing.....I don't know... it just seems that any group able to get a car up as fast as that z was going would consider the aero effects at those speeds. looked like the hood had some speed holes(Homer tech tuning icon_smile.gif ). also for those that can't view the video there is a mechanical failure of some kind before the crash.
for anyone who cannot see this vid, just do a search for the nemo codec pack, it has everything you will need to watch most anything. zdnet.com used has it, i dont know if they do now

I try to best explain what happened. The driver said that he's reached his top end and can't accelerate further then 340km/h. But then...
"bon bon"- sound effect for something rattling
It crashed... 350 crashed... Dai-san just crashed! He was going straight then slightly turned right and flipped.
as emergency response unit form from this accident, as the heli leaves one can only worry if Dai-san is still alive. At first what is left there is nothing to see.
There is the 350Z (what is left of the 350Z) and THERE'S DAI-SAN!
Dai-san are u ok? (daiyaba-suto ??) I'm fine. Are you hurt anywhere? my hip. Your what? MY RIGHT HIP. Ok help is on the way pls rest.
SO WHAT HAPPENED?
Please watch the replay.
Something happening... I'm decelerating.... CRASH!
The rest get too technical for me but they investigate to what could have lead the destruction of the 350Z. Was it the drivetrain? engine? tires? We'll find out but first WHERE'S DAI-SAN???? icon_cool.gif

Guys from watching and listening to the video the engine quit. From the moment of silence before the clunks, bangs etc... of the engine coming unglued at the seams. My guess would be that it seized. Now from the video when this happened he was cruising along at 7300RPM's
As he downshifted through the gears the clunking, banging, etc... got worse. As soon as he shifted into 3rd gear the rearwheels locked and the back of the car veered to the left, he countersteered and the car flipped off the road and ended up in one big heap of scrap metal. When the car flipped he was going apx 220 kph.
For those of you who have never had an engine seize while at speed, never ever ever never whatsoever never let the clutch out to try to get the engine to refire. All that will happen is that the driven tires will lock and you will then proceed to slide your butt off until you press the clutch and free up the drivetrain so that it can rotate.
Learned that trick on a motorcycle (2 stroke, 100+mph)rockon.gif

The problem was with windows media player, not my codec. So i just went to www.divx.com and downloaded the newest version (5.1.1) of divx player and replayed it. Pretty interesting video, I'll have to watch it a few more times before I make any conclusions.

Bastards!! That was a nice 350Z. Now it's just a pile of scrap metal.
