Bought this car locally off craigslist.  Needed a clutch and some TLC.  Snatched it up for $600 + $110 for the clutch kit.  BIG thx to Jeremy A for his help on the reinstall of the clutch.  This is a stout ca20.  i mean seriously it has way more power than my old one that was originally in the silver car.  idk why yet but next time somebody says "my ca20 is fast" dont be so quick to dismiss them.  def over 100whp here.  thats pretty good for an engine that usually dynos for about 70whp or less lmao

So the plan is to swap over my suspension and beat on it.  Should be fun

RedneckFeb 10, 2011, 2:25 am · #2

So what is happening to the SRA hatch? You drove all the way to Cali just to get it because it was a SRA haha.

JayFeb 10, 2011, 7:50 am · #3

That car has more grand plans.
This one's just a notch "In the meantime" I"m guessing.

I know that's what I would do/Currently doing.

I'm still gonna say KA swap it though
Because I'm me :D

sideways_s12Feb 10, 2011, 9:58 am · #4

The white hatch currently has a new owner unfotunetly its not me lol he should be posting up saying he got it but who knows...lol

sam31183Feb 10, 2011, 7:21 pm · #5

i told him in the other thread jay to ka swap it and iggy and sideways both said they didnt like the ka...eh, to each his own. I think this notch will be fun with ca20 power and lots of suspension....should go do some road racing just for fun....not having to lift is a blast!

IggyEGuanaFeb 11, 2011, 9:48 am · #6

haha yes sam gets it
the white hatch was sold to Jeremy A.  its a great car but its too clean and too optioned for me.  it kinda hurts to think about takin that rare car with all those great 80s doodads and ripping them all out and then grazing walls with it.  its much better in the hands of an owner who will appreciate it for who it is.

and ya no KA for me.  Jason and I overhualed a S14 dohc all stock.  not a fan of how they designed that engine.  I will quote a member of NICO: "r34 gtr wrote:
Yeah, Im kinda reluctant to call the CA an underdog. Sure its smaller, but its like a swiss watch compared to the buzzy garbage that is my 98 DOHC KA."

this notch will most likely be getting ca18det power. but ONLY after the ca20e dies.  might last forever...

sideways_s12Feb 11, 2011, 5:06 pm · #7

I think the only way you'll kill that thing is if you throw nitrous at it hahahahaha my notch ca ran forever and i beat the living shit out of that motor even on 3 cyls hahaha

sam31183Feb 11, 2011, 6:54 pm · #8

I love my ka...but, there is a thing or two about it that scares me...mostly the timing chain...but, i have seen worse. Most of the engine is straight forward....but, the s14 kas got more electronics and what not...which kind of scare me because i like the keep it simple stupid method...but, i mean, stuff like obd2 has its benefits also....you take the good, you take the bad...you know? But like...I love the vg...but it can be a pain in the ass to work on too...especially changing the plugs and what not...but 4 cylinders are easier to work on than 6...

silvia loveFeb 11, 2011, 7:08 pm · #9

so what happen to the vh iggy?

welcome back to the irs club, lol.

sam31183Feb 11, 2011, 7:14 pm · #10

my ca20 ran so lovely in my notch and never failed me until one day it mysteriously kept randomly sputtering.

i'm bringing my KA-DE with me to Vegas so you'll love to hate my notch.  :cry2:

RedneckFeb 12, 2011, 4:15 am · #13

One minute it is a vh45 going into a sra hatch. The next minute it is an irs notch with no swap plans unless the great running ca20 dies. I am feeling kinda gyped right now.

sideways_s12Feb 12, 2011, 7:26 am · #14

Hahaha he's still gonna do the vh in a sra hatch. But that's later....

NOOOOOO i wanted to be the only notch lmao haha
woot more s12's
IggyEGuanaFeb 12, 2011, 2:38 pm · #16

lmao guys

ya the serious track car is still gonna be a SRA'd hatch with a VH45DE

last night we got the new clutch master off the red shell and onto the notch.  also replaced the clutch slave and deleted the clutch dampener as well as installed my Earls SS clutch line.  thx to jason for the help of course and for havin the right technic for bleeding the clutch :) :) he knows lol

we also got the rear subframes swapped over between his black car and the red shell.  installed the 1 piece driveshaft on his car and swapped the diff for my old welded r180. all that stuff is his now.  i held onto my turbo r200 tho..  since i have a IRS car again :)

Jeremy AFeb 13, 2011, 1:32 am · #17

Awesome awesome stuff,  so the notch's clutch is back in business now?  Sweet,  and Jason's car is gonna be amazing now too,  now that his ca18det is running and he has your sick suspension and a welded diff too!

IggyEGuanaFeb 13, 2011, 5:47 am · #18

yep. ran the notch tonight.  BIG BIG BIG thanks to jason and kendra for takin my car and gettin the tires and muffler put on while i was stuck at work.

The muffler makes it much quieter but it doesnt have that special oomph! that it had anymore.  i guess CA20s dont care for mufflers.  I lost every run iirc lmao.  winning wasnt the point tho so its all good.  Jason on the other hand did work!  great night out at the runs with the SpecOne crew!

ProlowtoneFeb 13, 2011, 5:52 am · #19

my ca is loud with the muffler on there. I need to make an HD clip. good to hear more cars are up and running

sideways_s12Feb 13, 2011, 4:41 pm · #20

hahaha def was a fun night and I did some work but need moar boost lol and no prob on the tires and the muffler was just tired from the night before with the swap stuff was got about 4 hours of sleep in about a 32 hour time frame lol

Beginning of the exhaust. heads up I've decided i dont like divorced dump. if ur trying to be kinda quiet sometimes then forget it cuz its basically like having open dump. boosting or not.

took it to work cuz it was raining too hard to ride the bike. this was after drifting half the event with 4 runs and then blowing the headgasket

this is morning of the event after pulling an all nighter and having just got it put together. completely untest. big thx to my friends Jeff and Arturo for thier help

as of right now i just got a set of 280zx turbo injectors, new headgasket, new front crank seal, new cam seal, new fittings for the turbo oil feed, and a better coupler for the turbo compressor exit. going to get everything squared away before Nov 18th and then try to drift the whole day this time.

And to address the topic about running 370cc injectors on this setup with no tuning except fuel pressure adjustment.. dont. I adjusted the fuel pressure so far down that the fuel wasn even atomizing out of the injectors anymore the car wanted to die. the best i could get it was halfway driveable. still felt a lot more powerful than the stock ca20 tho

Johnny_boiOct 26, 2012, 9:00 am · #24

hey i saw your old car on NOS Energy Drink presents: Keep Drifting Fun! its around the 2:00 mark.

Love the civic Radiator along with the ???? intercooler
had this idea bevor too....is the Rad big enough?

IggyEGuanaOct 30, 2012, 2:29 am · #26

ya it didnt overheat so thats good. if it lasts til next summer then we will really see how it compares under stress

intercooler is audi/vw

did the headgasket, cam seal, front crank seal today. setup the hot pipe with the new silicone elbow. switched the injectors out to a 280zx turbo set. 265cc. tested them beforehand and they are great with no leaks. switched out the B&M fuel pressure gauge that died after 1 day of use for a cheap ass one from i dont remember where. its already better cuz the needle stays a lot more steady. i got the exhaust off of it. gonna undo the divorced dump and tweak the rest of the system a little so it fits better. might go ahead and route it to the back of the car so it ends just after the rear axle (FD legal, not that it matters). right now it ends right under/behind the driver seat. need to fix the oil feed line tee setup. got a couple pieces from Z1 motorsports. theyre brass and a little weak feeling. we will see if they even make it through install.

IggyEGuanaNov 19, 2012, 2:21 pm · #27

pretty much says it all

we clearanced the fender away from the tire with a sledgehammer and then i drifted it some more.

the ca20e+t ran great. at one point something got inside cyl 1 and flattened both spark plugs and left a bunch of dents in the piston. it still compression tested fine tho and after replacing the plugs it drove great again. it did start acting up again right before i got it home last night so we will see what the verdict on the motor is. it felt like the timing went off for some reason.

the red shell will be getting some action soon

RedneckNov 19, 2012, 4:42 pm · #28

No cool story about how you totaled this one? Considering this is your 2nd s12 that has been totaled at the track it might not be a bad idea to get another extra shell after you finish up the red shell hahaha. All jokes aside though that really does suck. Bummer to see it get totaled basically right after you finish up your ca20et project.

sideways_s12Nov 19, 2012, 8:44 pm · #29

Yeah that does suck but atleast your ok for the most part and are you putting the ca20 et in the red shell or you going to move forward with the vh?

IggyEGuanaNov 20, 2012, 2:16 am · #30

3rd gear entry at roughly 60mph. the front end washed out. i tried slowing it up but the wall was coming too fast so i steered away from the wall and went two feet in (clutch and brake) and spun it so it backed in.

If i get some cash i'm doing the vh for sure. as of now im just dropping the ca20et into the red car.

something weird is going on with the motor. i popped the plugs out of #1 tonight and sure as hell they were flattened again and the inside of the chamber is pretty beat up from driving about 1.5 miles with it running on 3 cyls. couldnt find anything in there though and I didnt see anything fly out or hear anything in there when i fired it up with the plugs out. I find it hard to believe that two different foriegn objects got into cyl 1 and did the same damage. there is a small loss of compression this time. down to about 155 from 175. probably from a dinged up valve seat. after replacing the plugs AGAIN it runs fine AGAIN. idk. the one thing to note is that the PCV port is on the #1 intake runner.

So i'll be looking for a good ca20 long block

Navy_Mech2Nov 26, 2012, 12:15 pm · #31

damn dude. no luck. was that with the neo gen's on the front? just be careful when you guys throw this shell into the dumpster. Dont need any lacerated legs like last time lol

IggyEGuanaNov 26, 2012, 12:43 pm · #32

lmfao! that was such a nightmare and he still doesnt walk the same

ya the neo gens were on the front but its no fault of the tires. the course had dust, small gravel, bumps, and the consistancy of the asphault was real rough. none of that is good for grip.

Navy_Mech2Nov 26, 2012, 2:22 pm · #33

at least you were having fun before and a little bit after it happened.

I just looked at the pictures again and i cant believe that quarter window on the right side didnt blow out even with the entire side of that car wrinkled up lol

IggyEGuanaNov 26, 2012, 8:11 pm · #34

haha ya someone pointed that out to me that day. crazy how the glass took the load and directed it upward

ProlowtoneDec 4, 2012, 5:51 am · #35

Strap it down and pull that shit out then go drift it again

IggyEGuanaDec 4, 2012, 11:34 am · #36

i can drift it as is :)
