I actually came here a while ago, and picked up a CA20E from kyskater, but ended up dropping off the face of the planet after life took over(bleh). I still have the CA and still plan on doing the build, but I would like to find the right 200sx first. I ended up finding a 73 Datsun 240z for an AMAZING deal, and couldn't pass it up. So as of now I'm rocking the sweet sweet sound of a 4 speed L24 dual carb classic. w00t!

A 73 240z is more bad ass in my opinion than an s12 anyway haha. From what I understand 73 is the best year for the 240z as well because it came with a few extra little things like intermittent wipers. The only big downside seemed to be that the 73's got the crappy carbs. But yeah you should definitely try and get some pics up when you get a chance.
haha, I love the datsun, but I can't help myself. I really want an S12, REALLY bad. I've got two jobs right now, so hopefully once I've got the proper funds set aside I can get started building the CA20E(I know, but I wanna be different Tongue) and find a good S12. I really would like to find a clean notch, mainly because I think the hatches are over done(not always a bad thing), and I LOVE the notchbacks, lol

At first I was not super fond of the notch but it has grown on me a lot over the years. I kinda wish I would have ended up with a notch instead of my 85 hatch but I guess that is just how things work out.
While the ca20e seems to do a decent job of being fuel efficient and somewhat reliable it is not in any way a performance engine. It has poor head flow and a fragile stock bottom end. And even if you ported out the heads and upgraded the bottom end, which is a lot of time and potentially money, it still would have pretty sad head air flow compared to the more modern Nissan 16 valve 4 cylinders. If you really want to be different I still haven't seen a completed vh45de swapped s12 yet. fj20 s12's in the states are also very rare. Why be different with a sub par economy engine when you can do it with a real engine? That is just my opinion anyway.
Also, you 240z overall looks to be in really good shape for its age. Honestly I was expecting something a little rougher based on your description of getting such a good deal on it haha. Looks like a really good find.

Cool.
^Agree with above sentiments about the Ca20e. Do something neat.
Hey guys I'm semi new to this site. My brother recently gave me his 87 ca20e 200sx notchback. Once i got the car running i soon realized just how weak this motor is. So i plan on doing the cheapest engine swap possible as i am 17 and just started my job at kroger lol. I'd appreciate any info you guys have on what upgrades i should do to my s12 in the mean time till i can afford the swap, or any info on the swap. Such as lowering springs, exhaust, wheels, radio (doesn't have one), weld diff or not? (this will be a drift car/ Daily driver). Also i really need to find a pulley for my power steering pump that is v shaped instead or ribbed. Thanks for any help and ill post some pictures once i figure out how to...
The cheapest decent engine swap is without a doubt a ka24e/de. Welding the diff is fine as long as your prepared to sacrifice a bit of comfort for daily driving. Doing suspension on a budget usually turns out bad especially if you plan on actually using it for motor sports and not just hard parking it. On a tight budget I don't think you will be able to afford both the suspension and engine upgrade at the same time so you'll probably have to pick one for now.
You can go to www.photobucket.com to upload pictures and post them here. You have to make and account but it just takes a second. After you have uploaded your pictures just copy and paste the [IMG] tags into the thread and the pictures will display automatically.
Welcome to cs12.
yeah im set on finding a ka24de. and i'll probably weld m diff up soon just because its a cheap thing to do. a good suspension just may have to mait till i can convert to s13 coil overs. but for now i guess ill get some cheap lowering springs. i would never cut them lol. I'll go set up an account i know you guy like some photos, cars pretty clean i just have to paint the bumpers and it has some quarter panel damage.

she doesnt look half bad
(and btw, half the forum wont have any idea wtf Kroger is. Depressingly, where I live at the moment doesn't have one, but where i grew up did.)
hallo
i think you must to start your project to barter engine
?a18et or
ca18det
I do not think they're too expensive. Of these, you can survive power. The problem is only with the turbo but it's easily corrected.
You have a European car?
European rear axle is the maximum speed, and the Japanese rear axle is a quick start
my 2 cents a dd/drift car is really hard to have. A welded diff makes you go thew tires like crazy. I had a s14 that i dd/drifted and in the 2 months i had the car i ran thew 12 set of tires and never went to the track lol but I get free used tires. Its fun to have one but it will just make you want to get sideways all the time and every chance you get and it will hurt your pocket really bad if you do it to much. Me and my drifter friends the ones who only drift there cars at the track only gives a stock ka24de 4 to 5 events before you start to have a ring go bad of something like that but we have events once a month and we get a lot of seat time so that maybe the reason why. I don't know but you have a nice car my s12 coupe was my first car also when i got mine i had to swap the motor it was only running barely. It's been the most reliable car I've owned that I'm not having to pay on for 5 years lol. Good luck with the build and don't go cheap on the suspension you will hate yourself when you have the car sideways and it hard to controll and your beating yourself to death

i cant tell if your asking me if i have a ca18 or not but no i dont. i wish i did. I'm going to swap it with a ka24de which i guessing would cheaper than a ca18det im guessing.
and im not sure i understand what your asking me about the rear end. are you asking me where it was manufactured?

WOW 12 sets in 2 months??? hahaha i cant even afford 1 set. hmm i may wait to weld my diff. My brother (previous owner, current owner of that evo8) told me there is a rear end off a infinity i could use but im not sure..
i will probably do the engine swap first, ha whats the point of having great suspension in a car that has no power haha

NO KROGERS?!!!?1 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA??????????
lol its really a midwest and southern state chain. Where I live now, we just have Hy-Vee stores. I grew up about 3 hours away from where i'm at now, and we had kroger's there and no Hy-Vee
I know Kroger grinwink. Clean MKII Notch. If you want springs, source some Canuck on ebay. Drifting is actually expensive. I don't know of very many engines that can last a long time in factory form. It's much easier to build it before hand. My brother beat the hell out of his S14 KA24DE, so they are tough. The S12 is light, but for drifting, a KAT would be much more fun and easier to use. A KA24DE can do the job, but you'll have to run it a lot harder. CA, SR, KA - all are getting old, so a "freshen up" or rebuild would be wise, though pricey. There is really no good argument for suspension vs. power. You will need both in the end. Power won't do you much in the twisties if your car is swaying back and forth like a Dodge Ram. You can drift with little power and good suspension (AE86) ,again just more challenging. Best of luck & Welcome!
#1 - Swap to KA24DE
#2 - put on suspension items
#3 - Have fun!
#4 - Save for KA-T
#5 - Have a $hit ton of fun devilsidesmile
Welcome! I love both Hatch and Notch. MKI and MKII. Strange to like one but not the other tongue2 As stated, the CA20E is an economy engine and nothing else. Being different is great, but it is also a PAIN. It literally pays to be different. Keep that in mind. I wanted to put a RB20DE or RB25DE in my old notch. Still plenty of power in NA form to get down the road, and it's different. The throttle response on an NA Inline 6 is great. Just don't want to see someone put thousands of dollars into a engine that will ultimately fail.

Thankyou that really helps a lot. yeah i saw those springs on ebay and im gonna buy them when in a month or 2. and when i do the swap im definitely going to freshen up the engine while its out of the car. that would seem like a huge waste. i've been looking at the build threads on here and it doesnt seem incredibly hard
