Looks like a challenging project - how does it look under the hood?  I have certainly seen worse ones made very clean again.

felineDec 18, 2012, 8:30 pm · #3

Underhood looks pretty good I got it to crank and it sounded pretty healthy, the oil is black but its oil so that's good and the coolant is still green and looks new *dances a little* someone has like cut in half 2 of the exhaust side spark plug wires. like both ends are where they should go but midway in the wire they are snipped WTF! I think she'll run pretty easy with fuel and new wires
. Anything i should look out for this is my first S12 so I cant really say I know all the tricks yet.

Ewwwwww,  looks pretty gross.  How long was that thing sitting exactly?  Time sitting can be a real bitch to a car.  It will be interesting to see if it fires up with some fresh fuel and a tune up.  Look out for dead animals in the venting! I love it when these cars are saved from the wreckers, keep up the good work!

Your tank is so clean, still needs to be pulled as the fuel has turned to varnish by the looks of it.. be thankful your pump is good. Glad to see another one saved! Someone should move this to the build page instead of the gallery

felineDec 19, 2012, 6:06 pm · #8

sorry if I put this thread in the wrong spot!

That fuel pump is done I jumped 12v to it and it did nothing so that's worthless i am thinking about running a universal walbro inline but the previous owner BROKE EVERY BOLT that holds that hanger into the tank! FFFUUUUU! i don't have a clue what i am going do about that but its going tosuck regardless.

As for how long this thing has been sitting I don't know exactly but it had a blue MI plate on it and blue plates haven't been issued in a long time probably 7-10 years-ish? I dont really know.

I am willing to bet it will fire right up with some fuel and new plug wires on the old plugs even.

Quick question can I take that connector off the positive terminal on the battery cable the po has broken it and I was wonder if that's needed or can I just solder it all to a new cable end? Thanks.

ProlowtoneDec 22, 2012, 5:23 pm · #10

your pump was fried eh, that sucks. aftermarket pumps can be found for fair prices the wont kill the wallet. Do you mean this 2 pin connector the attaches to the positive terminal? Yes you will need to keep it. Cant remember what it was for, but the car wont start without it connected. If the stock connector is broke just cut it off and crimp or solder a new connector onto the two wires and put it back on the terminal  :grinwink:

Dang I was hoping to catch a break on that terminal. Any how I started vacuuming the s12 out and I BROKE 3 vacuums just doing the driver side, I now have a brand new shop vac waiting for me tomorrow. Car is so dirty I might not be ok sitting on these seats just knowing they where at one point this bad>.> so gross. eh on a bright side buckets on s13 rails sounds like a pretty easy instal.

I got the fuel pump spinning again after a few slams on the work bench so that saves me some cash at least until it dies for good.

s13 rails wont fit without modifications.

iv seen much worse so good luck cleaning it up

Just finished dying a carpet in very similar condition.  I took mine out (easy), washed with a hose and stiff brush and bleached  it as light as it would get.   Let it dry for three days in the sun and sprayed it with duplicolor vinyl and fabric die (five cans) and it looks and feels like new!  MUCH better than I expected!

I also put down an additional layer of sound-deadening felt material before the reinstall and it makes a. Big difference.   A very rewarding project... And it smells like a new car too! I had considered a new carpet but this was a great solution.

I think marine carpet is my weapon of choice. I think i can get the seats to maybe clean up, but right now I am waiting for parts to show up from ebay>.> good fun that is.

You guys inspire me :cry2: a fellow pal enlightened me to know that exhaust plugs have no "common" use, deletion is ok

Well spent some more time on my S12 and there's some craziness the maf is boned totally rusted up and the was a dead mouse in it, awesome. Found a few broken connectors, and found more of the PO's wire chopping habits I guess this dude just loved cutting wires and shit>.> but after a box of butt connectors I think I have all the wires connected again.

I found another dead animal and this one broke my headlight I flipped up the lights and the passenger side was broken by a dead snake(or maybe its dead now?) oh well i cleaned the snake out and got both the lights to stay up so well at least i don't have to fuss with that anymore.

But I still have no spark, I wonder if my disturber is still good anyone know how to check it?

On a cooler note I picked up some new wheels for this thing today because finding 14s is hard as balls, They are 6.5x15 mesh style and they are really cool (i think) and I picked them up dirt cheep.  Gona paint them up and get some good tires and get everything epic.
