My brother and I decided we would try to wax my car yesterday. Our 510 buddy recommended this stuff called TR3

We did one coat on the car with a couple of clothes...it turned out really well...i think if we had used an orbital buffer it would have came out even better. I am most likely going to put another coat on next week before the golden gardens meet...maybe i can find a buffer by then...

yes using orbital/buffer would have made the application more effective.

I do not care for that TR3.

Its kinda hazy so I would have compounded/using Polishing compound.
wash, do it again and then applied 3M performance wax($18). silicone base wax that makes old paint look good..

^Agreed

Better results will come from a light-medium compound, and then a proper waxing. Agreed with the 3m compound and waxing. Will make it look better than you can believe

I thought the tr3 was a big improvement over the way it was...I will see if i can find some of that M3 though and an orbital buffer and see if i can get an even better result...thx guys!

I cant hate on it, even though its not as shiny as it could be, its not bad by any means.

the 3m part numbers you're looking for are
#39001
and
#39007

Those two have worked miracles for me. after those two you can use #39026 for a brilliant shine, but you'd be amazed after the imperial compound and hand glaze

I might make a run to napa tomorrow then if it is sunny...

thats decent stuff, id start off with a good clay treatment, then move to a compound, with a high speed buffer ~1800rpm with a foam pad, theeeeen wax.

that bitch will shine.

round 2

applied tr3 by hand with a round pad and removed with a orbital buffer...thinking i might do another coat later this week if it is nice out and then a coat of wax...but she is gettin shiny!

we use a 3m compound at work, ive yet to see the bottle it comes in though...

we do use gray 3m foam pads, so much win right there...

round 3...the buffer bonnet is toast and started to make things not buff out well so i finished it off with a towel.

thanks, i am hoping the wax will go over good...i am going to get some new bonnets for the buffer in a bit...i wish they had a more manly name though then buffer bonnets...

damn talk about an improvement! cant wait to see it after you use the meguiars

Jsvob03Mar 23, 2010, 8:56 pm · #16

I like to use Mothers cleaner wax. It makes the car look clean, but doesnt leave a bright finish, nor does it last very long.

then, i follow it with Meguiars NXT2 Tech Wax. HOLY effin shine!! if you put that stuff on alone, it makes the oxidation shine. put it on after a cleaner wax application, and you get a deep, dark finish. It's expensive, but VERY worth it!!

if you want to seal it up a bit, use meguiars quik shine spray. spray on, wipe off after waxing, and it acts as a sealant. i could go weeks between waxing, and not lose the shine (my newer car holds shine MUCH MUCH longer)

nonetheless, it feels good when you do something that makes a difference though. lookin good.

i dont remember which meguairs i got from my brother...but he uses it on his red ae86 which from the factory was a dull red with no clearcoat...or very little and his car looks amazing...so it should do good on the glaze...we will see thursday hopefully! I picked up a new bonnet pad thing for the buffer...so thats good.
