Hehehe... I voted CA20ET, but I'm a little bit biased...
Hopefully this won't turn into a flame war like the CA18DET vs. SR20DET threads, but I think that the SR20 is definetly a better starting point than the CA20, but cost comes into factor real quickly in my thinking. I almost got an SR20DE, and then I was kinda glad I didn't, because you don't see too many built up CA's (especially SOHCs) and it's nice to see something different every once in a while.
That's a hard choice, but you figure even the SR20DE's with 5 speeds usually go for around $1000, and the DET's go for $2000-$3500, and I always bring up the point that all that money could go a really long ways on the stock motor, and then you'll have a fresh rebuilt motor instead of a Japanese junkyard motor.
Parts to do the CA20ET are relatively cheap, (I got the wiring harness and ecu for $75) and I know there's some that disagree with me, but I still think that you can fully build up a CA20ET and make MORE power than a stock SR20DET for less money.
But that's the way I see things, since I'm always broke. There's no way in hell I could ever save up $3k for an SR20DET, and although I'd love to, I know it'll never happen...
where can i get a harness and ecu that cheap?
Look in the classifieds and find people parting out turbo cars. Seems like there's a lot of S12's being parted out... :frown:
But it's good for those of us who need stuff...
And hopefully in the next month or so I'll have figured out how to build a bulletproof CA20 bottom end. I've got the rods I'm gonna use, I just need to finish hacking them up so they'll fit...
no no no please not another thread that can have us all ducking for cover :)
