first off, no flaming plz. I dont care how not JDM-tyte v8's are, blah blah blah. I just want your technical opinion.

As i stated in other threads, i want to go for something supercharged. From what i'm told. CA's and KA's cant handle the low end torque and blow up. SR's get too pricy.
what am i planning? a V8 from a Camaro Iroc, or maybe from an older caprice.
something not too heavy, but supercharge-able, and with heaps of low end torque.
custom fab work isnt an issue. i get super cheap custom fab. any ideas what the cost might be?

discuss

you know, you could go with the lesser Mustang V6 and supercharge it, that'd put out decent torque all while keeping your weight lower than the V8 would be, and space wouldnt be as big of an issue.

But then, what do I know about V6's and V8's, im a 4cyl tuner =P, although I do know my friends 99 Mustang GT with the V8 (which is my target car to beat in a race) is wonderfully fast off a stop.

I don't see why a CA or a KA wouldn't be able to handle a supercharger, but if you're asking about v8's there should already be a thread about this. Not to mention a fuckton of threads about v8's on many 240 forums (or anything rwd for the matter), the info is out there and it's really just up to you who is/isn't willing to spend the money for it. LS series engines are the best bet imo, and I've already preached this across the board. Hybridz also has a nice v8 section, ls1tech is also where much information is. But seriously, search. It's a hot topic

edit: what the fuck is with all the v8 hate on club-s12, you sound like you're ashamed by thinking about putting a v8 into your car.

Small block 350 chev.

LS1 box behind it with a cable shifter.

Twist chassis

then realise you need alot more done to the car to make it work right

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

In all fairness, it would be a wicked beast, but would require alot of strengthening along with suspension adjustment. But alot of work unless you plan to make it a drag / track only animal.

Give it about 6 months.... and my s12 will be rockin a V8!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Heh, im not against V8's, i just know it'd be hell to fit such a large engine into such a small car, id rather go with an american v6 or a turbo'd 4cyl

PremoSep 5, 2007, 4:35 am · #7

if you plan going ford v8 (302 or 351) shoot me a pm and ill let you know what all is required granted you dont want to shove the firewall back. not sure on chevy v8's but really teh main concern is where your sump is as there's limited space..

An ls1 is lighter than a KA, you need to get your facts straight. It's not very healthy to generalize v8's, not to mention if people can drift with a the fucking pig that is the 2jz, or rb series engines, you can drift with a v8.

engine weight isnt as much of a problem, its more the size (length, width, height)

edit: post edited to get people to stop commenting on the fact that I didnt word my post right.

sure some V8's are lighter than some 4cyls, thats because in some V8's its got 8 gigantic holes in it instead of just 4, its about the same mass If you compare it, its more the size (length, width, height)

Ok. Well it didn't really add to the topic in question which was the weight of the engine and how it effects a "drift car"

it was stating that size would be more of an issue than weight, and also elaborating on the last persons post about how an Ls1 is lighter than the Ka24

some of what I post is for my own benefit as well as others, cause I'm still in limbo about what I wanna do engine wise.

I don't see how the size would be an issue, VH45's(q45) have been done, VQ35's have been done, 2jz, 1jz, ls1, 302, rb20/25/26, and even more. They all fit just fine. Even the VK56 has been done(nissan titan truck), and the vh45 and vk56 are both dual overhead cam while the ls1 is pushrod which means the ls1 is considerably smaller and lighter. No problems here.

edit: all these swaps i mention are in s13's, which shouldn't be any different

problem with the LS1 is the price. new ones are expensive, and where i am, i cant seem to find a cheap one. for the power range i want, the KA-T is much easier to find and boost up. there are plenty of 240's lying around that i can get practically for free, so i'm going with that.

DeathAndMajestySep 7, 2007, 6:22 pm · #18

Never mod a ford V6. Not worth it.

Go either 302, or 350.

Look into the MGB tuning scene. Many v8 swaps and v6 swaps around, and those cars are WAY smaller, if your serious about it steal some ideas from them.

Now, if you want somthing that will flat out own.

TURBO Buick Regal GNX V6's in the mid to late 80's all had over 300 lbs of torque and about 220 hp. Trust me thats plenty, and plent boostable and still light.

This was the last REAL muscle car.

just stop posting on this thread as you know nothing about what you are typing...

the ls1 is lighter than a KA partly becuase the LS1 is aluminum. an iron 4 cylinder block will weigh alot more that a small block v8 aluminum block. it really depends on what motors we are talking about anyways but just coming on here and saying some asinine shit like some v8's are lighter only becuase they have more holes is stupid

Yeah... six months eh

Small block fords and Chevy's are not as heavy as most people think. Just because they came in heavy cars does not mean the engine is heavy now a BIG BLOCK is another matter.

But seriously dimensions of an engine only affect weight distribution, Just because a V8 is wider than a KA doesnt mean that it will adversely affect the handling. In all actuality the V8 is about just as long as a 4cyl since if you think about it it like two 4cyl's side by side. So you arn't screwing up the distribution like if you were putting a heavy "LONG" sunova bitch RB25 or RB26 in there.

Also since these old V8's are Pushrod engines they are not nearly as tall as a 4cyl that sits straight up so you might actually lower your center of gravity a little bit.

And really there is no cheaper way to get power into a car than a 350 chevy. Cheap to buy cheap to maintain and Cheap to upgrade. Plus if you just carb it then its the easiest thing in the world to wire up and install into a car. you just have to fab the mounts and the lines to everything witch anybody who can weld and cut alittle bit can do.
