Well I seem to have a new place where I can meet new people and who have one thing in common. We all have the same class and taste in cars. ha.
Well It's nice to meet ya'll, people call me Z and I drive/drove a 1984 Nissan-Datsun 200SX. I have the 2.0, and completely stock(?)
By the term drove I mean my car's coolant line from the heater decided it had enough and split... all the way down dumping the coolant. Which is not a good thing when you are doing a little over 120. One square inch of the heads around the 3rd piston got dusted and the entire thing cracked around the first one.
Yeah that was Jan of 03. Now I have replaced the heads with a new lighter more resistant metal. Installed Bosch Plat. 2, accer racing ignition coils, and removed the majority of the heavy interior and I'm the process of fixing the interior.
But my car is still on "blocks" unwilling to come back to life.
well now ya'll know and here's a pic of "Project Aoi" before a spoiler and it's under glow was added on along with it's Datsun insignia.

Welcome to the club, and you are a southern member too...8)
Welcome to the board! I'm sure you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know about these cars...
nice to have yha and its grear that you decided to fix the car and not just throw it away that so many people do, best thing to do is to search fro some of the probs you may be having and if you cant find the answer just ask away
Hey you know what is cool we both live in Texas, we both have 84 nothback's
in blue and we have the same rims, thats awesome..... :werd: Welcome to the club..
well I got much more welcoming than I thought.
Well I'm gonna explain the problem. The car doesn't seem to get enough power to crank. The stater is new, the coils are new, the heads and cam shaft are new. the sparkplugs are new, and the battery is always charged before I attempt to turn it on. I has been sitting still since jan of 03, I think the fuel may have gone "bad" (which I don't know if gas can spoil)
well any comments or suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
welcome to the club fella im sure you will find were a friendly, helpful mob, answer to your question yes fuel can go bad thats why if you plan to store a car a while you should a) fill it completely or b) empty it completely, if you add a bottle of fuel treatment (stuff here called fuel-set) then it should come good, does your car crank and just not start or doesnt crank at all, do you have power to your accesories??? hope we can get you back on the road ;)
Welcome:cheers:
Welcome.
I'm not a fan of bosch. Reason being when I started my project which is similar to urs, boschs sucks. Died with in a year. On the board, everyone recommends getting NGK irudiums and THEY do work! You'll feel a slight response on the TB and better gas mileage. I run Magnecor Comp wires on mine.
Ok so here's how it is. Aoi makes an effort to crank. There is full power to al accesories that have been left on (e.g power windows...that's about it) I turn the key the the on positiuon and push the button but that's where the problem lies. It seems like it's either not getting a good first blast going. I got it running once! That was when I got hella pissed and forced the starter to turn it by shoving a scredriver into it. Needless to say it that starter died and got replaced with a brand new one.
I've had 3 mechanics check out my timing belt and positioning and they said it couldn't have been better by them. So timing isn't an issue. New ign. coils.
although I have a time limit... If I can't get Aoi running by Feb 22 of '05 I have to give her up. I'm moving soon and I need her up and running. That and I have one last 30 mile sprint race left to due before I move up to Boston.
I seriously wanna beat that S2000 sleeper.
oh and uhm one thing.... That AC compressor pump. yeah that's gone. along with about another 500-600lbs of dead weight.
How old is the battery? I would have that checked to be sure its still good, it may not be able to put out the amps that it once did. Be sure to check all your connections at the battery and at the starter, including the grounds that mount below the battery and then to the engine. You said it started when you arched the starter but doesn't start when you hit the switch? Do you have a push button starter or is it the normal Key switch? Is your starter really a new or remanifactored starter? One of our members went through like 4 or 5 starters before finding one that actually worked. The only other thing it may be is something in the wiring from the starter to the switch, or the switch itself. Would start with the basics first, make sure the battery is good (have it tested at an auto parts store or mechanic, most auto parts places don't charge you to test a battery). Check all your battery connections, paying special attention to the grounds as they may be corroded, espeacially where it bolts to the body under the battery.
Well anyways, welcome to the club, and I hope you get this car going so you don't have to get rid of it. Don't be afraid to ask questions and search the forum, there is a lot of good info here and lots of people who know what they are talking about, Good luck.
Welcome to the club.
The battery seems ok I charge it before every time I start it. All the wiring is good. it sounds like it want to come to as puttering start. that's about it.
Well, huh... maybe something with the spark plug wires. Double check them to be sure none of them got crossed up when you changed the head. ITs possible that the distributor maybe off although the timing belt is right on. I think there was a posting about how to install the Distributor and that it needed to be one tooth over or something like that.
