I've been member here for near two years, but never did an official build-up thread.. So here it is.

First, I'll just write a short historical of my car since I've bought it.

So I bought the car around april 2005. I was 16 at that time. Didn't know a fuck about this car unless it was RWD.. and that was all the matter to me!

Here is what it used to look like when I bought it:
The damage was estimated at 1,800$.. wich was the value my car worth for the insurance.. so they gimme the choice... crap it and get 1,800$ or get it repaired with 1,800$ from my insurance.. So I decided to repair it.. and get the exterior completely resprayed at the same time!

I didn't want to get a weird mix of interior and exterior color, so I just end up keeping the original blue and get the hood and the lip kit painted black! I think it does look good doesn't it??

Bended on both side. Not a lot, but still bended.
)
Urethane bushing kit
and of course LSD!!!

That should make a not too bad ride! ^^

*Off-Topic: Haha I just read somes of my first posts.. my English is sooooo much better than it was!*

Looks great man, keep up the good work!  Dig the paint and the COOL matching toy model you have!!

haha awesome looking notch also are those megan coilovers still available and what do you need to make them fit?

200sxkitcarOct 22, 2008, 12:54 am · #4

lol Jason, those are the ones that were developed with this club's help.  You have to swap the front to S13 knuckle, etc, and then they are bolt on.  I would imagine they are still available...

ArroOct 22, 2008, 1:51 am · #5

Search around J, there's LOTS of info on this forum about them

DjayS12Oct 22, 2008, 4:30 am · #6

Ebay! This is the red notch you can get. Mine is now a RC! I've took apart 3 different RC, build them a custom frame from hyper-glue and plastic pieces to fit the body!

Costed me about 25$ Shipped from Japan!

A few more pics for you:

I thought those were still in developmental stage when I looked a few months back they were still being made lol so I haven't went back to thread since because we know how some things go on this site someone brings it up it goes on for few months then just ends with no result

No you can get them since about last winter.

Also I'm curious, how many member have the kit right now?

Thats awesome, were helping you with your english, lol
Also your car is so clean its one of the reasons I want to build my Notch
AND THROW THOSE HOSHINOS ON THAT RC CAR JUST FOR A PIC!

Actually, thats a good idea for the calendar...find like a high curb or something that you put the RC car on, and take a pic of it with the car just behind it...get a good clean shot of the car though, dont let the RC be the center focus..it needs to contribute to the photo not be the main point..needs to be in a way that people see your car lookin shiny and beautiful FIRST, then just HAPPEN to see the RC car, but the RC car still needs to be full enough to know what it is...
hard to do, but if you pull that off I think it would look great

DjayS12Oct 22, 2008, 10:26 am · #10

Too bad the oshinos are too large to fit the body! They will stick out by a good 4mm.

I love your idea for the calendar too! ^^

As for my english, I'm now living in Nova-Scotia.. surrounded by english XD. But to be honnest I think this forum did help me a lot in my english writing! Sometimes I look at some old post I've made and ... Wow it look retarded haha!

dude our cars are too much alike lol. i have my xe rim as a spare in my trunk also. well they were alike mines not blue anymore. lol what coincidence. thats my concern also is the excessive rear camber the car will get once it is dropped. how are the ssc's on lowering/camber not too bad right?

I'm not on the SSC kit. The kit I have is the Megan Racing coilover kit. The kit is nice! I love it.. but still my first coilover suspension ever, so I cannot really compare it.

Why did you leave the sky blue notch club?  Kidding your car look awesome with the flat black paint!
GermrotOct 22, 2008, 3:52 pm · #13

wow nice work!  suspension is my #1 priority for my build.  I can't stand how loose it feels right now with all the stock parts.  okay wait... suspension is #1 right after i get out that '84 stock tape deck and get some kind of real audio device in there.  my CDs are wasted sitting in a case not getting listened to haha

just to clarify, Megan didnt actually make them, megan distributes them.  another company made the kit.

about how much did you pay for the suspension kit?
DjayS12Oct 24, 2008, 2:58 pm · #21

about 1100-1150$ CAN shipped! From a speedshop of montreal. So that saved me all the duty and etc.. if I had buy it from Ebay or US.

LyniumOct 24, 2008, 7:26 pm · #22

that is sweet! cant wait to see it all come together!!! your cars so nice n clean compared to mine... one day.. one day... it realy does suck trying to build up these cars on a tight next to nil budget... i wish I could just spend a day and order everything i ever wanted for mine and have it all show up in a big crate!

Sincerely I'm really running on a budget too! It took me a year to get all the parts for the suspension parts and the wheels.. I did some good money last summer I must admit (assistant-foreman at 18!   ) But now I'm back to school and my budget is really limited! That's partly why I'm building my cage by myself, it will cost me nothing here. Free raw material, all the tool I can dream of, etc..

aye... its kinda like where i work, i can use all the tools and equipment, work on my cars whenever on my free time, and they're pretty lenient on using some of the shops supplies etc... for example, my exhaust cost me a whole 14$ to redo... one stick of pipe, and doubt they woulda cared if i hadnt mentioned it... a normal exhaust job from the block back, (exhaust manifold gaskets, and from where it turns into a single pipe back) re-using old manifold would be like what? a few hundred?
dont have to pay for brake clean/parts cleaner, grinding disks, gases for the torch or mig, or wire etc... plus, having my choice of a drive on, or 2 post hoist is sweet!
I can do my own allignments for nothing, and usualy buy my parts through the company on the international accounts, like napa or bumper2bumper and end up with a lower than over the coutner cost... but not by much mind you. also, access to alldata and a butload of other info, plus now i know the ppl to goto for different things.. which machine shop for driveshaft work and.. yeah...
it still costs a butload, but all the lil things do help some. Also, several journyman mechs to ask questions and con into takin peaks of things.. hehe...

Poor joey.. i must ask him a million ??  a week...

Cant wait to see your finished project!

I really like your wheels. I have been wondering what a set of them would look like on an S12.

DjayS12Nov 5, 2008, 4:52 am · #26

Daaaaahh the first snow show up this week end!! I must weld my floor SOON! lol

And also I've ordered a set of racing seat. They should be arriving this week or by the beginning of next week! And a set of Tein tie rod.

Can't wait to receive my seats!!

IggyEGuanaNov 6, 2008, 12:36 am · #27

Very very nice car man.  Absolutely love the MK1 notchness.  Your car is very clean and looks very good in blue/black and those sweet wheels.

DjayS12Nov 17, 2008, 1:06 pm · #28

Ok here is a small update. Now I've cut out all the rusted metal.. but I can't weld the floor for now since I'm not allowed to weld in my car inside the shop.. and there is no 220V plug close enough from the door to make it possible. What they told me is that they are looking to get 120V mig welder.. but since it's the governement.. it may (read will) take a long time before they made a move. So maybe I will put a seat in and get a quote from a bodyshop just to weld my panel.. and then do the painting myself after.. or do some gaz welding.. dunno.

So I made a flange adapter to put my foam air filter.. took me about 3hrs to do everything lol I was in a hurry. But I'm happy with the result, especially since I haven't weld for months and got no scrap metal to ajust the mig with.. so I just guessed a voltage, a wire speed and a gaz pressure and adjust it while dooing it.. It came out well lol!

Top notch notch

Exactly. What I like on them is that they are badgeless. Enough off those knockoff recaro and bride seats!
TwoSixtylerDec 21, 2008, 11:46 am · #34

Ughhh I bought my Rx7 with APC seats in it.

Better than nothing, but. damn.

Those leatheries are nice though!! Almost bought skyline seats for $500 to throw in my datsun a couple months backk... wish I had. It really is hard finding decent rice-less seats with any sort of support these days. Good find!

NissanNateDec 22, 2008, 9:47 pm · #35

hey for welding on the body of the s12. i would only use a tig or a 110v mig welder. otherwise you might have some trouble especially if you don't have much welding experiance / welded in a wile.  if you do use a 220 turn it down low dont be afraid of the wire speed keep it up and do short bursts. also they do have 220 extension cords. i have a video of me making some nice sheet metal welds with a 220 might help ya out pm me and ill link em up.

DjayS12Dec 22, 2008, 10:08 pm · #36

Yeah the college just bought a 110V mig welder so welding will be very easy. I will start to weld back my floor after my christmas vacation. It's about time since it've start to snow here!

NissanNateDec 22, 2008, 10:42 pm · #37

Cool wile your welding that you might want to weld up some of the seems like i did on my build(for rigidity and strength). just make sure the seems are very clean. the cocking in the crack (ha ha) expands with heat and will cause porosity in the weld. it get everywhere makes a mess etc.

200sxkitcarDec 22, 2008, 11:46 pm · #38

caulking? lol

that shit does make it a bitch to weld tho.  wire wheel as much off as possible before going at it, there will still be some in the seams but you do what you can.

NissanNateDec 23, 2008, 12:08 am · #39

One thing i did was put some coat hanger wire in the seem as a bridge. in the really deep crevasses that is and after getting as much crap out as i could of course.

Don't worry guys. I got some welding classes! I know my shit enough to weld some thin metal sheet

good idea on the coat hanger wire for filling gaps!!

seishukuDec 23, 2008, 7:29 pm · #42

Make sure you take off the lacquer finish first, it'll screw with a MIG weld too.
TIG isn't too bad with coat hanger, it'll usually burn it off before the wire melts.

Please don't put those pedal covers on there... They look absolutely horrible, I hate them. I had a set in my '93 Escort, good for nothing. The clutch one would not EVER stay on.

I love your S12 though!   Inspiration for me to do something with mine, although, I would be ordering parts for it if I had the funds. Hopefully I'll be employed again soon!!!

I don't plan on using them with the clips provided.. I'm probably gooing to drill them directly on the pedal. The main reason why I put these is that I wan't to shim my gas pedal upper.. the way it is I cannot use my right foot for heel-toe because de gas pedal is way too much deep.

And personnally I don't think they look ugly

Ehh personal taste   , good plan with drilling through them instead of the clips. Those clips are garbage lol.

Ok got some update! The car took the road this weekend! Appart of an headlight issue everything is fine!

For your interest, I've bought a Autopower 4pts roll bar. My worries were about the fitting that was suposely giving 1-2inches at some places. Well, first the cage is really solid and tight as hell! I can't fit a finger between the door pillar and the cage or the roof and the bar (I have the power sunroof though).

Here are some updated pics!
