reading that 325IS story reminded me of this guy I ran into. I generally don't talk abou these things but I found this funny. I was leaving town for a show and there was this little civic (mid 90's) w/ a wing, primer'd body kit, and canister exhaust. After I passed him he desided to ride may ass which didn't fly w/ me. So after a few min I dropped 4th and flew off. God, after a sec or 2 he was easily a 1/4mi back (i don't think he even tryed anything). I thought I had got him off my ass and slowed to the posted limit. Then for some reason the ****er desided to catch up. It was actually quiet funny because I just desided to toy w/ him. I let him drop and try to pass me twice and both times I waited till he was just at my nose, droped and flew past him. lol the second time I just let it ride and I think learned his lesson because he didn't try to catch up to me again... lol it must suck to spend that kind of money on a body kit and spoiler and get beat by a car that 10yrs older than yours and looks like crap.

pavement I did that same thing with the honda with the NOS shot when I was racing it. I let it have a huge lead and still raped it.

Yea, I read that, it was really funny!!!

Bah, I hate Hondas ... Not that they're bad cars, they're just overplayed, overhyped, and overrated. A reliable, fuel efficient compact car somehow turned into a full-fledged sports car that dominates everything it its path. It's a David and Goliath story, except David did nothing but talk shit and make shit up and then refused to fight Goliath because "it wouldn't be a fight." ... Gotta love Civic owners ...

lol, ya don't get me wrong a honda can be a great car... infact most honda/acura dealers don't even stock parts for the NSX because the engine is so reliable its just really never been needed. But I doubt I would even get the chance to race an NSX let allown spank it like this guy. lol I mean my car looks like crap but I have put a lot of blood and sweet into it. Its not winning any shows but it drives the way I want it too and thats good enough for me. But a lot of these guys around here spend thousands on this little crap... body kits, fenders, wings, exhaust... and they think their car is just automatically the shit! They think they can just piss on you becuz you don't put as much into how your car looks. I just like proving them wrong. and in this case in a BIG way.

Haha, I know this one guy around here who got a deep green paint job for $3000, then got a body kit and spraypainted it light green because he thought the paint would darken when it dried. He has a '91 Civic CX with the 1.5 liter SOHC engine and an automatic transmission ... He has his engine painted green, all the wires are green, the calipers are green, the rear drums are green and he has green neon inside and out. I've also hear rumours that he plans on painting his hubcaps green, too ;) It's a hilarious car to look at, even more hilarious to hear him say that it runs 9 seconds flat ... To 30 mph ;)

Yeah, i can't wait until i finish my car, and start chatting to people with Hondas, it reminds me of School, some guy brought in his Honda Civic, i think 93 94, Body Kit, Spoiler, Paint job, So it didn't look half bad, just a waste of money in my mind, id say it costed him about... 3-4K Pretty much any of us could make our cars runa 12 Second 1/4 mile with that kind of cash, anyway, we where talking to him, us guys from Diesel class, Cause the people in Diesel class are just smarter then the people in Automative class, Someone from Automotive asked him how fast was his 1/4 mile, and the guy said 13 Seoncds flat, The kids that where from Diesel, walked away, went to the steam bay, and just fell over laughing It was So funny to hear him say that, cause we all knew it wasn't true, NO Turbo, no Supercharger, not even NOS, so there was No way, had the 1.5 SOhc motor.

One of my friends favorite sayings, Its not an Engine unless its got 8 Cylinders, otherwise, its just a motor.

My dad drove my car, when it was Running Perfectly, and he said the last thing that he drove that felt like that was a 69' Z28 Camaro. Those came with the Chevy 302, AWSOME Motors, the Only Chevy motor worthing in my presence.

Umm actually, I think the dealerships don't stock NSX parts because they are kinda rare. They aren't like Lamborghini rare, but I do see way more Porsches on a yearly basis than an NSX. Now when I say rare I mean rare. If someone down the street owns one, that doesn't make it less rare, that just means you are one of a few lucky people to be located near one. If you want to know how rare they are, count how many DIFFERENT ones you see in a week. Now granted they are way more common in big cities like: Hollywood or anywhere in CA, Miami, NY, places like that. I live in milwaukee, so a Ferrari is cause for a town meeting:) (J/K) But I have seen an Aston Martin DB7 drive around by my house once last year. Plus the parts For an NSX are so expensive anyway. I'm just saying that I dont believe that an NSX is actually RELIABLE. But that dosent mean I wouldn't want one;) I had the chance to win one this weekend, but I didn't go for it. It required too much travel... And money, which I dont have. It was a RC car race. They were X-Mods made by Radio Shack. Cool stuff. Grand Prize is a 2005 NSX tricked out and worth over $120,000. But my car wasn't ready. and Neither was I. So I just said "Screw It"

Pavementdate not saved · #9

There are atleast 2 in or around lawrence. I've seen quiet a few in the paper for sale too? I don't think they are as rare as you think? It could just be my area though... The info I got was actaully from an article I read w/ the owner of realtime racing. It was actually about the new car he was going be driving but they trailed off into the NSX. *shrugs*

Yah I know...I killed a cosmetically done up Civic...It had the full kit, as well as Eclipse tails, and some sort of rims...It was definatley all show, and no go...This happened in Georgetown two days ago...I guess VTEC didn't kick in...8)

Nemisisdate not saved · #11

LOL, VTEC kicking in... I guess the guy thought you might back down because he looks "badass". Sleepers have more of an intimidation factor than cars that are all bling with haters driving and nothing but a hamster in a wheel under the hood. (Hater: one who says they can kick your ass up and down the street as many times as you wanna do it but backs down because "you're not worth my time" or some shit like that. More simply, they are all talk and no run)

Jmac279date not saved · #12

Has anyone ever heard the phrase :

"If I switched on my VTEC, I would have kicked your ass."

???

I swear that at least half the people who own Hondas know nothing about their own cars.

Alex Frostdate not saved · #13

Yah I've heard that, but if the VTEC owner knows what he's doing, I think there is a kit you can buy, that lowers the VTEC cam switching RPM...and apparently this can boost lower power...I don't know though...I'm not exactly a Honda fan. 8)

YankeeDrifterdate not saved · #14

yah that kit sounds beliveable. VTEC cars are really fast... if modified well. I like all cars, some more than others, but thewre are few ricer cars I can stand.

all you need to lower your vtec is a rpm activated switch that msd sells and a relay. we hook it up like that all the time. you just wire vtec oil pressure and the solinoid togeather on the switched output of the relay then you can use pills for whatever activation point you want. keep in mind though if you set the vtec to low you will actually loose hp. set it to high and you can't use it before having to shift. the best place to set your vtec is where hp and tq cross.

Jmac279date not saved · #17

Horsepower and Torque "cross" at 5252 RPM with every engine ;)

HP = Torque*RPM/5252

e.g. 116 lb-ft of torque @ 3200 RPM = 70.678 horsepower, 102 hp @ 5200 RPM = 103.02 lb-ft of torque

Vtec is crap, plain and simple. Vtec simplified is just a cam with a secondary profile for higher rpm's, when the oil pressure gets high enough it activates the vtec actuator solenoid which atuates the seonday profile to contact the rockers (or lifters). All it does is allow you to run a cam for low end power and top end power all in one. All vtec does is give you about another 1000rpm to redline and maybe another 6-7 hp stock, and that would be at 8500rpm. Vtec controllers allow you to select when the vtec kicks in, most people will set it at about 5ooorpm, and incase your wondering, it is not the sort of thing you change on the fly, It's the sort of thing you change with a laptop. How a vtec controller works is it cuts out the ground till X amount of rpm's are acheived and them gorunds it out, sending power to the vtec actuator solenoid.
I'm pretty sure that's all correct. If I ever build another Honda, it wont be a vtec motor, it'll be a b18b, good old integra ls motor, with a turbo of course. When I was dickin around with my 93 hatch w/ b18c1, and rebuilt the head using itr components is when I figure out all this vtec crap. You know what the best part about my hatch was,? I made like 4000$ when I sold it!!! Suckers, and the kid that bought it wrote it off like 2 months later
LOLOLOLOL, he called me and asked if I could fix it for under 6000$ I said no cause he had rolled it and ran the motor dry with oil. scmuck. It was so ****ed up, I probably couldn't have fixed it period.

Yeah the original 2-stage VTEC was just that, two cam profiles, the high one only for extreme high rpms, so it's rarely used, but they can advertise the higher peak hp. Sort of like if you ever hear an old V8 muscle car with a "hot" cam in it, especially drag cars, at idle they sound like they're running like crap, barely turning over, because the cam is optimized for high-rpm power. VTEC gives you a hotter cam like that, but a more normal cam profile for normal lower rpm driving.

The newer systems with continuously variable valve timing and lift to give you more power in both the low and high-end, and also better economy since the computer can constantly optimize the timing for the particular driving situation.
