I'm sorry dude... but i've got to disagree... Do u really those were respectable means of keeping prisoners? If Obama's getting rid of our "torture camps" i think he's actually making america respectable again...

Just to get at this before it's too late, feel free to discuss and have educated arguments as to why you think you're right. But as it stands, I can easily see this becoming a flame war and pointless with people just saying stuff without any backing and such. If I feel this gets out of hand, I'll close this thread.

IBTL lol

I think its a good idea, however I think the current prisoners who have committed higher acts of terrorism (not like your piddly buying weapons from across the border kinda shit) but like major plans to bomb things and such, should be tried in court first, THEN the prisons should be closed.

I agree... I mean the people that are in there should get a trial and be made to serve for what they did do, but there's laws of war and we need to follow them if we expect anyone else to. and if we are following them we shouldnt need to keep 'secret' prisons.

in my opinion.anyone who tries to terrorize people with guns, kidnap, and suicide bombs should be put in a hole and pissed on everyday for the rest of their short life.these people do not deserve any protection or rights.they have no regard for an innocent childs life.why should we have regard for them?

GarageBurdenedS12Jan 23, 2009, 10:56 am · #9

Because as a nation we're formed around the belief that human life has a higher value then that. If we start excluding some of our enemys from the basic right's that we've agreed too then where is the line drawn. Our military/govn't can just keep pushing it till there's no return...

I am an Obama supporter (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) And I agree that some of the techniques used in our "private" prisons outside the US could be called unconventional. But ok, we can close those prisons because we are being shunned by others and presto chango we are a perfect world! Yeah right, that makes absolutely no sense. Thats just a bandaid for our cloudy image to the rest of the world but it doesnt mean that it will keep ALL terrorists from doing bad things. Thats ridiculous, I dont see his reasoning here. Unless maybe he would make it seem like we arnt hiding secrets from the world by moving these prisons inside the US. That would make sense, otherwise I say screw his plan. He better have a good excuse for this!

This is good news and bad news.

The good news is that Obama has actually followed up on his promise to close the Guantanamo prison, one of his campaign promises. However, I'm not going to check it off on my checklist yet because the bill he signed says that it must close within a year. Until it ACTUALLY closes, I am not checking it off the list.

The bad news is that the prisoners in Guantanamo are simply going to be shipped to another prison. This is a solution that accomplishes the goal of getting rid of Guantanamo, but does not address the real issue: the rights of terrorist suspects. And everyone knows, when you move a prisoner is the best time for them to stage their escape. And some of these guys we do not want out there in the world.

So plus ten for promise-keeping but minus several million for good judgment.

Where they decide to send them is apparently still up in the air, but I've heard some will be released back to their countries and some may even be held in American prisons.

Honestly, if they're released back into their countries, they're going to commit terrorist acts once again. If they're sent to prisons in their countries, they'll probably be treated much worse than they are at Git-mo.

If they're held in our prisons, they prisons will have to be re-designed with special holding areas just for the terrorists. I say this because if they were put into the general population they wouldn't last 10 minutes.

I don't really see the point in closing the prison. I could understand changing some of the tecniques used there, but closing it just creates another problem of what to do with the prisoners.

As for trying them. I've read that some of them still can't be tried because evidence is still marked "Top Secret."

Listen.

You're going to get this thread locked. I disagree with a lot of Obama's ideas and I did not vote for him, but if you want to bad-mouth him or anyone else without making a well-educated statement than you're wasting your time and everyone elses'.

If you don't have anything to back up your statement, then don't post pointless statements.

I can easily see this becoming a flame war and pointless with people just saying stuff without any backing and such. If I feel this gets out of hand, I'll close this thread

im not trying to flame this whole thing or anything.this is an adult conversation.this man has little experience.i personally think hes more of a puppet than a president.a front man if you will.he is showing weakness already.terrorists are not people.they deserve nothing but what we give them.how hard is it to see this----he closes the prisons down...then he says we need to leave iraq.the terrorist see that we want no more fighting and just bring the bombs and terroroism over to us,and take back iraq.then were at less than square one.

it's a saying from a game and I'm going to apply it here

"let america deal with america problems, let iraq deal with iraq problems. TRYING TO STOP TERRORISM IS LIKE TRYING TO STOP CRIME NOT GONNA HAPPEN EVER. who the F cares about iraq were wasting money we don't need to...

i can make a bomb out of home appliances so don't start with that "they'll bring bombs over to us" shit. and airport security is so fucking tight is ridicules even before 9/11

EDIT: sorry bout the caps, went a little wild there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

im not saying theyll bring a bomb here literally.they will bring the terror here.theyve proved that once.they will do it again if they get the chance.hes giving them that chance.showing compassion to these guys because they get what they had coming in prison is a stupid idea.can you argue that?is it ok to show compassion for a man who plans to bomb a school with c4?or a guy who has bombed buildings with innocent people in it?NO.absoloutely not.
