not to long ago I brought a wreaked s12 from a wreaker, for the motor mainly cos the turbo had gone on mine and was going to cost the same for another second hand turbo.
The thing I also like was that the s12 was digital dash and seeing I was doing a motor change I might as well change the loom an dash over as well (digital dash yeah baby  )only thing is the car didn't have a ECU and I thought mine would work considering its only concerning the engine anyway right.
WORNG.
after doing the swap everything looked good and it even started up first pop, the first thing I noticed was a slight miss in the engine so I thought the timing was out no biggie, set the timing and the miss was still there and because I had put the distributor from the engine I took out on to this one, maybe the leads were mixed up but they weren't.
After a year of having this miss and high fuel consumtion (5km/l 11miles/gallon) also testing constantly, reading error codes and fixing them and replacing what I thought to be faulty equipment on the engine, I finally have had enough:( .
so this weekend I swaped out the digital loom and put back in the analouge loom and dash, after putting the engine bay back together and enough of the dash back together I decided to see if it would start, turned the key to ACC and the clock didn't light up (strange), so I turned it to ON, the dash lit up like it should (still on power to the clock) so I try to start it and I got nothing, so I check the battery terminals, Yay the clock lit up, go to start it still nothing, after checking a few other things and it still not cranking over, I just hot wired it started fine.
only problem was the engine still had the miss F$#@:wall: , so I checked the ecu for faults, 2 new ones, codes 11 (crank angle sensor) and 32 (start signal).
Now my question is, would the crank angle sensor cause it to use that much fuel and why didn't the ecu pick it up on the digital loom.
What usually is wrong with the crank sensor?
