Well since Eightysix200sx decided to bring back the thread...

For all of you that think the Genesis coupe is bad ass it is BUT weight is where the Koreans show how much they are behind the rest of the world. The turbo 4 cylinder Genesis weighs 3,400 pounds and the n/a v6 weighs 3,600 pounds. Clearly based on the weight differences between engines the car itself is just extremely heavy. I personally hate heavier cars so the fact this car with a v6 weighs as much as a 3000gt vr-4 is sad. I mean the s12 SE's weight tipping the scales at 3,000 pounds to me is heavy. The Genesis with the turbo 4 cylinder shouldn't weight anymore than 2,900-3,000 pounds. I think Hyundai will sell a lot of these because of the image they are trying to give it (think Superbowl drift commercial) but sadly when you really push these cars to their limits you will quickly realize how much of a difference all that extra weight makes.

As for the s16 I have heard a lot of news going around it is going to be cancelled due to the current credit crisis so I wouldn't hold your breath for it.

your comparing weights between a car with no abs, no airbags, no other crazy ass stupid safety devices from the 80s to a car loaded with lots of unnecessary safety bull shit. I am sure in a couple hours the hyundai could shed a couple 100 pounds easily.

That is true but look at say...a 98 s14 with abs, driver and passenger airbags, and all the other safety stuff from the late 90's. Even the newer s15's are still basically the same weight range as the s12, s13 and s14's. Sure you can gut your brand new interior and get rid of some of the extras but you would still probably only save a couple hundred pounds at the most. Then you have a brand new gutted Genesis that still weighs 3200 pounds (the turbo 4 cyl anyway) compared to a fully loaded 98 s14 that weighs 2850-2900 pounds. While you make a good point about all the safety features adding weight the bottom line is that the Genesis is just a heavier car.

Hyundai Genesis:30,000
Side-curtain airbags: 2,000
Worthless stero: 500
Awesome alloys: 1000

Knowing I can build my s12 with less than 10,000 and whoop a Genesis just for fun:

PRICELESS
