airs next sunday on the history channel. It was going to be on nbc a year ago but because the knight rider remake tanked they backed out from making the american version of the highest rated tv program of all time. NBC did film one pilot for the show that never aired. NBC's top gear cast included adam corrolla, tanner foust, and some rich guy i had never heard of before. History channels top gear has tanner foust and two other guys i have never heard of before.

Now that I have done a re cap....what do you guys think? Obviously the american version will never be as good as the british version....only british show to ever transfer over to america and be better was the office. I kind of dont think tanner foust will transfer over well for some reason....the british top gear hosts are just kind of normal car guys with no real racing background who happen to be funny. I kind of thought that adam corolla was a good fit because he is kind of that guy. I am going to watch the show either way, and i am kind of a tanner foust fan regardless....but i think that he keeps getting put into these car shows that just flop. I guess the biggest question right now tho is; will the writing be as good?

Sounds epic to me.

British top gear
All regular "Blokes" as they would say
Jezza = elitist, opinionated, rough, tall man that has an engineering degree (no joke)
Hamster = charming, well spoken, handsome short man that has some sort of BA
May = Is May...... Enough said.

This is the reason why top gear does so well. They clash in nearly every sense of the word to make a brilliant chemistry between them. It's fantastic. The american version has too many people that are into to field to make it funny/good/anything worth watching. Honestly they would have been better off picking 3 people up off of the street for their hosts. Tanner knows too much, The speed channel guy knows too much, and I don't remember the other one. The British top gear guys all know what they are doing, and how to fix the cars, and how to actually not care so much, I have a feeling everyone will be to projecting and somewhat skittish on the american show. I'll watch it anyways, but I have a feeling that it will have the same place in my heart as fifth gear. Rubbish

They know TOO MUCH about cars? Really?....

My main beef with this show is that American cars tend to suck...  So I hope they keep it global in their selection of cars to profile.

It's Adam Ferrera, Not corolla who's presenting. Corolla WAS on the pilot

They're terrible cars. On my personal scale of things worth driving they're right above a camaro, and right below a brick. I shit you not when I say I had my friend let me drive his, I drove it for 5 miles. got out, threw him the keys, and walked home. (Which, being me, ended up being someone picking me up)

+1. As Maxpow stated some of the Corvettes are decent but the c4 gets absolutely no love from me.

And yes I wouldn't hold high hopes for american top gear. It might be ok at best but I doubt it will be any better than that.

I think we all like (even love) one of the ugliest cars out there lol, so uhhhhhh yeah....we shouldnt judge what others like in cars ;)

American top gear= fail I'm sorry

celestialsilviaNov 16, 2010, 10:48 am · #19

+1, absolutely. .

why is an american version even necessary? what they think americans cant understand a british accent? oh, yea; $$$ = thats why. A cheap cash-in on the original, funny show, hosted by guys with all the personality of wet bricks. I predict a truly awful mix of awkwardness + trying too hard + US "reality" TV format = ?

that being said, i hope im wrong. ya never know
