Beside Flowmaster 40 series? Anybody used the Magnaflow XL series? I'm looking for a straight through muffler that is more of an OEM fit. My car came with some sort of canister-style muffler but it hangs low and that's not good for what I'm gonna use the car for.
Key words here are cheap, straight through, 2.5" I.D. and close to OEM fit as possible. Any recommendations?
Thanks guys!
Cheers;
Peter
What mufflers are you guys running?

I use the cheap Thrush Turbo from Crab Tire; 2 1/4" diameter centre-in/offset out. I'm on my second one now but the last one was good for 5 years. In stead of having the tail pipe coming by the center near the gas tank I had it coming out one the other side like the 240s.
I use a MBRP straight through oval...center in offset out. T-304 stainless. Got ti for pretty cheap. Their actually in Canada.
Their website use to list all of their universal mufflers, but not much on their now. Call and talk to Martin....and he can help you out. They did an awsome job on mine.
Who's Martin? Is he on the board, can you PM me his contact info? Thanks!
I am using a Borla ZR-1 muffler it's a 3 in straight-through. I think they make the min 2.5 but they aren't cheap mine cost me 139 or 149 from summit.
Mine didn't come with hangers the shop i took my car to to get the exhaust on put it on.
pics of it are here (http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=6926)
cherry bomb turbo or some stock muffler (probably from some truck). both 2 1/2 in/out. both are loud.
I know the Borla sounds nice. Raced against a guy with a S13 with the KA24E and the Borla, and it sounded GOOD. There was another S13 with the KA24DE and a Remus muffler, and it sounded wonderful, but if I remember correctly, when I checked on pricing, they were in the $300 range... :boxing:
The Remus looked awesome too IMHO. It was a dual outlet with kinda ovalish square tips, not ricey at all. Looked and sounded great. Tried to get it from him, but the guy he sold the car to cut it off and threw it away...
:hit: :hit: :hit:
Martin is the contact person at MBRP.........they custom make them to your specs.....like mine I wanted a straight through design, with 2.5" centered going in, and 2.5" offset going out so the tip would line up with the spot in the bumper, and allow for clearence of the spare tire well. They also included a 3 1/2" single walled tip welded on at the muffler can itself....that is seamless, and is the size I wanted. Great craftsmanship......and is all t304 stainless inside and out. Sounds great too.
^^^ theres nime.. i got a turbo back system... lots a flamage :) :banger:
I'm using Mugen like KM polish mufler. All from polished stainless steel
I use a HKS Super Drager 3.5 form the turbo elbo back. With a 10 inch can and a 5.5 in outlet
3.5 inch exhaust with a 5.5 inch tip? Jesus! A bit of an over kill isn't it?
ya its called turbo spike city unless you already upgraded the turbo to a big one.. i use a magnaflow straight thru 3inch race core oval muffler sounds sweet
it sounds cool and the turbo pressure stay about the same.
i need an exhaust for my ca18et , some one please help me.
I use an 8 inch canister with a 5 inch tip. 2.5 all the way back. sounds good and big improvement on the performance side. :)
I use a ractive muffler (straight through style) 2.5 in with 5 in tip www.cardomain.com/id/blue200
Yeah, I use a ractive 2.5" in, 4" tip 18" long ... 2.5 all the way, Hollywood cat
It has a removeable silencer. Without the silencer in, it's fawking loud ... bit too "lawn and garden" equipment sounding.
Let me hear my turbo die nicely

Can't have to big on a turbo car, not possible.
Not true, a smaller turbo, such as a T2 or T25, will spool out of control with 3" or bigger... basically it will outflow the wastegate port, which has the same affect as leaving the wastegate shut. Boost out of control. Engine go POP!
Hmm must be a tiny arse wastegate then, my mates ET Pulsar (oz only 4 door, E15ET powered car) used to do just fine with a 3" straight through on it, it's turbo was tiny tiny. What i ment though was that you can't really have overkill in terms of turbo exhaust size, barring anything like the wastegate control problem the more flow you can get the better.
Can't help with the topic of this thread though, i run 3" turbo back with 3" cat, 3" hotdog and a 3" barrel with 6" tip.
I've got a Ractive on mine. :( I don't like it at all, it would probably sound like crap on a 4 cylinder, but since it's a 6 cylinder it's still got a nice rumble that comes out of it.
a T2 or T25, will spool out of control with 3" or bigger
T25 doesn't over boost with a 3in. i can't vouch for a T2 though. I don't even get a boost spike.
True, a CA18DET or SR20DET turbo will loose boost at high revs though they don't go flying out of control not on their original motors at least.
I run the cheapest exhaust you ever saw. Homemade 2 1/2 pipe from the downpipe (not homemade pipe, just home built setup) with a cherry bomb straight through muffler and no cat or muffler tip. I was thinking of trying a glasspack to cut down on the tractor sound because they do have baffles but with really good flow. Is it true that the less restriction on a turbo system the better? BTW my whole exhaust system cost me about 100 bucks bwahahaha.
Barring any wierd wastegate issues bigger is better. As little backpressure as possible is the aim and there is no standing waves in the exhaust to help scavange the cylinders like on a NA car (the turbo gets in the way of all that) so bigger is better.
Fully sik jap styles :lame:
