ok, i know its weird to de-turbo a ca18det but i actually have a complete ca18det with transmission and complee wiring and ecu.thing is i am planning on using this engine on my pa10 stanza drift car and would like to get used to n.a power before i go on to more powerful engines in drifting.
wht do i need to get the ca18det to produce good power in n.a form?wht parts do i need?i read somewhere that using ca16 intake cam would work on the ca18det cos it has more duration.how bout pistons?wht kind of high compression n.a nissan pistons would match the ca18det?seriously, i hope someone can give me some advice on how to get this ca18det i have here to be a n.a screamer.as i have heard the jdm guys have made good power in n.a form running ITB's and all.i really dont know much about this engine so was hoping to get some pointers.
any ideas on whtpistons, or combo that i can use with this engine.

any opinions guys?

really need help here///pls....

Don't do it. if you want to spend that kind of money, then get a KA and put that in. I don't understand why you would want to try to build a turbo motor for NA in the first place. If anything, sell the CA and use the money for a KA swap, or just kepp low boost till you get comfortable to turn it up.

should have just bought a CA18DE if your dead set on the CA line of engines. Simple. Done. no take steps backwards for no reason.

side-note: I've seen Honda B18 pistons work on a CA (nicoclub) I know those things can be found in upwards of 13:1 compression ratio.

just build a high comp. KA and be done. You'll like/need the torque over a N/A CA

CA18DET in stock form is not a high powered engine. Just keep the engine stock and turbo?

stock is the best way if you want something thats super reliable and puts out a fair amount of power.i mean, the company did spend millions designing it that way.

well i wanted to use the ca18det i have mainly due to 2 reasons, 1-i already hae one , 2-i want a lighweight and agile car and the nextbest thing to a 4age was the ca18det.
so basically a ca18 in n.a form isnt worthwhile a project in a drift car?then the best is still maintaining the turbo on it and use it as it is then.
are the n.a ca18de's that weak?

think about it, youve heard everyone on here discuss how little power the ca20 makes, even if you increase the compression on a ca18 i couldnt see how you could make much more without spending tons of $$$ to build a high-reving, high compression ca18. on the other hand, if you leave the boost stock, or even lower it, then you would have exactly what your requirements suggest for very little $$$. and, you could, as you get more comfortable, slowly start increasing the boost as you realize you want more power. its almost free. once you build it into n.a. it will be very difficult, or impossible, to put the turbo back on without destroying all those high dollar na parts you installed.

This statement quite possibly sums it all up perfectly. You're expecting the CA18DET stock to be some kind of beast drift3r monster engine, and it's not. Neither is a stock SR20DET, either. Those engines you see on pro drift cars are heavily tuned, inside and out.

The CA18DET with light factory boost will not overtake your driving skills if you don't drive it crazy right away. Its your foot that controls the boost, go easy, and it will be fine. Just put it in as is, you won't be disappointed.

if you de turbo it you will have a fairly low cr ratio na.. it be fairly laggy compared to a ka24de with a 9.5:1 cr

whats realy weird is that i was thinking about a the posiblity of a ca18det motor de-turboed, at work today for some realy strange reason wacko.gif don't ask me why, sometimes my mind just wanders

well, it does happen to me too.

anyway, looks like keeping the ca18det is the next best thing.i always enjoyed how the many toyota ke70's with 4age's perform in drifting here.

in weight terms, would a ca18det be much more heavier than a ca18de?
