I have do assume this means you have two turbo's sitting around somewhere or you are planning some far more diabolical. I don't know which one is more frightening.

Yup, and if you put a factory spoiler on the car then it covers the Datsun decal entirely...

I'll get my digital camera and post pics to this thread sometime this week. I left the camera in a friend's car.

So what am I going to do with it? Why did I buy it? How much did I pay for it? What problems does it have?

Well, the '85 CA20ET was originally a CA18ET car, so it has CA18ET electronics. SO any spare electronics I might need I have.

The '85 is green over a red car, so still with red engine bay and doorsils, so I was going to repaint it red. This '84 is red, but faded. So either way I gota paint it, but at least if I do use any body panels, the undersides and little crevices will match lol. The rear bumper on the '85 is rippled beyond repair, and the front bumper on the '84 is torn a bit at the driver side corner, so between the two cars I can make the body complete. I have all the trim pieces I could ever need, and the '84 even has the "NISSAN" emblazoned ground effects. I also have that brand new in the OEM wrapper and box TURBO foam spoiler, still supple, to put on the car, and the clearcorners I got from "madscientist" a couple years back (he's a member in Okinawa who we haven't seen much of in the past year).

The interior of this '84 is superior to the '85, and both seats match, whereas the '85 has a weird rigged in seat. It's pretty comfortable actually, and all the dash air controls work, there's a working and pretty reliable generic cd player in there, that doesn't seem to skip at all, and al the interior panels are tight. Someone painted the center console black and redid the door sils with new black vinyl to get rid of the cracked tan stuff. I'll have to take some pics of that, too, since some of you (Marvin) wanted to know how to do this. I know it's been done before, I think Bart has also done this too. It works out well and gives you a choice of colors when you do it.

The '85 has a full turbo-back 2.5" exhaust with a mangaflow race series muffler, like Bart's, so that will get cut just before the cat, just after the cat, and at the axle, and removed (since cutting is the only way to remove an exhaust built right on the car). I'll use a magic marker to mark the cuts before cutting, so I can clock them properly when I reinstall them on the '84. I'll weld on flanges and it will now bolt on and off in a pinch, as well as a testpipe.

The cone filter adapter (one I made before Bart offered his excellent products), the airflow meter (I painted it gloss black, looks awesome), and the matching chrome duel-surface cone filter and heat shield will come off of the '85 and onto this '84, along with the nicer turbo intake snorkel that is now on the '85... the '84's is ugly. The '85 has a cleaner fan shroud, I'll be using that instead. The '85 also has a spankin' new looking valve cover, the '84's is totally cruddy, so it will get swapped too.

And of course, the 16x8" Primax Euro Platinums wheels and tires will come off the '85 and go on this car. Unlike the '85, the '84 DID however come with the nice premium wheels, and I'll just put them back on the other chassis for now.

So basically I'll be taking all the nice clean and suped up goodies off the '85 and putting them on this '84. But why did I do this tho? Why buy it?

Well to begin with, it's not like there are that many CA18ET S12's out there for sale around here. And this was up for $500. BAM, I knew I had to have it. I wanted to get FAR AWAY from the CA20ET engine, and return back to the more reasonable compression in the CA18ET. Well here was my chance.

Turns out it runs pretty good. I think it has a minor boost leak at the gasket on the turbo outlet to the airpipe. It seems to bog as I go into boost. Typical. I'll use my nice crinklepainted airpipe from my '85, because I cut off the ugly crappy Nissan fingered coupler and welded on a 2" stick of 2" diameter pipe, and use standard hose couplers now to seal it perfect. That will fix the likely bosot leak. Otherwise it's some other minor tuning issue.

The distributor and plug wires are also new on the '85. I'll bring those over. Basically I will make this into one nice car. It does indeed have a hood bulge, but I still have that one that Sterling gave me as a gift. The one Sterling gave me is silver. Since I want to go two-tone with that same silver color from the center rubstripping and down (like the Gazelle RS-X's), I'll also go with the silver hood bulge too to carry over that color accent. When I do this, I'm having a new rubber gasket cut out of a gasket sheet material to replace the cracked gasket that sits under the hood bulge. Guess what? Once I do this, a pattern is then made, and I can sell you guys new gaskets for those who have bulges. And for those who want them, this will be perfect when cutting open yor hood. What better to use to trace out the cut lines and then to seal the bulge on?

I still have the CA20E intake manifold, so I will indeed swap that on and run an IC the way I wanted to.

So yeah this year should finish up nicely, now that I have a running and solid S12 in my posession, and a very parts-laden car to pick from.

Oh, and incidentally, this means I have all the turbo hardware off the '85 too, including an exhaust manifold to make a flange pattern off of, and a second T2 to use for fitting to a TT manifold. ;)

No it doesn't, not on mine... right above the bumper on the driver side: DATSUN. And above the bumper on the passenger side: by NISSAN 200SX. This is underneath the tail lights.

Really thats un usual...I guess anything is possible, Nissan was on dope in the 80's...lol

If you look closely you can see the blurriness where it says Datsun on the left, and Nissan 200sx on the right. I can see the badging them differently in different areas though...Oh the bluriness under the drivers side taillights I believe is the dealership...

well you have got plenty of work to throw yourself into cant wait to see the finished product ;)

Arrodate not saved · #16

yeah true but it's all little shiit. So shouldn't be a big deal, a couple week's work total, not counting paint time.

sidewaysdate not saved · #17

mine is a 84 and says both nissan and datsun on the rear and has the nissan ground effects

Sorta, lots of dirt roads=tons of fun. It was more dirty, but the rain the previous morning washed most of it off :(. Mr.200 knows how dirty it usually is. and most will be able to see in pics after this comming meet this weekend. It will most likely be really dirty again by them...lol

My 84 CA20E had the exact same badging. Must have been a U.S. only thing.
