I'm at the very end of a 2 hour drive tonight and I'm getting off at my exit. Its been snowing and its hard to see where the exit begins so as I'm getting off I cross over a section of slush and I'm going about 45-50mph. The tail whips out and I manage to correct it about 3-4 times with the last one being a concerted effort to miss a big light pole. I just miss it and the car goes completely sideways now at about 40mph and slides down into a ditch. At this point I'm hitting really tall grass and praying that I dont flip over. The car ends up doing a complete 360 by the time it comes to a stop. After I check myself out I jump out, car looks ok. I walk back up the road and realize that at 45mph or so I missed that light pole by less than 5 feet and slid for over 300 ft past it! Long story short a guy with a 4x4 Jeep Cherokee came and got me out. Car seemed ok on the 3min drive home but I'll check everything over in the morning. GEEZ!

Yikes, nice save man! Glad to hear you're alright, and would suck to trash the car after all that work!

Close call..

that reminds me when it snowed, i was driving around fine, but it started to ice over.. So I was on my way to j-man's house and took a turn too quick.. Long story short, I got out of the car, and my front marker was about 1cm away from the pole.. I was soo glad, cause clear markers aren't a dime a dozen..

damn that is lucky, hitting stuff at freeway speeds is NOT fun, i can attest to that

Nice save! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumbsup2.gif) I used to go back and forth from Cincy to Dayton and there are some spots of I-75 that SUCK when it snows, seen lots and lots of accidents on that highway. Target has a special on underwear this week, just in case you need a fresh set.

Glad you both came outta it in perfect condition! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I've never realy been in the ditch... just once, and i more or less just drove into it, and drove out, of course i was in the old mans 93 chevy long box extended, and a basicaly flat ditch...

One of my old GFs slammed her newer style sunbird i think it was into a post doin 120 km/hr... spun out etc and slid into it backwards.. it was harsh, wrote the car off... she was fine.

I dont think 40-45mph woulda been much different...

Glad you and your car are safe. I know what you mean about the crappy roads. I picked up my friends car in Phoenix, AZ and drove to Billings, MT. It snowed pretty much all day and the back end of the truck slid a few times..On the highway (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t2.gif) But we made it home from the 2400 round trip safe.... Well the 240 has a little ice covering it! we had to chisel away at ice to even get the tie down straps loose!

You can also see the front bumper is also frozen to the trailer along with the whole underside of the car! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sorry to thread jack I just thought this went along with the bad weather.

That picture was taken at the gas station in West Yellowstone, MT. Yeah, my friend does not like the S15 front end. I think he is going to convert it back to USDM front end... FTW! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Got up this morning and the car seems ok visually except for a flat tire. Not sure if I drove it home like that or it happened over night.

That's good to hear. If having a flat tire is the worst that happened, Your pretty lucky.

Garrett, make sure you try to air the tire up and see if it holds.

a lot of time, when you go off the road sideways like that, the bead of the tire gets pushed in allowing some snow into it, which causes the tire to go flat as the air forces the water back out.

Its happened to my metro and to my buddies pickup, a lot of the times, its as simple as that.

at least you didnt have someone RUN you off the road that caused something like that. I had to go through a ditch up onto the opposite side of the road into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting someone the other day, made it fine, got back on the right side through the ditch as well going the same speed. when i got home and let it sit, the tire was flat, aired it up and its been fine ever since.

I think the trailord car look s just fine with that front end... too bad you couldnt get more wieght moved forward for rear traction... must be a good and light lil thing!

I hate diggin mud and gunk outta wheel beeds!

Up here the roads are pretty much always covered in snow and ice. everyone still drives 110-130 km/hr.. its all highway around here, no cities.. lol and winter seems to be about 5-6 months outta the year..

I should move down to that california place i keep hearing about around here!

Just another note, make sure ya clean all the ice and snow n stuff outta you're tires too, and your subframe. The tires make the car shake. and sometimes with stuff crammed into the subframe, it can make a ruckous that sounds like the tranny or engine is trying to bust its way through the firewall.. a decent car wash where they do the underside of the chassis is nice, or like me, a hot hose with the car on a hoist. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It eliminates that sudden gut wrenching feeling you get when you take off for the first time and everything just starts shuddering and the car trys splittin in three directions rattling across the road.

Takes awhile to trust it again after that sometimes...

I'd check your alignment and rims just in case. Its happened to me too.
