if you are talking about a rotory good luck thats just rong the rotory powered cars need our motors lol

LOL I know, but that 13B is sitting right here in the Driveway LOL
And has no car. lol

I'm in need of an Engine. Mine blew up. LOL

Under those circumstances...go for it. If it is only the NA motor...it's not gonna be super satisfying...but still original....if it's the TT motor...holy biscuit gravy!. Either way,...forget the haters and do what you think will be cool...

Empedocles99Aug 2, 2006, 11:31 am · #6

Aren't the 13b engines from the rx7 which has a horrible reliability record in the engine department?

starbucksAug 2, 2006, 11:52 am · #7

Considering your circumstances, go for it! lol it would be interesting! If you do go through with it, post some pics.

NeedCAforS13Aug 4, 2006, 9:28 am · #8

there's a guy here in town with a SWEET 13b 200sx, but its an s110, not an s12. Custom mounts and driveshaft as well as wiring. Not terribly complex.

sam31183Aug 4, 2006, 4:00 pm · #9

Think of it this way. Way less wieght upfront, and the weight that is up there is back furthur behind the x member. If it is tt, go single turbo set up. If its NA go webers or something. There is only a couple people that can rebuild/port rotaries in the states with good results. So if it does blow up in most cases your better off looking for an new one...but if you can find em cheap who cares they will take no time to swap out if you do the swap right. If you switch it to webers there goes over half you wiring right there!!!

being an rx7 person i can tell you they are only unrelaible when modded incorectly....

the NA motors are very reliable

a turbo motorscan be aswell, however what kills 90% of them is impropertuning, leaning out and detonation will kill a rotary engine VERY quickly!

DO IT thats what im planning on doing but do it with a carbed one

with all that extra space under the hood you could put a oven rack in there and cook up some chicken while your drivin

200SX SE VG30Sep 3, 2006, 6:27 pm · #13

hey man I guess it's relative but I think the 13b is a great motor. if you can make it work go for it. I have always been awed by the rotory motor. fires six times per rotation, thats just cool.

fc3sdrifter121Sep 3, 2006, 8:47 pm · #14

wow, there is alot of people in here saying alot of hear say about rotarys , unless you own one you prolly don't know what you are talking about,

I think it would be a sweet swap.

go for it.

and there is ALOT of people in the states who can port a rotary,
I am one of them,

I ported my ols s4 n/a motor, and made 160whp w/ only intake exhaust and a small street port,

if you know what you are doing you can easily/safely get a 13b n/a to around the 250whp range.

but if you are doing a full custom swap I say find a 13bt motor!

DraconisSep 5, 2006, 4:53 pm · #15

Peer pressure!  Do it!  that would be sick.

And for all those haters... They just have to realize that the Silvia did have a rotary engine in it at one time.  It was the S11.  Same time as the Mazda Cosmo (I think).  It failed in sales and wasnt that good in producing numbers, so Nissan canned it and replaced the engine with a LZ (?) and renamed it the S110.

I think it's a cool idea.

sam31183Sep 5, 2006, 10:16 pm · #16

the most important thing to do tho when porting an rotary engine is to also port the oil passages. Like has been said tho, there is only an couple people in the states who can rebuild/port/build rotary engines to crazy numbers and be reliable.

abunaiS12Sep 14, 2006, 2:58 pm · #17

i happen to live in portland where theres a pineapple racing that repairs builds and ports rotary engines

sam31183Sep 14, 2006, 9:14 pm · #18

yes, i was talking about that pineapple racing. My step dad has an 12a built by rob and will soon have an 3 rotor fd monster which the engine will be completly built by him. Rob is the premier rotary guy on the west coast if not the states hands down. His rotary powered pickup/s can smoke corvettes any day of the week.

im buying a RE 13b with like 20,000 miles on it for about 1200 including shipping and it comes with turbos, intercooler, wiring harness, 5 spd tranny, blah blah blah everything seems like a good deal to me anyway best deal ive found so far im thinking it might be alot more feesable to go na with carburetor then turbo and fuel injected and all that jub jackin mumbo jumbo jibber jabbin jive

its always been my fantasy of having a s12 with a 20b in it. lately i have found some really good prices on low mileage ones too bad im so fucken broke as a joke. if anyone wants one they can be had for about 3000 problem is usually they come with the tranny thats auto but i found one with engine only so u can put a manual on it for only 2250 at flashoptions.com a really cool website with the cheapest engine prices ive seen yet

rotary engines are superior engines and they only get better in my opinion the new renesis engine is the best engine ever made

sam31183Sep 15, 2006, 2:11 pm · #20

my step dad paid way more then that for his 20b without transmission...but his was originally built down in australia makine 730 hp or so with an computer system i hadnt heard of yet...nor do i remember the name of it right now.

PaulSep 17, 2006, 12:26 am · #21

to run a 20B in an S12 you would need a standalone ECU

the stock ECU will not work without the automatic trans from the Cosmo, They work together as one unit and they will not work apart.

I had always had the crazy Idea Of a 20B mid mounted into a '67 Corvair corsa lol I will do it eventually when I have 9K to spend on a motor swap

hahahahaah, do a search on flashoptions

and n/a rotaries are reliable as hell
they just get finicky when a turbo is modded

i love rotary engines and i still think that is fuckin hilarious!!!

EquinoxOct 19, 2006, 11:37 pm · #26

go for it man  swap that rotary in there, however you should know for any rotary engine one of the first things that had to be done is a street port  if you don't do that you might as well not bother swapping it in. Other then the port rx7's can be powerhouses, a friend of mine in vegas has an older rx7 91 or 92 i think running around the 330-350hp range on the TT motor.  Good Luck witht he swap

abunaiS12Oct 20, 2006, 1:59 am · #27

thats a funny ass picture, the 13brew has 260 something horsepower or maybe its 280 i dont remember with stock boost, i think the best way to go would be to get the 13brew and be kind to it and run low boost on it. those sequential turboes are genius. the 13b s4 and s5 that are in the fcS i think would have a direct relationship with that diagram though but the fd engines are much stronger. 13b-rew 1600 bucks thats cheaper then an sr20det.

NamelessOct 20, 2006, 6:22 pm · #28

Lol no they are not, The twin turbo 13b i just a tempermental as the single turbo 13b. Rotary engines go pow from people that dont know what they are doing. Just adding a full exhaust can add over 40 hp S5 rx7, This extra boost can cause tons of boost creep from the tiny waste gate flapper on the turbo.

I love rotary engines, if i swapped one i would get one from an s5 rebuild it, Buy a new turbo, injectors, fuel pump, frount mount intercooler, rad, fuel cut defenser, a boost controller, and a haltech standalone. Then find a good tuner you can trust. If its tuned well, there is no reason you should be blowing your engine, as long as you take care of it. Remember oil changes are frequently needed on modified rotary engines, spark plugs also.

The 13b-rew has way to many vacuum lines that are prone to leaks and failures, because of the twin turbos. So you would want to swap to a single turbo setup. You might as well just buy a 13b from a turbo II rx7, abd upgraded from there. Same engine, just as much gains to be had.

abunaiS12Jan 24, 2007, 6:00 pm · #29

yea except for that they aren't the same engine, there the same basic design and size but the 13btt was built with stronger apex seals and more tolerance

sam31183Jan 25, 2007, 3:27 pm · #30

yah, but you should replace the apex seals anyways.

falkhenJul 17, 2007, 8:20 pm · #31

there is absolutly nothing wrong with rotory engines.

pro:less moving parts.
con:suppose to mean less maintence, engine runs on total loss oiling system. you have add oil weekly or your motor is fucked.

Pro: motor is light weight to its power ratio
con: there isn't enough mass to distribute the heat, requires a large 3plus row radiator. (when moded)

pro: its relitivly cheap to have rebuilt.
con: if its ported forget a rebuild. find another block
the chrome side walls wear out on ported motors becuase they run relitivly rich ported. Under these conditions and that in turn cuases oil scavenging, reducing the amount of protective lubricant on the side walls.

if your staying N/A and going and going to Port it don't go any further then a J or bridge port(this only applies for NON-PP engines)
reliablity is out the window at that point.

there is lots of other shit you can do, but hey its your car i don't really care...

Nice revival

If you want somthing that will make people shit its so loud go N/A and throw a corksport exhaust on it. That makes you sound like a chainsaw.... a really big chainsaw.

lol, I googled corksport rx7.  That sounds hilarious
falkhenJul 19, 2007, 1:10 am · #34

yeah i watched that too.. Kinda reminded me of a 74 Rolla with Monster ported 13b. That SOB was so loud it was mortifying. and i was directly behind it when they pulling off the trailer and it exploded its muffler. that event disquilified it from Street class racing. this is way back when IHRC was still around.  that little car went from thumpy rumble to terriable rapy crackly tsunamie of nosie.. i can't describe how loud it was....i remember it was idling at 2700rpms 100psi oil pressure, it smelled like race gas, and i couldn't hear my self scream...

that was in 97 later in 98 there was a pair of FD's posting 9's one exploded its rear end, the other almost lost control and hit the wall.

that was when me and eddy where running 95 Hyndai Lantra with 75hp shot of NOS and moded center force clutch(no body made shit for that car) we posted an 14.7 et. in 4 door grocery getter...

ok enough of me im up in the clouds..

TalkingGoatsJul 19, 2007, 8:44 am · #35

If you watch the corksport youtube/google video for the N/A That car sound like a weedeater.... I still love rotaries but if i slapped a fart can on one my neighbor would probably slit my tires....

gadget1382Jul 19, 2007, 10:22 pm · #36

i love the revability of them...

It's a consideration for the track car. Light Powerful and wicked noise... would even out the front to back weight too.

Anyone know how good they are when run on gas (LPG) ?

falkhenJul 31, 2007, 2:56 pm · #37

Roy Lockhead somthing or that matter..
i can't remember. what i do remember is that he was on the cover of TURBO magazine and his rx7 was propane powered. runing 9's

250whp on a NA setup is hard to do and wont be streetable. But having owned a lot of rotaries, i say go fo it. I got a whole gsl-se waiting for some action. I might put the motor in my s12 as well. GOOD THINKING!
VG30_S12Feb 4, 2008, 10:14 pm · #39

im kinda split on this one... I'm a big rotard... I'm also a now a big S12 fan... my heart says that id love to see it happen but honestly even though its completely pheasable, i don't know if it would be logical...

if you got the body sorted out(reduced the weight, get a good, non confused suspension under it, and pretty much just balance the car out)It would make a killer track car.. with the rotary's small compact design, it would fit further back and lower in the engine bay, AND on a track, most of the time, your in your higher RPMS anyway, that is where the rotary shines as a performance engine... Rotary engines make all of there power north on the powerband, and they have been proven over and over again, that they can handle overreving and high rpms longer.

As a streetable car? Its doable, thought i cant figure out why youd wana go through the trouble... LSDs and aftermarket for our cars are non-existant (cept for bartco) RX7s have a much more abundant aftermarket and lsd are plentiful... on top of that, i love my s12 as much as anyone on here, but is there anyone here, that could honestly  chose an S12 over an FC on looks alone?

I didn't think so...

as a cool factor, ice cold... but honestly with the money spent, id rather set up an FC. NOW if we were talking about that RaceSilvia guy with the red widebody S12 in finland, should he decide to go 13BT or NA 20B, I would just lose it

btw, if you end up doing, congrats and good luck, but imo your wasting your time trying to build an NA motor and 20Bs are about 10k to put into an FC. go 13BT and push "enough" boost, don't go crazy with 500hp or some crazy number... great rotarypowered cars are tuned with the balance of the body, not with the engine... and besides, boost kills rotary engines, but moderate boost with tunning can be reliable

na... if ya realy want some good rotary porn, go to youtube and look up Bridgeported and PeripheralPort NA motors, those are the ones that sound like pissed off chainsaws

and as always, go to RX7Club.com for cool vids, support and lots of flaming
