Well I pulled my ca18det after compression tests showed 130,125,100,105. Strange thing was it ran fine and sounded like I blew another lifter (only a slight ticking). After opening the motor up I found out that It detitnated and the pistons were chewed and the head was mangled. Not bad for ~30 drifting events. Now it's on to the next CA. It will be the third CA18 that I've had in my car. With the way things are going this will be even more fun than the last two. The new motor happened to have a t28 along with a OS Giken twin plate cutch and flywheel. A quick rebuild and some tuning are in the works to get this car ready for NorCal/SoCal Competition at buttonwillow.

He said another CA.........

Anyway......that sucks Eric. You've had 2 other ca-dets? I thought you still had the first one you had at the SF meet a couple years ago??
Good luck with the new one......post up some pics

I posted because i thought that another CA will probably enough, seems he fed up with such trouble...

Next step? SR, RB, VG or something newer?!

P.S: don't trash you're car and buy another one wink.gif

NO no no, The Ca18det is an awesome little motor. Antyhing bad that happened to it was thanks to me. Considering I overheated the crap out of it, reved it to the sky, drove it at least 1000 miles thinking I blew another couple lifters and all without proper tuning. This stout little motor has served me well for at least 20,000 miles. It just so happens the reason I bought the first motor is the same reason why I bought another. Cheapness.
Keith my first CA was the stock ca18et so technically it's my thind ca18. tongue.gif

CA18det's are strong as... you just have to keep them tuned if you are going to thrash an old one! tongue.gif

technically the first time we just put a old head on a new block...but the valves on number one where messed up so it melted a nice valve mess all over piston number one after like 70 miles of break in....yes, it was clicking bad and it started to run like crap...i thought that the timing belt was off...but it was the valves on number one since we never had the head checked out. 20e number 3 still turned and showed no mechanical damage, however i had a wiring issue, so i deemed it time to swap the thing out as i was tired of the headache.

sweeeeet you're going out to button willow. Too bad its only practice now, I guess not enough people signed up or something. My team was looking forward on going out there to go up against socal. Anyways, since its only practice i might go out there with my s12. Good Luck. I was hoping to see you at the lsat thunderhill event/practice, and i saw a white s12 thinking it was yours, but it was thunderhill's emergency car!! haha it was a ca18et with a full kit.

mad.gif Yeah never really made it due to stupid ARP Headstuds and their 1/2" 12pt nut that doesn't like to let sockets fit in my new CA's head. Oh well better to do it right the 1st time than fix $#it along the way to the event. I didn't even get time to put on the new Megan coilover prototype. Thats tommorow after I borrow a good camera. Anyway I live in Costa Mesa right now but my parents are in Brisbane and i'm up there all the time. Where in San Jose are you at?
drfts12Jul 25, 2007, 8:43 pm · #19

hillkill - well theres all kinds of drama going on in zilvia right now, so i guess theres gona be another event soon because norcal and socal cant get along i guess. Hopefully you can make it out there. I used to live right by myths12, but i just moved to sunnyvale not too long ago, right off Lawrence Expway.

rpsport john - thanks dude, i just wish i had more tires to burn up. Are you going to be at the next event?

good luck with your swap

OzchuckJul 31, 2007, 2:02 pm · #21

yeah rock that shit.
My CA has been going strong for a while now, and when it blows i might just rebuild it to avoid having to swap ever again biggrin.gif
