i wasnt planing on doing this right now but a friend bought my s13.... so i went and bought this 1984 hatch. the inside is pretty decent, needs a really good cleaning but is whole. door panels and seats arent bad!. but i have a nice set of turbo seats waiting. it also has been hit in the rear, im worryed about this but i think it can be fixed. The car is a SRA car.. it has been sitting for 7years. the owner did rebuild the motor and said it sat for a while so it started to smoke.. once we got it home i just threw in a battery, used some carb cleaner and the motor fired right up!. the tank is good and the pump still works. so i think with some fresh gas and plugs, fuel filter this ca20 could probly run eought to beat around with it.  so for now my plan is to clean the car up, replace the tail lights and other pieces, find a turbo wing, and lip kit. get the ca20 running for cheap untill i find a trans i wanna use for the 350.  i really want a 4speed but probly wont have the cash for this. probly just run a turbo350.

heres the list of parts i have.
2 15x7 enki rims
2 15x8 enki rims
s13 front coverovers
i have a nice set of s13 rear struts(can i use these?)
build chevy 350- as maybe 20miles(as aftermarket everything, just need headers, bored 10over, vortec heads, roller rockers blablabla)
FPR
255fpl fuel pump(probly to much for my set up)
also have a new aftermarket pump that bolts to the block
turbo seats
b/m floor shifter if i beside to run the auto trans

thats all i can think of right now.

front coilovers plus nice rear kybs(240sx) $150

well i had 2. the one with the build motor i bought off a coworker. he blew the stock motor up, found a rebuild motor on craigs. still on the stand. he put an oil pan and valve covers on and then it just sat in the truck. i was the only one to drive the truck for like 10miles(to my old house to the new one) that was a 1985

the other was a 1984, i trade my last s12 for it. but it had a stock 305, it was a big turd and i couldnt really pay over $20bucks a day to just get to work and home(about 60mile around trip). so i sold it. it was a clean truck. i put the headers and a stockish duels(look stock, wasnt loud), 33in tires on fresh oem painted rims, cowl hood. just cleaned it up.

soo i took the fuel pump sending unit to work. fixed the fuel level gauge but then the pump wouldnt come on!. so im the middle of figuring out why the pump wouldnt come on, the wire came lose again!. but i got the pump working. i think there is a short at the ecu. added 5 gallons of fresh gas. she fired right up. found some bad vac. lines. after replacing them the car seems to run pretty good. idles and spins the tires really easy(in the yard). i installed the k/n filter(oem replacement) from my last car and i have a set of new ngk wires/plugs ill be installing this weekend. it does oil smoke alittle if you get on it but i ran some engine clean threw it. now just gotta change the oil. going to put a little atf in there hoping itll help free it up.  as well as seafoaming it.

did a quick wash job today!.  also put the other 2 rims on.

i like the turbo interior my self. but this is pretty cool..

been reading up on the swap. seems like i could just use my stock blazer mounts(i think there the same as the g20 van mounts with a plate). i found a 4speed trans for $200 with bell housing i "might" go get this weekend. but i might not. i havent made up my mind. and the guy still hasnt sent me pics. not really wanting to drive 2 hrs to find out its a truck trans or some shit.

right now im trying to found out what oil pan i can use. from what iv seen it has to be a front sump pan. i have a rear. some sites say GTO. but cant find any on ebay or jegs or summit. i dont know if a newer gto will work on a older motor?..

you have plenty of trees i would get it between two chain the front to one and get a come along connected to the other and pull on it at a slight upward angle. it took a even hit to the rear. back in the day i pulled a lot worse than that out using that method

that was my plan! but my gm at work said to look into a porta power. there pretty cheap(100-150). its a like a big jack. so i have push it from the inside out. might have to do both.!
cutter67Jan 6, 2012, 7:22 am · #23

Save your money on the porta power or you can rent one at advanced or other parts stores. You need to pull it back in place not push it

what i think you should do if the rest of car is nice talk to your local frame shop. looking at the pictures its a 2 hour pull. if you strip the bumper and the inside hatch area. i think you could get it pulled for less than $300.00

thought about that. but i like doing this stuff myself, i like learning how to do different things other than just the normal stuff. id rather spend the money on the tools to do the job myself. i go threw alot of cars(fix them and sell them). so if i run across another car like this ill have the tools to do it.

plus this car is just a toy. i have a DD(afew) so i really want to take my time with this thing.  kinda why i wanna just get all the parts for the swap/coil overs before i pull the motor. so i dont have another non-moving car in the yard(like the yugo)
cutter67Jan 6, 2012, 6:47 pm · #25

well good for you it never hurts to try to learn something new. i have rebuilt my share of total cars when you could buy them cheap and make money before everyone started to try to do it. i spent many night on my uncles frame machine heres a couple quick tips

1. if the damage was done by a push you pull if it was pulled you push

2. make sure car is secured by 4 points not counting your pull point

3. use a chain style come along or chain fall no cable style

4 find damage inside there is always use hammer while pulling to flatten these areas out while pulling

5. when you think you pulled far enough pull it some more you have to pull 10% to 15% over because of deflection back

have fun and post pictures would like to see it

rollingstockJan 6, 2012, 8:40 pm · #26

ya man for sure. thanxs for the tips!.

did some work on the car after work. got the passager headlight working(found out i need all the trim pieces). all the lights working, heater(all the contacts are dirty from sitting). replaced the dist. cap and rotor, NGK plug wires(from the last car). did some other little odds and ends..  even test drove it down the street, the springs are worn to shit! but it seen to run alright.

He's right, the only way you will fix that damage is to reverse how it happened and pull the rear back out. The method described might work, but this is a unibody chassis, and that gets trickier because you not only tweak the outside, but you risk changing structural points, too.... such as where suspension mounts. Best you take it to a frame shop and pay the 250 to 300 or so to have a professional with a proper adjustable pulling rack yank the right places.... and leave alone the wrong ones. Because trying to pull those crumple zones out at the sides will never work. Just sayin.
