If you want a super stiff non functional huber low hellaflush car, it's a matter of choice,

And if some suspension genius give me the excuse of lowering the gravity center.. just get wider tire and rip off your huber cool electric sunroof.. now THAT would lower the gravity center of your ride and keep your suspension functionnal.

the Hellaflush cancer is one of the few things I can hardly understand in life.

They are cool for different reasons. The Golf is cool because it looks good. Do you think he is going out and actually tracking it; probbaly not. He probably made it look that way to have a cool looking DD. The BMW has tons of hours into it making it have the best handling set up for racing.
DjayS12Oct 12, 2010, 10:53 pm · #7

That golf could get stuck on a pothole and there is no way this can go over a speedbump.. which is why this is stupid.. unless you do a total show car that you carry on a trailer.. but if you have the money to do this.. why a golf?

And my major point is why would you make something non functional to make it looks good? It make as much sense to me than having a shifter ball at head height or a huge banner in the windshield that ruin the visibility.

This is what I think is the equivalent of hellaflush in clothes fashion:

ArroOct 13, 2010, 2:01 am · #19

LOL some of you are drama queens (hiya, Andrew2 lol), I don't hate Henry. He's a cool guy, and a pretty good photographer. I just think his car is like Madonna... it went from good, to HOT, to "whoa, that's a bit much for my tastes", to "why did he do that?". Do I hate on his car? Yep sometimes I do. I don't like the current stance.

But chrissakes, I have nothing against the man. Just the machine.

And yeah, I've had the same anti-hellaflush quote in my sig now for almost a year now. I just think it looks lame and is bad for your car. But yeah, like Lee said, it's your car. Do what you want. If you wanna run hellaflush, or with some purple metal flake paint and some 14" daytons w/ spinners, or go redneck and put a truck-style lift on it, it's your choice. If some of us laugh at you for doing it, it's our choice. And if it's bad for performance, it's fashion at the expense of function (there is the factual part of my thoughts).

sideways_s12 on 01:58:41 AM / 13-Oct-10well i guess i'll be the only one that likes my notch when I get it because I will be slammin the living shit out of it in an attempt to make it sortaflush lol

Not sure what the means.....

ArroOct 13, 2010, 2:44 am · #27

Flashy is one thing, but you can be flashy and still functional.

And Alex, I only know Henry's specs, but he runs 205's in the back with 10" wheels. You can run 205's without crazy-stretching them across a 10-inch span.

My shit is flush on the Silvia, with barely enough room for a pinky finger under the fender lip, but I have 225's on 16's with good offset and yet I don't run stupid-whacked camber. So despite the limitations of the S12 rear suspension, I don't have it so far outta whack that I ruin my suspension travel.

posted image

posted image

As it is, it's still too much camber for performance reasons, but it's a hell of a lot better than the cars pictured above.

To me, "flush" is good enough, and "hellaflush" is just sacrificing performance for fashion.

As it is, I think my blue S12 is too low and thus has too much neg. camber. I plan to raise it up more and run bigger wheels and more tire.

DraconisOct 13, 2010, 2:49 am · #28

Arro, not to be too picky, but could you post a profile picture of your car?  From what I remember, your fitment isnt really flush to start with.  There is a bit too much room between the fender and the wheel.  I have just adjusted the height of my rear and fixed my camber in the rear so now it is flush.  Pics will be available soon.  The fronts are a bit too high to be flush imo, but a whole new suspension setup is on its way.  And yes, plenty of cars out there can be tracked while being 'HellaFlush'.  I have seen it and such.  It depends on the setup on the car and the chosen type of racing.  I personally wont go any lower than where I am sitting now.  It is good enough to look good while still staying functional.

And I still dont get why there is a continuation of this topic.  Seems that it is beat to death and every time Henry is brought up.  More of a beaten record to me.

I too will join the fraternity of over-lowered cars.. I've got two sets of springs for my stance coilovers, but currently no front sway bar. I need some way of reducing body roll, and you can couple that with the fact that drifting is a fairly... in-elegant form of racing.. I've rocked a set of 18's in the past, but they were far too baller for my car.

That article re: suspension setups and the idiocy of hella flush has some very good points.. But does it properly weigh that perhaps people just like to have their cars look a certain way? Not everyone is trying to build a race car.

i could care less my notch is gonna tuck tire i could care less about the coolness factor. i like it personally its my car and fuck what people say good or bad i dont fuckin car its my car ill do as i wish. its handles superb and ill still rock circuit and touge no prob. my car is both function and form. im NOT SAYING HELLA FLUSH, BUT PROPER FITMENT IS HERE TO STAY LIKE IT OR NOT. no one wants to see sunk in wheels with 3+inches of wheel gap at least i dont but thats my opinion.

yuta's z is chill i like the rat rod/ mitsubishi zero fighter plane look personally the car and him compliment eachother and me saying that only a few can appreciate that

arro ruin suspension travel um thats what chopping strut tubes and running a shorter shock are for. my cars low and im not sacraficing any travel at all. andrews car is the same setup with more weight up front and we've bombed canyons and all kinds of shit both cars are top notch during spirited drives. and -4.5 degrees of camber is just something we'll live with (it comes with the nature of the game). both cars setup to drive like butter, super comfortable when cruising but when it comes to a spirited drive or track event suspension is solid enough to make the car handle superb no roll minimal if any squat. ill be running heavier springs and lowering my car another 1/4-1/2in...... and your rs-x too much camber for perormance i dont think so. personally its not my car but id rock a 225/40 or 45 and lower that rsx a bit but thats just me.

i track my car and its low and functional
hung tracks his car and its low and functional
henry drifts his car and its fuckin slammed and functional

were all irs and suffer with the same camber issues but has it stopped us? limited our ability to track the cars? hampered performance? i think not

so whats the problem seems like these cars are serving their purpouses.

oh and have any of you thought about this.... most of the ppl who rock hellaflush guys could probably give a fuck about what anyone thinks. if they want form over function fuck it more power to them. their car and your car may serve two entirely different roles. show car////track car////daily its all different shit so think about it. do u honestly think someone would track a bagged q45 on 19X10's pfft its purpose is to look good and be baller and if it succeeds doing it, im all for it! more power to them

You all say this and that yet you like my car? David b's car is slammed and is herrafrush. Do you like rat rods? Hellaflush isn't my choice of grammer it just is what it is.

The point im trying to make is if done correctly, if anything in the book is done with a good attention to detail, it most likley will look good.

Strongly agreed, fanbois do get very annoying with their ignorance and "hey bro you should go lower bro". Boils my sh*t

Not all my cars have been slammed and for looks.

This is my old teg... In the offseason it was a herrafrush car and during season it was a full on autocross machine. Yes I have my tricks to scrub times, I know how suspension works.

ArroOct 13, 2010, 4:48 am · #43

Dennis, David B has an SRA car like yours and it's functionally low.

Justen, no offense but your car isn't set up properly for a track. You have too much negative camber, and chopping shit shorter doesn't change the suspension geometry. Road racing and drift are different,  but pro drift cars have proper suspension setups, too, and if they were running an S12, they'd just fab/convert to S13 and be done with it, and not dick with the stupid semi-trailing setup.

The only person posting in this thread who has proper negative camber for handling purposes is Dennis and that's in the front Wink

sam31183Oct 13, 2010, 5:07 am · #44

did you guys even read the article and try to understand the points that where made? Or just take personal offense to it? Or just take your normal anti flush stand points? I see arro has pointed out a thing or two from the article...while also taking his normal anti flush stance...while others seem to have whined and bickered like normal...which is what i was expecting to happen honestly.

Here is my stand point on it...if your slammed your slammed. Dont try to say your car can handle...you lost your handling for style. Everyone tells me my shit is too high...but the truth of the matter is my car is perfect for what i am doing with it. I have neg camber in the back....but i am at 3.5...which sounds like quite a bit...but its not huge. The car still handles well in the back...and isnt super high at the same time so my suspension travel in the back is still ok. Our fronts are mcpherson strut design...and if you read the article you would have noticed that you dont want to lower the front to much because it messes up the geometry three ways past sunday. The front of my car is low...but still has good travel and i am not bouncing off the bump stops all the time.

For those of you who dont know...the guy who wrote the article was mike kojima who used to work for sport compact car. He now works tuning dai's s13 formula d car. He has prolly forgotten more about suspension then most of us now about it.

RB25sx - SLPROct 13, 2010, 5:17 am · #45

I get the impression that the catch all defense of "I prefer smaller rims" or "Stock ride height is fine" is becoming more of an excuse for people who have an effectively stock car yet want to make it seem like they have spent countless hours pondering and tweaking it's inner workings. Well, perhaps the truth is that you haven't been tuning/tweaking it and that it is effectively bone stock. If this is the case there are two things you should know 1) Who the fuck cares what you do to your car? 2) Stop pretending your car is something that it is not.

Factory spec is an excellent starting point, but can be improved upon. If your goal is to have a mint 'stock spec' s12 I have nothing but respect for you, but please do not hate on people who choose to lower/slam/hella flush/mismatch wheel their cars.. That is just a sure sign of ignorance.

To summarize: Please do not mislabel bone stock cars (in appearance or function) as 'properly tuned' cars and all others as miscreants of the hobby as fools.

B. doesn't do shit
