I don't take credit for any of this work. It was done by the previous owner. I hope to make a long list of mods to this car on my own, including a turbo upgrade. Until then, enjoy the progress of this minty s12 that wen't from a very poor state to two car loving previous owners.

This is how the car looked upon pick up

The original motor and trans were shot. Not really worth repairing the previous owner dropped in a KA24DE motor and 5 speed trans. Also included was a JWT KA ECU and an s13 front end suspension swap.

4-2-1 Headers and a make shift Evo 10 3" catback were installed with a custom magnaflow twin tip.

Infinimax96Mar 20, 2013, 6:10 pm · #5

Yeah, I have the infamous KA24DE chain guide rattle. I plan to take the valve cover off this weekend to remove the chain guide as well as repaint the cover.

Anyone have any thoughts on color?

turbo-s12Mar 20, 2013, 8:30 pm · #6

I say 350z blue for the valve cover

sideways_s12Mar 21, 2013, 2:30 pm · #7

Did you take that decal off the pass side of the car it was hideous.....

Infinimax96Mar 21, 2013, 5:14 pm · #8

Yes that Decal was removed.

If that is yours, you did a good job. It actually looks like real wood. I want to do something creative just haven't decided what yet.

It's not mine lol, and it was done by hydro dipping. I can't imagine someone actually painting that haha.

UPDATE!

So I've done a few things to the S12 over the last couple of months.

One of the first things I did was convert it to electric fans.

I used the write up in the stickies and a set of 4th Gen Nissan Maxima Electric fans I had laying around the garage. Surprisingly they fit very well with a bit of the bottom corners hacked off.

I also had a huge problem with the KA Trans last week. The rear output seal went out while I was driving and it dumped 2/3 of my trans fluid on the ground. Luckily I got it home and got the seal replaced although the trans did spit out some metal bits when I drained it. After new seal and new fluid it shifts like butter but tends to make some noise. I guess we'll see how long it will hold up.  :grinwink:

I took the car to some local events and got some nice pictures as well.

Love the meshies where'd you find them?

burritomannnApr 22, 2013, 4:03 am · #22

The rear ones huh Jason? They look perfect on the rears!

Infinimax96Apr 22, 2013, 10:43 am · #23

The rear wheels are 14x7 +15 Enkei Apache IV. Kinda a hard wheel to find. I don't have a full set only 3 out of 4. One of them I keep in storage the other 2 on the car. The Fronts are 14x7 +17 Enkei Classic 92s.  I wish I had a full set of the Apache IV. Maybe one day I'll find a 4th wheel and I can rock the full set.

Yesterday I stripped the Paint off the valve cover. I have something awesome in the works. I'll keep it a surprise until it's finished though.
ArroApr 23, 2013, 6:05 pm · #24

yeah your car is pretty to look at, I like it lots!

Infinimax96Apr 23, 2013, 6:15 pm · #25

Thanks man!

UPDATE!! I got the paint all stripped off the KA Cover. Should be painting it this week. I also have to repaint the Headers. Some of the paint has chipped and there is mud baked into them.

I also got my seat brackets and I'm getting my double locking slider on Thursday. Then I have to fab up the mounting points on the brackets and should be able to throw in both Corbeau CR1's.

ArroApr 23, 2013, 6:35 pm · #26

You didn't like the purple? I did lol

Why are you repainting the header? Are they the stainless type? I have a stainless steel header on my KA24DE and after awhile it discolors with rainbow hues; that is normal for stainless steel. Or are you talking about the stock manifold? If you are, then I suggest you invest in a good Ebay stainless steel header. I got mine for 70 bux off of Ebay and just had to modify the EGR return tube, otherwise it was 100% bolt on.

Which I suppose makes it 98% bolt-on lol. But it looks and performs well. There are pics of it on my car somewhere on here. I have two S12's so find the right build thread (the blue hatcbback) and take a look. I know most people don't run them on here so I'm probably one of the only people who have pics of it in and out of the S12.

The 14x7 is a little small for my liking i need to find a full set in 15's 15x8 would be perfect for me....

ArroApr 24, 2013, 1:18 pm · #28

For racing 14x7 is perfect for these cars. Lower centerline and rotating mass. Plenty of footprint still.

Infinimax96Apr 24, 2013, 5:21 pm · #29

Eh, didn't care much for the Purple. It felt out of place. I have 4-2-1 Headers already. The car was bought from rocksprings wyoming and the guy drove it on a lot of muddy unpaved roads. It splashed mud all over the headers and then baked into the them. I'm just going to drop them and respray them.

I would normally agree that a 15 would look perfect but the 14's look amazing. And the big lip makes them look larger then they actually are.  It's a bitch to find tires for them though. 15's give you many more options on tires for a better price.

From this point on I will take credit for all the upcoming changes to this S12. I have a huge list of things to get done by the end up the month. The KA 5speed trans is taking a dump on me. The output bearing is gone almost completely. The Trans smokes and pukes all over the place anytime I drive the car. Luckily I found another trans as well as other parts for a good price. Picked it up a couple weeks ago, just haven't had time to do anything with it. I've been very busy the last few weeks.

1) First on the to do list will be swapping the transmission with another 5speed KA trans. Not sure how many miles but it worked in S13 it came out of, wasn't leaking or making any strange noises like mine currently makes.

2) Second on the list is the Corbeau CR-1's I've had for a while that need to be installed. I have brackets that will need a bit of modification but I'll get at least the driver side in by the end of June.

3) Third I'll be buying a set of coilovers (Raceland S13 coilovers). Yes I'm aware that Raceland's can be considered junk to some but I've done some homework on them as well as ride in some test cars (Raceland is a locally operated out of UT where I live.). The Ride is honestly not bad and for the price and 2 year warranty you can't go wrong.  The front is already converted to the S13 set up so those should be bolt n go. The rear I've decided to go with a custom set up. I'll be removing the spring assembly from the Rear S13 coilover and using the shock/damper portion. Then I'll use a custom spring/adjustable perch. This should replace the stock (Yes, when I mean stock, I mean STOCK struts and shocks from 1985). The ride quality on this car is complete garbage. It bounces on cut springs and handles like huge turd on wheels around corners. Hopefully this will fix my issues as well as give me a little bit more low so the car sits the way I want it to.

I will provide updates and pictures posted as I progress throughout the month of June and July. I'm trying to get this car the way I want it before an upcoming car event in Boise Idaho known as Import Revolution. This will be held in August and my S12 will be competing in a trophy car show.

If all goes well this year and I get the time to actually do more than this I'll be pulling the motor and fixing a few things on the KA24DE. The Valve seals are shot so it burns oil like a boss. I also need to replace the timing chain as well. Tensioners are bad and it makes a lot of rattle noises under the hood. Considering a rebuild and perhaps a turbo if I just so happen to come up with the funds.

:UPDATE:

Finally got the ball rolling on the list of things that need to be done. Put the car up on stands yesterday and started taking things apart. It's a mess to work under the car. Everything is coated and dripping in gear oil that has leaked from the output seal. Made some good progress though. I got the driveshaft out, trans drained and headers removed. Would've got more done if not for lack of daylight. Hopefully I can get the trans out tomorrow and inspect the clutch and decide if I want to swap that while I'm in there.

:Update: Picked these up for free from a local guy. Rear is blown, I mostly wanted them for test fitting the rears since they came off an S13. mounted up one of the rears without the spring perch. Looks like I'll be ordering my Coilovers next week when I get paid.

Also got the trans out. Was miserable working under the car. It's covered in Wyoming clay and gear oil.

New trans is going in next weekend after I clean up everything under the car.
