Hey, did anyone see the s12 on the latest Speedhunters blog?
http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/08/16...part-three.aspx
Bottom quarter of the page between the Holden and an older Lotus Esprit. Great post, in my opinion. There isnt a bad car in that entire line up.
For Those That Experience Winter
Draconis's car.....man thats things everywhere.....as it should be lol
its kinda odd that they inlcuded the s12 and the FB but not the 86 corolla... lol oh well IN YO FACE TOYOTA!
I don't think that's much of an issue after all the 8/6 day coverage that just passed, hahah.
I submitted my car...but it looks like i didnt make the cut....bloody hell.

No one likes the coupes.
are your s12's daily drivers and you use em all year round? or do you park your s12's over the lovely winter months?
I plan to park mine. It's a New Jersey car but looks like it's only seen a couple of winters. You could practically eat off the floor pan but there is a tiny bit of rust bubbling up in a few spots. I'm going to take care of that and only bring it out in the warmer months. 25 years of being practically rust-free is pretty good and hopefully I can make the car last.
My new winter car is another galant vr4 - 4 doors and awd is superior to 2 doors and rwd for winter daily driving imo. She's already rusty so I'm tearing the whole thing down and por 15ing every square inch so she'll last a while.
wtf is winter? All I get down here is a really pissed off/long fall season...
When I had my SE hatch, it was a DD... But VGs take a beating and ask for more. I just had to dig around where I parked it a few times after we had 4+ feet of snow this last winter... I couldn't get up the hill until a plow scraped all the way to pavement.

LOL.....Yes what is this winter you speak of! we get a month of really bad wind but thats about it...
All year round!
I daily mine all year. I need to get some new rear tires before winter hits but ima be poooooooor so that MIGHT not happen.
XanoI daily mine all year. I need to get some new rear tires before winter hits but ima be poooooooor so that MIGHT not happen.
I used to use mine year round. for one winter
It worked fantastic. Just throw some blizzacks on the rear and all season tires on the front
However, if your suspension is modified to be lower. I wouldn't recommend it, Mine almost killed me and 2 other drivers in a dusting of snow. Never again.
WEEELLLL... Maybe I'll try it again
Im thinking with this lovely adjustable suspension now....to just raise it a bunch and throw some winters on and have some winter fun!
but I dunno....winter = harsh on cars lol.....plus a nice chance of schmucking into shit
i drove mine in the snow ONCE. only once. i had summer tires on the car, the suspension had some money in it. needless to say, it didnt go ANYWHERE. i was two hours late to my final exam because after driving for 20 minutes and getting like 5 miles, i decided it was a better idea to go home and wait for a ride, lol. and no, it wasnt my driving skills (causing i was drifting everywere i could, lol), it was the fact that i would let the clutch out in first gear, and just spin.
I drive every winter.
The only real problem is that salt is a super electrolite, and crap rusts like mad.
We had a blizzard this past year; Like 30+ of snowfall in a day or so. I drove every day in it.
I was one of the few vehicals on the road. People were walking on the roads because the sidwalks were to deep and they couldn't move their cars, and I live on a hill.
I was armed with directional tires in the back(yes summer ones), 80lb of sand in the trunk, a full gas tank(about 80-90lb of gas), and a posi. I never got stuck for more than a few minutes; on places were if one got out of the car, they would be using the car to help stop them from slipping and falling. It's almost unatural the way the my 200 could find traction where there was none(iced over brick road on a hills).
That was the worst mother nature could dish out around here. I always say, if it snows bad, I'll buy winter tires and throw, another two more 80lb bags of sand in the trunk(full 320 lb of traction weight).
I can throw more weight in my trunk than most fwds have, I have as many tires spinning as most 4x4s, and my car is lighter over-all than most.
My 200 kicks ass in the snow! And I haven't even bought Blizacs yet.
People always tell me they won't drive a rwd because a fwd is better in the snow; I drove my rwd around many a stuck fwd this past year. What are they to do?; strap their sand bags to the hood? LOL!
Jay, remember i dont use winter tires, i ran with normal cheapo all seasons last winter. Ill be doing the same, or possibly light truck mud terrain tires.
And also remember, i have taller springs and shocks on the back. lol.
I never tried to do the whole Blizzak thing, how much do those puppies run for?
I never thought winter tires would be much better then normal all-season......but a couple winters ago I got some winters for my mx3 and man....its an insane difference....I think some winters on a s12 would be fuckin fun!
Yeah... I never have to worry about this. If there is so much as the threat of ice, the whole world comes to a stop and everything closes. The tiny bit of ice and snow we do get is easily navigated if you have the slightest understanding of how to drive. My dad taught me how to do it and I just laugh to myself as I'm driving down the road and pass dozens of trucks and cars that have slid off the road or into guard rails.
yah I cant wait for this
Winter? What's that like rain? Jp! When iwent back to ohio Fuck I got the true meaning of winter for real. That road salt is no joke either
Holy shit kusta u better leave the white girl (hatch) at home!
If someone finally buys my god damn mx-3 I will be getting a winter car....but that mx3 is a POS in winter.....so....if I still have it by then I think Ill get the s12 in 4x4 mode and rock it through the winter haha
sideways_s12LOL.....Yes what is this winter you speak of! we get a month of really bad wind but thats about it...
Lol its was fuckin 97 today
In light snow thaat could make for some fun huh kusta?
They don't really use salt in Canada and most of the very northern states, they just use sand for traction. The few places that do are more urban.

No shit really? Sand seems alot better. I guess the us just wants to fuck your car up then u gotta buy another one once it rusts out
Well even sand has small amounts of rock salt in it, so you do need to wash the car off every few trips out in it all... But it's not as bad as people seem to think it is.
Salt causes alot more problems with icing then people know about, especially when it gets below 20 degrees.
well gettin my diff welded here pretty soon right before winter.... wonder how this will go?
some cities still use salt from what I know......calgary went off it a couple years ago but man I swear the amount of residue on the roads sometimes makes me wonder if they still use it lol
Winter is fucking awesome! It was the most potential my ca20 has ever shown; when it felt like starting!!
If you already drive a cali-car or a rust free bucket... the choice to avoid salt is yours.
I personally fucking LOVE winter... nobody gives a fuck if you're sliding sideways anywhere because, "it's snowy and the light rear end of your car slides."
Winter is THE TIME to get as rowdy as you please on most roads without any extra attention.
ice... that is our worst enemy lol we get soggy snow and lots of ice storms!
i had gone to take my final exam and i was one of the few that went on the actual day to test and there was a huge ice covered parking lot and the maintenance guys were sitting in their little golf cart watching me slide around on the ice lol

That's why I chose to say lowered
What would have been better to say is a stiffer, less giving, AND lower suspension.
Blizzacks ALL THE WAY! Kusta is not joking when he says that... Those puppies can be near bald and they still grip better than a full all-season. the compound they use is soooo sooooft (And make very good smokey burnouts too) that it just grips the snow like no other man...
Ohio? Yeah, they get it a bit. Lake effect snow does take it's toll there, but we get slammed up here (Kusta will have it way worse than us too).
I wanna take the s12 out as is....once theres a tiny bit of snow....have some fun.....then park it......and sell my mx3 and get an old AWD subbie for a fun winter car lol

I took mine out on a super cold dusting (you know, the 15 degree F super small and fine particulate style cold snow). Was a literal dusting.... I could hardly control it...
I'm not saying don't do it (I probably will too), but be forewarned. With your new suspension. everything will be very very different
Buy an AWD E30 for winter. You'll love it for lifez
Edit: Here ya go! Needs work
I had to
Ive been goofing off in any vehicle I drive in winter.....rwd/awd/fwd....Ive fucked around in everything. When winter is 7months long....you kinda have to. Ive yet to have the s12 out in the snow anyways....haha had it almost 3 years and I have never snow drifted the mofugga!

Read my ninja edits above!
I snow drifted mine on the 20e, That is the only place I will ever say the motor was perfect for the job, not too much power, not to little. 2nd and 3rd gear snow drifting was easy as pie with that thing on the blizzacks.
Awesome fun
i park mine, more so cause i break it most of the time, but i have no desire to drive my car in teh winter
I wish I had a heated garage so I didnt have to wait till spring/warmth to work on the car....then when it is nice enough BOOM its ready to play right away
my garage is not heated either, so that makes things hella gay
a garage period would be nice lol
My girl gets the garage I drive my S12 during winter, but it sits high at the moment and does' not have posi. That and the lack of power really makes it easy to drive. I plan on parking it with a cover in the winter of 2011 as I plan on buying a CUBE next summer. It will be my daily/winter car. I think Japan and other countries use sand as well. It is better than salt, although it can chip paint. I also hate that it is on the roads well into spring before it goes away.
"Posi"?
LOL, it's not a posi.
Dave"Posi"?
LOL, it's not a posi.
And your not eating Jello.
One wheel wonder peel = no posi-trac.
Of course your car doesn't have a factory Chevrolet limited slip differential.
Haha sweet, I recognise Spencer's blue Crown wagon too
