Earlier this month, my younger brother(16 yrs old) gave me the task of heklping him find his first car. Knowing a thing or maybe two about cars, I started frequenting the car ads on craig's list. Two weeks ago I ran across an 87 200sx for $800. There was very little info on the advertisment, and one small and very grainy photo. I almost dismissed it as probably not worth looking at. I decided to call the guy and ask a few questions about it. It turned out that it runs and drives. It had 218k on the origional vg30 and it smokes a very little. Since there really wasn't many used cars that we liked out there, we added it on out list of cars we'd check out. The first thing we noticed was how much the crappy photo on craigs list made it look good compared to what it looks like in person. It got worse once we took a gander inside. This car was thrashed and trashed. But, since we were already there, we might as well drive it. Besides a horrible front end alignment and a disintigrated rear subframe bushing, the drive went really well. We wound up leaving it there, but we went back yesterday and picked it up. The guy wound up settling for $700.
The first thing we did was rip out the entire interior. It was dirty and smelled really bad. The only thing in there now is the dash. We have to run the shop-vac through there once more and hose it down before we start to put new carpet in. We took apart ther rear seats apart and put the covers in the wash. We somewhat cleaned the seat foam and now we're trying to seal in the rest of the stink. Tomorrow the metal seatback frames will painted with some rustoleum before everything is reassembled and put back in.
We will take some pictures and post them later. I have been reading a lot of the pinned topics and gathering up some s12 knowledge. Also, I am custom fabricator, so I will probabley bring some of my own knowledge and parts to the s12 community. Fist I must fix things on my brothers car. I'll get him to regiter and read up on lots of the good information here. It's about time that he learns how to get around a car forum.

My Brothers First Car
Welcome!
+1 for pics and +1 for future parts production.
Where are you guys from? Se's are where its at. I has 2!
We're in the Tampa Bay area. We have to do a lot of matiance before my brother funds parts development. He wants to autocross and rallycross like me, so we'll probabley make new lower control arms up front using different spindles. That way we can upgrade the brakes and make some custom 46mm coilovers. I might even be able to improve the geomerty a little bit.
hey everyone, im Goumba's younger brother. we still haven't taken any pictures but we plan to soon.
welcome to both of you have fun with the se it's a rare one be good to her and she will be good to you in return. I believe theres a se here with upwards of 300k on the odo...
Welcome I owned a SE at one point. Very fun car. Take care of her do post pics!
I wish my brother was cool but all he does is drink beer and drive around in his 1980 ford pickup.
Welcome!
To both of you, I hope to meet you next year when im in Seminole. I hung out with Grant from North Port earlier this year when i went down there. Generally just kinda cruised, stopped for some Cuban sandwiches at a little shop in Treasure Island, yada yada.
My mother lives in that area, so I usually try to make it there at least once a year.
Let us know when your in the area. My brother's car should be shiny by then. Snawiches and cars seems like a good time.
Hellz ya, more florida people! Lol. Not too many members down here but nice to see some pop up. Xano is a very chill guy to hang with. Had a good time. I'll have to let you guys know next time i swing up there. I generally hit the tampa area for parts i can't find down here. Dunno how far south you two have travelled but north port is a growing county just south of sarasota and venice.
Anyways, welcome to the club. I think you picked up the same car my roommate was eyeballing. He wouldn't have done much with it anyways. Actually, i would have ended up workingon it more than he would have.
I had a buddy that used to live in north port. I used to visit him to test out new setups on my rally car. There's lots of good roads that are away from peoples homes down there. I hope that they don't go and put houses up in my super secret stage rally test areas. I wouldn't know where else to go.
How do you add pictures to a post on here? Is it just like vboard? I took a few pictures so that I can finally show off the car a little.
Also, why did my avatar photo get huge?
Fixed your avatar, we generally have you upload files to photobucket or some similar photo hosting website, then use the provided BBCode line from that provider.

We already started fixing a lot of the bad. Maybe we should have taken some pictures before we started doing body work and stripping the interior.
doesn't look to bad from what I can see
Looking good. I think i know where that place you are taking about. Somewhere past I-75. A buddy took me out to some curvies out that way, nobody around. Looking at the area on google maps, its very isolated.
lookin good, i mean, for where its at -
you planning on keeping the rubstrip off? Id like to see how that looks when your done
The test spot is east of 75 off of exit 179. There's a glimpse of me on you tube if you do a search for "svt rally car." My brother decided not to reuse the rub strip. We're going to try to make the bumper covers look like there is no longer a rub strip on them when all the body work is done.
After many hours of body filler and sanding, the car is starting to come together.

car looks as solid as an 84 s12 rear end. and +1 for the SE mudflaps
Looking good consider starting a build thread for the car Smiley
I was thinking about a build thread. I'll probabley get the car looking a lot more together and take some new pictures. I'll use those pics to start a new thread.
