I have a contest idea I would like to run by you guys...keep in mind this is a rough idea so it could be done a number of different ways...also, if you guys wanted I could run the contest by myself...or the club could...or whatever, it kind of depends on what you guys want to do...but we can talk about that later...here is the rough idea of the contest.

When I first came up with this idea it was just going to be America's Next Top S12 Notch. (my brothers fiancee loves the model show...i ripped off the name...it can be changed...hah.) But I thought it would be cool to do a contest for the hatches at the same time...and then I thought how cool would it be to pit the top 3 notches against the top 3 hatches? So...the idea came to be this...there would be two threads...Americas Next Top Notch, and then America's Next Top Hatch. Submissions would be open for 2 weeks, and then 2 weeks of voting. The top 3 notches would face off against the top 3 hatches in a new thread...America's Next Top S12. The top notch and hatch would get a decal for their car saying they had won the contest for 2010 for the hatch or notch category and the runner ups would get runner up decals. The overall winner would get a decal saying they had won the whole thing...

Now this could be done with an American Contest...and then if we could get the Australians and the Europeans to put on their own contest we could put on a World Contest at the end. Or, we could do a worldwide contest and just call it Worlds Greatest S12 / Worlds Greatest S12 Notch / Worlds Greatest S12 Hatch

Thats the basic idea...but there would have to be some rules...

Submissions:
Submissions have to be in within the 2 weeks of the thread being opened. Submissions must be setup in the following format: Pictures, Modifications List, and Why Your Car is The Best Notch or Hatch.
Submissions can only be submitted by the owner of the car. The car can be running, or in the middle of a overhaul.

Voting:
Voting will be done by a normal poll thread, that will be closed at the end of the 2 weeks.

The club's participation....

Now, this can go a number of different ways...
1) I could run the event, and make the decals. This would be good for the moderators and the club as it would be less work for you guys besides the moderation of the contest threads. (I would be open to suggestions though on how you guys would like the event ran though) I would also make the decals for the contest winners.

2) I could run the event, but the club could sponsor it...meaning that you guys could send stuff to the contest winners, or someone could make special banners or avatars for the winner...or you could enter a couple of the winning cars in the calendar and put on their month that they won the contest, or where a runner up...or the overall winning car could be the car of the year...

3) The club could run the event itself, and give me credit for the idea. Honestly, if you guys liked the idea, i wouldnt mind you guys taking it off as your own project.

4) The idea sucks and we dont want you to do it...Ok, its cool. I tried.

(Let me know what you guys think, I am open to suggestions...and if we wanted we dont have to do the notches and hatches separate, but i like that idea.)

It's a good idea, but it's money for the win. Meaning Joe spent $5k on his sled vs Bob who spent $.9K. Whos gonna win?

Anyone could all win if they had the bank roll.

money cant buy you taste....

You could spend a lot on your car...but if someone else has built something that is different that people like more...that person is going to get the votes...simple.

JonBApr 30, 2010, 2:58 am · #5

So should we do a +/- for money spent on the points? Or just go for it?

It doesn't really matter to me, it's not my primary project car, and the prize is just a title. I'm just trying to keep my 200 alive here in the rust-belt, but I'll play.

I've kinda lost track of what most people's 200s look like anyway.

Dave B? The blue one with all the drift videos? I like that car.

Sure, what ever. like I said I don't really care how we do it. It was just a thought on trying to level the playing field some.

I did get into other project cars, If that costs me the best notch title--fair enough, there's next year. And I have like $500 in my motor. My paint is shot to--OK maybe the year after that

Yeah, my car is in need of a paint job. And the interior is in def need of tlc. I'm also missing the SE lip....

Yeah, I'm down. No major mods but whatever, still a straight body.

Well, on the prize thing, I dont think that would be worthwhile unless it costs a certain amount in donation to the club to enter your car to cover the cost, but then no one would enter.

I like the idea of the people voting just like "American Idol" and deciding overall, but then having us admins do our own commentary on each entry as well.  It'd be a lot of work for very little, but its an interesting concept overall and I can see it going further in the future.  But most likely not anytime soon.  I'd like to see Arro's input here about it personally, and I'm sure its coming eventually here lol.

You already have the poll set up.

it would be is Image 1, Image 2, Image 3, etc on a poll.

Not much work at all

Also, not much cash would be involved. As he could make the decals for the winners, If they so choose to have it and pay for the decal (I'm sorry, I would pay for something like that if I won)

The whole thing could be 100% Free on the actual CS-12 aspect. Heck, You could use the car for CS-12 promotional stuff

We need to do things that help pay the server cost, which is out of pocket cost, and since no one donates, it'd be a good way to help the club, even if its only a dollar or something, as well as rewarding the winner with official club-s12 stuff possibly (such as a calendar or an official club decal) in the end instead of a self made one. (not meaning negative towards sam, i know your a vinyl guy and can make em decently and mostly free most likely, just saying it would help us, in the event that we did it)

[On the subject of club gear, nearly all of the money made from that mainly goes towards paying for the product itself on our end]

make the winner pay a donation

VG33ERGazelle?Apr 30, 2010, 7:22 pm · #22

lol congrats you've won...now pay us.

sam31183May 1, 2010, 2:37 am · #23

I was thinking that I would make the decals myself...i need to buy some vinyl here soon for the autox club decals anyways and i will prolly have some left over...

The way I was going to set the poll up was that after everyone had submitted their car their name would be added to the poll...i dont remember if polls could be edited though...so there might have to be a submission thread, and a voting thread...and possibly a discussion thread.

If you guys possibly used runner up cars in the calendar with a special image tag on them in the calendar then you guys might be able to sell more calendars...possibly.

If we where to do the bone stripped down version of the contest i could pretty much run it all...but that means the control of it would be on me...and i am sure that the club itself would possibly want to have some control over the contest it self.

ArroMay 2, 2010, 12:55 am · #24

I don't think there would be a problem with you running it, but keep in mind we already have a "Car of the Year" two times running.

Which reminds me, I'm opening up submissions for 2011 THIS WEEKEND, see the Announcements section.

sam31183May 2, 2010, 6:16 am · #25

ok, when i get a chance I will work on the decals for the winners and runner ups...hopefully i can get something up and running then in like a week or two...if you guys have any suggestions or anything let me know...i am more than open to them!

whats going on with this contest

sam31183Jun 19, 2010, 6:12 pm · #27

I am going to be running the shop monday while the boss is away...i am going to be cutting the decals out then...they are all going to be reflective white as i have that in my possession. Sunday I am hoping to have drafted up some rules and have them agreed upon by the rest of the staff...i should be making an actual contest announcement shortly after those 2 things are finalized with pics of the decals, contest rules, and other useful information. After the announcement is made, everyone has a buffer week before submissions are open. Submissions will be open for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks are up voting will start for another 2 weeks...after the notch and hatch victors/runner ups are announced there will be a buffer week to re submit submissions so everyone can revamp their submissions if they think it will give them a better chance, after the week is over submissions will open for the over all vehicle winners. Submissions will be open for 1 week this time, and voting will only be open for 1 week.
