2009 Club S12 Calendar

Just an idea here and I'm assuming it must have come up before at some point.

I would love to be sporting a nice S12 calendar at my work desk, my room, the garage and anywhere else I can think of.

Maybe it would work like this.
Entrants would submit high resolution photo's of their cars. The shots considered would be photographed with nice scenery (no garage photos). I suppose the primary shots would be of the exterior of the vehicle with the option for a small inset image of (engine, interior, or whatever is special to look at). High resolution 300dpi, color corrected and retouched if necessary. Retouch issues could be a sticky subject. We could set up guidelines for this as well.

We could do a poll on the top 12 cars with the highest ranking winning the cover art. In the even of a tie, we would have to break the tie somehow. The optional cover could just be the club logo.

Anyways, it's just an idea. Could we perhaps gauge peoples interest on this and see if it would be worth the print costs to do it? I'm sure we have enough resources here to do the actual layout, retouching, copy, print and distribution.

Let's hear from all active members who read this. Does this sound like something you would want on your desk?

Colin and I have discsussed it, it will involve some kind of contest and voting. I was on another site where it was purely up to the admins, and of course despite their promises, only their friends ended up in it. I hate that shit, especially when I know I and a few others had good photos. And yet they had three months with cars that were virtually clones of one another. With poor settings. But whatever. Ours will be better.

What submissions that will make it will be GOOD shots. Less important if you're stock or not, and more important:

1. How clean your car looks.
2. The setting you take the picture in.
3. The camera creativity (angle, lighting, etc).
4. If there are a dozen other submitted cars that look identical to yours, but your picture is better in the preceding points.

After that, we'll put them to a vote if there's more than 12. We'll pick one for each month, bi-weekly polls for each month.

This is just the preliminary idea. It's probably going to be run through the club store. If the admin finally responds to our messages (Colin, weren't you supposed to look into that?)

Anyways proceeds will go to the club, not to anyone's personal pocket.

For now, just take your pictures. Don't submit them yet to anyone or post them. Besides, posting them will just give others ideas to improve and beat you out.

We'll post an announcement soon enough.

Cool. I didn't know it was already taking place. I must say, I'm not looking to gain points on this. I just want some killer S12's to stare at. The idea came originally to have a folder full of nice S12's for screensavers. It's kind of a pain having to dig through the threads to find the shots I'm looking for. Perhaps the one's that don't make the calendar can all be zipped up and made as a download for a small donation to the club to cover bandwidth and so on. I certainly don't mind supporting however I can.

I still love getting comments on the club shirt.

Well it's gonna happen now... the announcement about the change of ownership lets us do the calendar as we expected. It'll be sold as a club item, with proceeds going towards the club bank account, not our personal pockets. That way we can use the funds to help pay for other cool stuffs.

hmm sounds like a great idea... we could even add smaller engine bay shots of the winners in the picture if the engine bay warrants it

What would be cool too, maybe... is if one of the months featured JUST engine bay shots- a collage of engine bay shots representing all the varieties of engines put in these- as in a good shot of a CA SOHC, CA-DET, KA, VG, SR, RB etc all put together. Kind of a representation of what variety can be found in these things...

If we were to do this there have to be minimum picture requirements. As far as quality and resolution go. I dont want to pay 30 bucks for calender full of pixelated pictures lol

I need to do a minor color correction, and format ONE page only to fit a bit differently... the latter issue I have exact measurements and know it will work (won't need to see it again), but the color.... Sterling saw it and loves it, but I think it's not as "blue" as I would like it. I have the printing company taking a look at it as I type this... Still, it's pretty damn good. All 12 months look really good, that's for sure.

Who's going to be paying for rush shipping?

Do you know how many Oz deliveries there will be?

RUSH is 15.00 or so depending on where you're at in North America, and I think I can get it to you in a few days. Otherwise it will take 1-2 weeks I think, but it's a lot cheaper.

Are you guys going to build a zip file with all the cars in one place for us to download in the coming months after the calendar has been out long enough for it not to be spoiler territory? Phew that was the longest sentence. I'm willing to pay for the link within reason of course. I value your time and your bandwidth.

At some point we'll be offering them for use as backgrounds or whatever.

I contacted the print company as I mentioned before, and I emailed them a picture of the calendar I received vs. the image on my screen. They believe they made a printing error and they're rushing me another one. Again, I'm sorry, but I won't offer anything for sale until I feel it justifies the price.
