some of you already know of whats been going on in my garage but i thought id just chuck it up on here adn make it final. i pulled the VG some time ago and bought a 95 GT stang for a motor set swap. that motor turned out to be complete garbage so i recently bought a freshly built 5.0. this one out of an 88 GT. so its gonna be running 95 efi w/a 88 block and heads. essentially the same w/roller lifters. until i get the car tuned it will be carb'd. that efi crap is just on there for mocking up. the VG mounts were stupid close to teh V8. i seriously just cut the tops off, moved them towards teh front of the car about an inch and a half and angled them differently. the oilpan is a premo custom jobber as the rear sump would hit the x member and rack. the oil pickup is a custom job as well. i havent really gotten to far on this project as ive been spending most my days this summer surfing so its kinda lagging along lol at any rate, there it is. i also have some coilovers (ground control) w/eibach springs and tokiko illumina 5 ways, poly bushings all around, etc. pretty basic shit really. ill post some pics of before i started taking it apart for the noobs and some pics as it sits in the garage now. its really a tight squeeze and i had intended on moving the firewall back in its entirety for for space constraints i couldnt get teh motor to sit under teh windshield so just the trans tunnel is getting re-done. im not sure what radiator im going to go w/yet as teh stock SE radiator is tiny and the stang one was to big. go figure! lol fortunetly for me the stang radiator came w/an electric fan so thats a plus as a fan wouldnt fit. ill also be relocationg the steering linkage w/a u-joint and pillow block bearing to make room for the drivers side header (mac shorty headers). more on that later. for now here's some pics. as you can see, that hood cowel will definetly be necassary. the shifter lines up perfectly too btw. better imo, its a few inches back.. oh, sorry for the crappy pics, it was dark out and i couldnt be bothered turnnig all the lights on in the garage..yes, im lazy.

discuss lol

PremoSep 20, 2007, 3:39 am · #11

firstly...alex, you're gay.  lol

as far as it twisting the frame goes im not to worried as a set of different cams will fix that.  im not looking for a low end tq monster, im gonna toss in cams that will give me good top end.  besides, the chassis is good for it or i wouldnt of done it.  and thats what sub frame bracing is for.  ive planned ahead man.  as far as loyalty goes to one manufactured to another, i have none.  whatever gets teh job done.  i had planned on building up teh VG but eh, sbf's are SOO much cheaper to build and easy to get gobbs of power out of.  theres really just a stupid amount of aftermarket for the motor.  ill get some pics of the motor mounts within the next week or so, im a lazy bastard.

im surprised no one made any wise cracks on that gay leapard print dog bed in teh back ground my wife bought lol

Good on you Alex.

This is something that I am sure has crossed the minds of atleast half the members here at one time or another. I'm glad to see someone do it.

I'm curious, do you think you will have room for headers? do you plan on running a y-pipe or make some sort of dual exhaust? I hope you make it so the exhaust pipes come out right before the rear tires. LOL...All I have to say is BADASS!!!!

PremoSep 20, 2007, 12:42 pm · #14

thats actually what i was thinking about the exhaust.  we'll see tho when i get to that stage.  as far as headers go, there's all of about zero chance of them fitting.  thats where relocating the steearing linkage comes into play.  i believe i posted some pics of this on another thread just the other week, cant remember the thread title though.  dual exhaust tho w/an x or h pipe most likely.  but right now im more concerned on fitment then ill worry about things like that.

oh, and klox, i forgot to say..im not the first person to do this swap.  someone else has done it but he asked me not to mention names.  last i heard tho he was pulling his 302 out for a 351 but i havent spoken w/him for about 6 months so who knows *shrug*

LOL it looks like night-rider and I LOVE IT!

It's like a conveniently mashed combo of the trans-am and old school jap styling.

My girlfriend thinks it is ugly though so go figure.

PremoSep 22, 2007, 9:26 pm · #26

of course its ugly, its an s12! LOL

klox, ill try and snap off some pics of the mounts tomorrow or monday at latest

Put a line of red LED's on the dashboard that are designed to make the pattern of right-left-right like the scanner in night rider...

DO ITTTTTTT.

Maybe you could get the hoff to sponsor it?

PremoSep 22, 2007, 9:35 pm · #28

the hoff aint got shit on this lol

PremoSep 25, 2007, 3:54 am · #29

i was hoping to get some pics last night but my house up and decided to flood w/about an inch+ of standing water....so this was not exactly a priority  lol

i had the motor out to do some work (still need to finish the oil pan) so i just slapped the member on there, but you get the idea. i was a complete bonehead when i welded the mounts as i welded on the top plates backwards then followed suit by boxing in teh wrong end.  DOH!  thank god for a plasma cutter is all i have to say! haha  they looked fuckign sweet too, now its butchered crap, oh well.  ill grind/clean them up later and rebox them.  i also quickly sprayed on some primer too so it wouldnt rust.  ill paint it later as well.  hopefully ill get the firewall/trans-tunnel cut out how i need it adn get the transmission mounted this weekend.  yay

Fucked Over on Race Day

ill race you with my rx7 with a 406ci small block chevy in it

rx7s should have come with 350ci stock

New2DriftingSep 25, 2007, 8:05 am · #31

Oh, seeing these make me sick... a smallblock in a nissan?!?! Are you fucking serious?

HAHA, I can't wait til this weekend! I'm fabbing up the mounts and hopefully getting the ole 350 rebuilt. I bought the engine gasket set kit, new moly rings, freeze plugs, and main bearings. The engine runs GREAT but i figure I'll tear her apart and check everything out before I sink her in the car. She has about 100,000 miles on her, so it never hurts...

I would be doing this stuff during the week, but can't find anybody with an engine hoist to borrow. I guess I'll have to go rent one, since I live in a neighborhood with no trees, lol.

You hitching her to a 5 speed or auto? I have both, a good shifting auto, and a 5 speed in need of a slave cylinder... which one should i use. I'm torn. If I roadcourse her, of course I want a 5 speed, but for the dragstrip, autos are more practical for consistency. I have raced both and am good with both... just a little unsure of which I want to use. HOPEFULLY I can take some pics of mine this weekend and post em up.

is that post for real?! dude, take your mullet elsewhere..  i dont feel like having a gay ford<chevy, s-chassis<rx7 debate on my thread.

T5 (5spd).  im setting it up for road course.  the motor swap is the least of my worries..

i gotcha... i bought this car with the intentions to course race it (every kid's dream to "drift" after FAF3, lol)... but now i might just make a time attack out of her with an auto... i have some time to decide, i guess. both trannies are free, so that helps as well.

New2DriftingSep 28, 2007, 8:53 am · #35

roughly how long is your 5.0?... i measure my 5.7 last night and it looks about an inch too long... it's fab time.

PremoSep 28, 2007, 12:24 pm · #36

uh, its somewhere between 2 feet and fucking ginormous?!  i dont knowm man, most everything is custom fab on this.  the trans tunnel is getting cut out today and hopefully ill have mounts fabbed up by sunday.  i say hopefully as i have plans other then being in the garage welding all weekend.  just bought a new intake manifold for it too.  Edlebrock RPM air gap high rise 4bbl mani.  got a smoking deal on it from some girl on craigs, 75 bucks.  yay

New2DriftingSep 28, 2007, 1:40 pm · #37

mine is on the verge of 3 feet...and fuckin gi-normormous... haha. and here i was thinking it would be 20 minutes worth of work and i'd be cruising in this bastard. (kidding)

What radiator are you planning on running? Anyone know of a small but THICK radiator that will fit in the S12 without too big of a price tag?

Did you have to cut any of your firewall? Cuz I know I will have to, unless i plan on running one of those custom "dry engines", ya know... without a radiator. haha

Snap off some more pics... I will def have some this weekend. Both motors are prepped and almost ready to be pulled!

PremoSep 28, 2007, 1:49 pm · #38

*points above*

Premothe trans tunnel is getting cut out today and hopefully ill have mounts fabbed up by sunday.

im thinking about going w/the stock GT mustang radiator that came w/my 95 stang and modifying my frame rails to fit..this will give me a huge amount of cheap aftermarket.  but ill burn that bridge when i get to it.  i might just make a run to teh junk yard with a tape measure when im ready for it and get something there that i know will have aftermarket performance parts for.

OzchuckSep 30, 2007, 3:43 am · #39

Give the stock S12 radiator a run for its money.
I double dare you .

Did ya get the stuff done?

PremoSep 30, 2007, 4:19 am · #40

no, i got pissed at the pub(s) last night, went to a sil meet today and am now totally burnt out.  lol  i might get into it tomorrow though before work.

Ozchuck @ Oct 7 2007, 04:38 AM I see someones quoted you saying "lol @ bag of dicks" I wanna find the thread.
any help?

haha yea. thats an inside story (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ill share. when i moved from teh last place i had some 4 or 5 cars out back to deal with. one was the mustang, there was a dsm an s12 (which hill kill and i destroyed and rolled, i have a thread on it w/video..), a z31 and this S12. well, the Z.......hehe..... my mate and i got a can of black spray paint, spray panted a bag on the hood that said 'bag-o-dicks" with a bunch of dicks coming out of it, a big ol hairy snatch on one side then on teh other is had the general lee's '01' but with 'general pussy hunter' on it. then we parked a ford f150 on top of it. spray painted (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) on teh smashed head light and a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) on teh good one. haha i think have a vid on my old pda fone

Nitro @ Oct 7 2007, 09:25 AM How will you close the hole in the firewall? Weld a lots of metal? Try to make it at least good loking.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The more welding - the more rust on the car later in this places, the less she will live. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

uh, yea. ill probably just take the peice i cut out and modifity and weld it back in as that will probably be easiest as my welder at home sucks balls. and ill be primering and respraying the car so im not to worried about rust (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

New2Drifting @ Oct 7 2007, 09:02 AM That intake looks familiar... it's the one i just ordered haha. the guy at the engine shop told me it was pretty decent and with that and my 214/224 cam, i should be close to 300 horses

there was another one that i wanted but im going budget on this build and igot it off craigs for like 75 bucks or something

same story here. i got mine for $145 from advance. ended up being on the shelf and they didnt even know they had it. haha. it's only the performer though, not the RPM, the EPS. it's still a high-rise, non EGR though, which is what i was going for.

jk
i need to go to the wrecking yard this weekend and get some parts before i can continue. ie, some u-joints and shafts for my stearing linkage and my rear end crap. i took my rear end out a while back as i was prepping it for an s13 swap but moved twice and lost my hanger and all the bolts for the diff. doh! also need to find a tail shaft as that seemed to have disapeared as well. could of swore all this crap was in a box inside the car?!?!
