Hey every one, just thought I'd say hi. I bought a 1985 200sx Turbo notchback about a month ago. It's having some problems now but I think it could be the CAS or perhaps somthing in the fuel system(see my posts in CA18ET tech under "Intermittent stalling probs"). Any way, I've been doing some reading and I beleave I need to buy a re-ring kit from IPP and a head rebuild kit. I beleave NAPA sells these for the CA18et right?

I've got a few questions about all this. Let me first say I've got a good amount of car knowladge but I have very little practical info. Can main seals, crank seals, and rings be replaced while the block is in the car? I'm just trying to figure out how much labor is going to be envolved. I'm in a tough spot were I need this 200 to be my main car so I've got to get this crap done. Only problem my lack of practical car knowladge prevents me from doing this work myself. I would love to do it some time just to know how for future reference but I don't have the luxery of being able to have the motor apart in my garage while I read my manuals and try to figure out how to put the damn thing back togather. I need this done asap so I'm going to end up taking it to a mechanic to do. I'm just curious how long and how annoying doing this will be so I can get an idea of what it's going to cost me.

Any way, just thought I'd say hey, check in let every one know that another 85 turbo is still alive (kinda) in the world. Once I get this stuff done I'm off to the exhaust shop to get some pipes from the turbo back bent and I'd like to get what is it... CA20 TB and KA24 intake mani? Or is it the other way around. Of course I'd like to get it intercooled and all that good junk. Got to run, but any input would be greatly appretiated.

I didn't think they brought the notchback into the states as a turbo. Am I wrong? If not, then someone did a motor swap. Not that this info helps you in any way. LOL

Well I'll check the vin in a sec, but by notch back I ment a hatch with those black wanker grills over it. They have been removed now tho :)

Yep, that's a hatchback. The notchbacks have a trunk instead of a hatch. There are some pics in this thread: http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=6026

You can do pretty much an entire engine rebuild without taking the block out, but believe me ... there is no point. It's actually MORE work to leave the block in the bay.

Don't be scared of pulling a motor, it's one of the easier things to do.

everytime i see deksals FJ20 on that red body and stuff, I almost wanan cry. Its soo beautiful.

Ye, pulling an engine is WAY easier than working on it in the bay. Plus, it will KILL your back to keepo bending over into that bay, I did it for 3 months when I started teh CA20ET project. Trust me, its NOT worth it.
