It all started back in 2006 junior year in highschool, a bunked day of school which led me to the junkyard for s13 parts. I layed my eyes on this 1984 Datsun (by nissan lol) 200sx not even knowing what it really was at the time! I looked underneath to find solid rear axle and i knew this thing had potential. Ofcourse i didnt have even 1500 in my life savings at the time, leaving the bone yard that day i was sure this car was destine for the crusher. Years went by i got myself tied up in the s13 game, owned one in highschool and purchased another in late 2008 which i still own to this day. I also always wanted to own a b13 just as a daily so i bought one in florida last year, well anyways i landed myself at the scrapyard to get some interior plastics (for the b13) and just kinda free roaming i found the old s12 i had seen 6 years ago! Feel in love with this thing and after pleading with the guy to sell me it as a whole car (or what was left of it) i was shortly thereafter cruising down the highway with it on the trailer in my rearview. Bought it for 400 dollars mostly gutted no headliner, carpet, rear seats, alot of dents, flat tires and lr was completely missing this is how i found it..

With this car now in my hands i finally have the chance to build what ive always had pictured in my head, just a super low, wide, loud badass drift missle. First thing i did was throw a set of rollers on it i had hanging around and still it took me and a couple buddies about 10-15 minutes to get it to this spot in the driveway due to both drums being locked up solid.

Im starting this build from the ground up, first things first removed engine and trans, dented/rotted front fenders, fully gutted the interior including about 40lbs of sound deadening.

What my plans are:
-Buy ls400 front sump 1uzfe with adapter plate mate to a sohc ka trans
-Custom make motor mounts and trans crossmember
-Convert front suspension to s13 and run coilovers front&rear
-Retrofit ford 8.8 solid rear axle with disc
-Paint inside and install two full bucket Brides
-Gut the trunk area and remove rest of sound deadening
-Get custom driveshaft made
-Beat the piss out of it

Heres what ive accomplished so far..

Picked up the diff from a 2000 Ford explorer at a local junkyard for $250 and bought another passenger side axle for $50

Chopped 2 and 15/16ths out of the drivers axle tube, squared it up and mig welded it back together

Made a custom coilover setup from coils/sleeves purchased on ebay lol should allow me to run and eibach spring in the future though

The new total length of the diff is about 3/8ths of an inch shorter than the h190, the process of cutting all the mounts off the datsun and ford differentials sucked and i dont have pictures. If this is something you want to take on yourself buy a oxygen/acetelyne setup and a grinder theyre a must. I put a new radius on every bracket so it would fit on the ford axle tubes which measure 3 inches in diameter, after alot of measuring and head scratching with the help of my father heres the outcome..

First time bolting it up all went well, had a little clearance issue but nothing to lose sleep over..

Hope i dont loose too many people here on my rim/tire setup . Since the whole wheel fitment thing got popular like any other enthusiast ive looked at hundreds of pictures and different setups, sometimes it almost just gets too much to decide exactly what i want.  After looking at many bosozoku rides from japan suddently massive dish and offset started to grow on me. Picked up some 15x10's with -44 offset for 100 bucks in mint shape and also some cragar d windows 15x8's -12 2 for 30 bucks, total cost 130 for six wheels im on a budget here so nothing flashy about this setup..All tires mounted on these wheels will be used free stuff i get from work which means skinny width high sidewall tires, but anyways ill let the pics speak for themselves. Wont be rolling with them white all satin black now..

Built a budget bead blaster for some super stretching action
Bolted up the rear wheels and then cut a huge hole in the floor for the differential to clear and sat the car on the ground for the first time with the ford 8.8, and yes i will be running flares  :grinwink:

Just want to thank anyone who has checked in on my build or commented, everyday some thought goes into this project ..defenitly going to stay busy and ill keep it updated. Just finished cleaning up most of my front end setup ill be using s13 spindles, s13 ball joints pressed into the s12 arms, and 300zx 5x114 hubs. Still not exactly sure what im going to use for tie rods and whats compatible, im also still on the hunt for some s13 coilovers. A couple days ago i went back to the yard i got this car at and bought a trunk lid off a mk2 which is in good shape, i think im really lucky to find another notch trunk lid around here..Iggy ill be using a 1uzfe lexus v8/nissan 5 speed just stock for now, my main focus is to just get it in and running maybe some power upgrades later on.

I swear almost every one of these cars has potential even if it sat at a scrap yard for that long.  I love that stupid low, wide drift beater style, looks sweet man I'm following this thread!

Spoolinups13Dec 22, 2012, 8:41 pm · #12

Picked up a 1990 ls400 last night! Bought for 500 bucks and put it through its paces on  the way home lol, had no problem smoking the tires and sounded like something wicked with the exhaust leak. This car was pretty much just what i was looking for, the body is hammered and the front end is all out of wack but the motor still seems to run smooth minus an idle issue when cold and the check engine light being on. Im gonna work on fixing its little issues before pulling it but here she is.... :yay!:

Spoolinups13Dec 22, 2012, 9:08 pm · #14

Im a nissan guy at heart and alot of people are questioning why im not going with a vh45, but after working on toyotas for 3 years im starting to like them more and more not to mention i have access to all the wiring diagrams toyota, lexus, scion.

Hey I'm not hating just notice guys going more with the toyo v8 rather than the vh doesn't matter either way really it's going to be an awesome build....

wonder how hard it would be to boost one of those ....

which trans do u use and where to u get the adapter?

Spoolinups13Dec 27, 2012, 9:07 pm · #19

Picked up a ka24e trans and i havent bought the adapter yet but im going with the swap1uz.com one which allows you to retain the nissan bellhousing,throwout/fork/ and nissan slave cylinder.

IggyEGuanaDec 28, 2012, 9:16 am · #20

how much is the adapter? i was on their site a few days ago and there isnt shit for info on there.

Spoolinups13Dec 28, 2012, 9:45 am · #21

300 for the adapter, he sells on ebay. Youll also need a throwout adapter and a spacer for the input shaft ive yet to get in tough with him about the bell housing wether it needs to be machined or not.

turbo-s12Dec 28, 2012, 12:22 pm · #22

i saw one on ebay i think for like 200-300

nice to see some one else do a 1uz swap like you said im also a die hard nissan fan and i would love to put a vk56 but they dont fit in the engine bay like a 1uz does cant wait to see how your build goes though.

sideways_s12Feb 1, 2013, 10:23 pm · #24

Theres a member doing a 1uz swap currently....

Spoolinups13Feb 2, 2013, 6:36 pm · #25

Ive never owned a v8 car especially with a 5 speed so i guess im kinda overly ambitious about finishing it lol, the other member doing a 1uz swap is just a little ahead of me. I have the motor on a stand now just re-gasketing it and paint, the trans i have and the adapter plate is on order. Its been a couple weeks since i updated so thanks for the bump ill have pics soon!

Time for an update ive been making steady progress considering i wrench alone, got the motor, ecu, and harness out of the lexus and sent it off to the junkyard. It took me a solid 5-6 hours to pull the engine because the two bolts on top of the bell housing snapped off flush with the trans making it almost impossible to separate the two, gotta love 20 year old aluminum blocks and corrosion! Its on a stand and im currently just freshening it up, new gaskets, timing belt,paint..

Looks good I wanna hear this thing fire up lol

Spoolinups13Feb 20, 2013, 7:58 pm · #28

Finally acquired some s13 coilovers which was the last thing i needed to convert the front end. I went with the bargain basment setup..s13 spindles, balljoints, inner tie rods, and escort out tie rods,300zx hubs. The coilovers are just cheap EM USA but i picked up all four used for 300, im actually surprised by there quality my ksports on the s13 actually have more rust on the threads than these.. I made some good progress 35 degrees outside no snow ill take it! Pulled the dash and finished up the front end

Woof. Smaller tires please!

Looks good otherwise man, keep it up :)

Spoolinups13Feb 21, 2013, 10:08 am · #31

Im kinda limited to certain tire sizes considering i get them for free so i cant get too picky, you would recommend a smaller tire on a 15x10 than what im running?

sideways_s12Feb 21, 2013, 10:53 am · #32

you just need some flares and roll the fenders and it look decent

I_heart_VVLFeb 21, 2013, 10:53 am · #33

Not a narrower tire, but I'd definitely go for a shorter tire if possible. Like a 50 or 45 series tire.

turbo-s12Feb 21, 2013, 10:00 pm · #34

I think the tires you got on there is perfect put some zg flares on there and ur set imo

Been making some steady progess on the swap, my collins adapter came in so i bolted the trans to the engine for mockup and dropped it in. The engine barely cleared the radiator support when going in with the load leveler at full tilt, its currently sitting on a dirtbike stand and the trans is supported by a jack stand. Fabricated some mounts tonight that ill be welding to the subframe tommorow.

Picked up this lexus lx470 manifold brand new for 60 bucks from a guy on craigslist, gonna need it for steering shaft clearance

Fuckin sweet! I want to run a v8 sooooooooooo bad!!

That look sexy as fuck btw Looks like the s12 was equipped with a v8 from factory.... I may have missed this but what trans is that on the pic above. I'm still debating if i want to do a vh or a 1uz I'm waiting for someone to finish both before i decide and go pull a motor...
Spoolinups13Mar 16, 2013, 9:32 pm · #38

Thanks man, its fits like factory too i was even able to get an oil filter at work that fits the 1uz and clears the k frame. Im using a trans from a ka24e 240sx, this adapter plate will work with a ka,z32 or z33 trans thats the beauty of it. I have a z32 tranny as a back up aswell.

sideways_s12Mar 16, 2013, 10:11 pm · #39

how much was that adapter and where did you get from....I'm liking my options right now...

also that lx470 manifold looks like it might flow like crap....looks small in the pic.
Spoolinups13Mar 17, 2013, 7:38 am · #40

The adapter is from collins performance i paid 300 for it, id recommend him over anyone else he was cool to do business with. The manifold does look restrictive as hell but i know tbe lexus lx470 is bigger displacement and makes more horsepower so theres no way my motor will lose horses from it. Ill have pic of the motor mounts and trans later..

sideways_s12Mar 17, 2013, 8:32 am · #41

Your not using the stock trans mount since your using the ka trans?

Spoolinups13Mar 17, 2013, 6:03 pm · #42

Busted ass all day to get the motor and trans sitting on mounts , the motor mounts are made out of some thick wall tubing i picked up at home depot and for the trans i retained the factory crossmember just had to make plates since the trans sits further back. I read some where that the trans tunnel has to be hammered out to fit the ka bellhousing, i didnt run into that issue i guess my motor isnt as far back..the drivers side valvecover is about half inch away from the booster and super close to the brake lines but im using 300zx poly motor mounts so there wont be much movement. Check it out!

Looking good bro. Do you know If anyone has ever Boosted one of these motors?

Spoolinups13Mar 17, 2013, 9:15 pm · #45

Brett Collins the guy who owns Collins adapters has a 1uz powered s13 supercharged with a 350z six speed trans its pretty intense but i think hes gonna slap a turbo on instead. Other than that idk maybe a couple people on youtube but personally i like all motor at this point after dealing with all the underhood heat of my ka-t.

sideways_s12Mar 17, 2013, 9:21 pm · #46

I'll have to look that up and see I want a v8 but i need it boosted for what I want to to do....

Spoolinups13Mar 17, 2013, 9:43 pm · #47

If you dont mind me askin..what are you planning to do?

sideways_s12Mar 17, 2013, 10:05 pm · #48

I want to attend the TX2k Meets and races  Not sure if you heard of them but look them up on youtube I actually posted a vid of the tx2k9 races I'll post the like. But alot of the cars are high hp attend nothing less then 600hp....

Daaayum, exciting build.  Those are some interesting motor mounts dude,  good thinking.

Spoolinups13Mar 21, 2013, 4:31 pm · #50

Got a couple hours of light yesterday when i got out of work and it was 35 degrees out with no snow so i figured i would mock up my sway bar. I know alot of people with s12's using a 1jz/2jz or 1uz half clearance issues do to the oil pan being too far forward, i thought maybe i could run spacers to bring it further away from the subframe...well that didnt even come close to working. what i ended up doing was flipping the sway bar over and mounting it behind the engine and it bolts under the control arms instead of over. For the spacers i used 1 1/2 by 1 rectangular steel i had kickin around and toyota matrix front bushings/brackets, the setup isnt done yet its freagin snowing out today so i wont be able to finish it up but heres some mock up pics..
