So school is almost over and I'm daydreaming half the time about how I wanna make my S12 look. I was looking at colors options and I gotta say I really like the new brown color from VW

So far most peoples I've talked to about it where like: meeh? brown? that'll looks like an ol' men car.
I've been thinking about some shade of charcoal grey, but I think the brown have growned up in my heart lately.
So let's talk colors!
Looking at paintjob color choice (brown??)
I like the color that's on my s12, I don't think its a usdm gray, not sure what it is...
Also, I've learned that some cars can pull off colors that others can't, for example, my old zed was root-beer metalic, looked sec imo, but I don't think the s12 can really pull of the same look... Or like burnt orange on a 350z, then on s12 don't look right...
I say doo eeeet, if it don't look right, sand and redo
I agree, as much as I love brown cars, I'm not sure the s12 can pull it off. They do look sexy in a copper flake though :)
what's wrong with the color of your car as it sits?
I would love that brown on my S12 - but then again, I'm an Old Guy lol
Hope that doesn't turn you off the color!

i like the brown too......Red i think we are the "Ol men" everyone is talking about
While there are elders here, we all mess with older cars making them look & seem new....
I feel old :(...
But I say this, old enough to know, to young to care
The stock Copper is one of my stock colors, but rootbeer is close and who the heck wouldn't like saying "I painted my car rootbeer metalic..." Or maybe "sparkling rootbeer":D or "ipainted my car A&W mofo"
Gushes of character imo lol
I like VW's brown, but it doesn't look right on anything but a VW. Like I love Sunset Bronze on later Zs, but can't stand orange on anything else.
mmh.. I'll have to play around with photoshop and learn how to use it decently. There is nothing wrong with my car color, but I feel the need for a change.. i'm still just daydreaming tho, there is a good chance that I'll change my mind between now and then.
Also, my car is showing some rust bubbles around the fender and doors, it need a complete sand down to be clean up to my taste, might aswell try something new. I totally agree that a burnt orange S12 won't look right, but I think the brown could suit it nicely! And that'll surely be different... and won't be a cop magnet color (like bright ferrari red).
I wanna see someone here do this

Come on, don't be a p**** :D lol jk
Actually, they have allot of colors and effects, and if you no like, peal it off... No damage to paint and afaik no need a primer just slap it on :D
Seriously, I need to see about some advert money from them lol
I don't know why but I have never liked any other color on S12s besides the factory ones.
350z has a nice silver.
Toyota has a nice light blue
Chrysler has a nice dark blue that would look good with a red.
Toyota tan-ish color i kinda like as well
vw green is a good one.

BMW brown for you

^ Bro, don't forget aviator grey, one of my fave grays.
mmh fyneyoungstunna, that porsche and that second ferrari are pretty much my fav! I don't know about the bmw brown tho, there is too much metallic flake for my taste.
mmh.. cocoa pearl
Pagan gold
Spanish gold
I saw some root beer paint jobs too, I agree they look good!
Titanium KAC
I have a theory about paint colors... that some colors look good universally on just about any chassis (the primaries: red, white, yellow, blue variations, black).. and then some colors looks good on only certain body shapes. Silver is especially dependent on body lines. There are a lot of cars that silver makes look boring, and the cars where it looks good are usually due to the fact that the body design itself is interesting and stands on its own regardless of paint... and sometimes silver looks good BECAUSE you don't want to take away from an interesting body design (downplay the paint).
Metallics are kinda like that. Honestly, your car looks good now because you broke up the blue with the black hood. It's a perfect balance of contrast... light and dark. This is why carbon fiber hoods are usually left unpainted. This is why stainless accents in good condition are a nice contrast to black, darker blues, reds, etc, whereas stainless on a silver or white car looks kinda .... gramdma lol.
SO... you're talking about a brown which will typically have a little flake in it. Some things to consider...
The cars you showed are radically different in body lines. In the same way that the Audi TT and Porche can pull off the new grey paint trend, those brown cars you posted can pull off any color, too. It falls back to my "body lines" theory. I'm not sure S12 has the body lines to pull it off. Perhaps if you had a Mark I with the polished stainless accents around the windows it might have contrasted it nicely. But I think with the Mark II's plastic accents (which are of course aging and not "new" in appearance most of the time.. another advantage of SS is you can polish and maintain it), it will just look like brown against some older plastic. To me that screams late-70's sedan. To me, mind you... but that was a color used back then. Sure, it was on the Firebird Trans-Am, but it was also on any number of Oldsmobile and Ford four door slowpoke sedans. And the S12 does not have the exotic body lines of the Trans-Am. Just saying. My point is that brown is not a universal color IMO, and might not look best on a Mark II.
Those gold variations will look great! On a car with curves. If those spray tests don't prove that, then I dunno what will lol. Sure, the S12 has a few curves... two or three square inches on each corner lol. I think it will end up looking like a low-rider, and all you'll need are these:
Why not go with something like a dark silver, or how about something really different like an electric blue? I've seen an elec. blue on an S110 and it looked good....
Or how about forest green? Nobody's done that in a long time. Mine was a close color but not quite.
Or what about something classier, like a metallic burgundy? Very 80's, and I think would look good exclusively on S12 notchbacks...
Or even solar yellow? Or aquamarine?
I also go back to the black hood comment earlier and think whatever you do, leave that Mark II hood black. Contrast is king.
better representation of that vw brown
Doesn't sway my thoughts on why it won't look good on a Mark II S12. But I do like the color on that GTi ;)
What can Brown do for you?
Did somebody say Gray/Grey? What about BMW's Stahlgrau Metallic? Pure sex!
Note the contours of that car... curves. curves that let the light show off the curves. The color is a neutral tone. A nice one. But a neutral tone.
S12 don't have curves like that.
