I'm not sure if anybody is familiar with Canadian importation laws, but one law in particular is being greatly used in the past year. It is written that any vehicle, once it reaches 15 years old (to the exact month), can be imported to Canada as a classic/collectors vehicle and does not need to pass any special crash or safety tests. All you do is pay your taxes and get a safety inspection done and it fully legal and ready to drive. Needless to say, we've got boatloads of RHD Skyline's, 300ZX's and CA18DET Silvia's coming to our streets around here.
So here's a thought, track down a FJ20ET S12 and bring it here. :) All S12's now from '84 - '89 (yes, they kept selling them until 1989 in Japan) are legal to import here. Since the S12 is still quite unknown, I'm sure I could get a heck of a deal on it.
I've been bugging the local importation company (www.ImportConcern.ca (http://www.importconcern.ca/)) to try and find me an FJ. Just today their list of available cars was updated with a 1989 Silvia RS-X Coupe with the CA18DET. 56,000kms, no reserve price. ;)

I'm going to hold out though and hopefully one of these days a FJ20ET powered S12 will pop up there for auction. Then I'll just have to figure out a way to make ~$3000 quick to buy it? :dontknow:
Anyone want to donate to the "Buy Dan an FJ" fund?
Trying to import an FJ
This thread was saved without dates. "Around Apr 2005" is estimated from neighbouring threads.
Wow it really looks good... is that a S Silvia badge I see on the grille? Looks really clean though... I wish you could find me one too. Donation for Christmas Dan... watch for it!
Looks clean, i've seen earlier RSX turbos (FJ20ET) ones go for around $5000au under the over 15 year old import rule. Keep looking around and you'll find one sooner or later. Only early model RSX turbos are FJ20et powered so just keep an eye out for the earlier ones.
Here you go Dan, I am not sure if they still have it you should check it outhttp://www.importbitz.com/body.htm
Apart from being in oz i believe that car to have been sold quite some time ago, probably almost a year.
I knew it was in Oz I was thinking maybe that shop would import it for him then he could buy it from them, if it hadnt already been sold. ;)
Much much cheaper to get straight from japan, the car is $5k landed here which is what you'd expect to pay to land one in canada, if it came to oz first then went to canada the price of the car would probably close to double. Most of the cost is in the transport and tax etc. I don't expect that car would have cost over $1200au to actually buy in japan.
Exactly. Buying something from Australia is possible, but very expensive. Plus the importer has connections set up in Japan to take care of all the exporting business, whereas they would not in Australia. I would have to figure everything out myself, find a way for the owner of the car to take it to a shipping yard for me, etc.
all the cars from import concern come through vancouver before going to edmonton ;) ehhehe
having a rs-x may be fun...hmm....
Dan, you could call for a massive donation to the board by everyone ($5 to stay on the board), and skim the top off the top? ;)
This is something I've been thinkin about for a while...
I've spent a nice little chunk of change on my S12 and it's still not finished. Almost enought to buy a FJ.
The only issue I see is getting parts for it. It would suck to have to order a oil filter from Oz every three months.
Guys from the land down under....is there part stores that carry the basics?
all the cars from import concern come through vancouver before going to edmonton ;) ehhehe
New Westminster, B.C. Yep. And they don't even bring them to Edmonton automatically anymore. You have to choose where you want the car shipped to once it lands in B.C. It's like $490 to Regina by train.
Dan just make sure Indy doesn't get it on its way to you ;) *lol*
well if you are worried about oil filters and stuff i get mine from a nissan dealership.my neighbor works for one and he gets them for me.i can get whatever i need for my fj from him.
Wow, I gotta say if you (Dan) picked up an RS-X, you'd become the hero for all us Canadian who long for the FJ (or better yet, in my case a S12 all together!). All I say is that pictured car above would be fantas-tic!
why on earth would anyone want a CA18DET?
probably the worse and shittest engine on the planet,
suffers from continual bottom end problems and is one shit hole
every 200sx S13 in UK has bottom end problems, shows what a cack engine it is,
piece of shit
Um, we were talking about an FJ, not the CA18DET...
And I'm willing to bet that there's a lotta guys who will disagree with you anyway. Why are you trying to start a bunch of junk today?
wasn't he banned on the old site?
Well I can see why if he was... LOL...
nah he wasn't banned I think he just left for a while. Why he's back I don't know perhaps we could have some entertainment before he http://battleboards.org/ipb/html/emoticons/gtfo2.gif
what brings you back anyways?
He seems to act like Monty...at least he hasn't come back since we told him to FO if he wasn't going to help...
But seriously, what does the CA18DET have anything to do with an FJ??? and why do you want to start an argument over it. I do not believe anybody who has swapped a DET into a S12 has had ANY bottom end problems, so it would appear to me that you have just put out a bunch of mis leading rumours; something else we don't want/need here. Now if you have evidence to substantiate anything about what you said, please no not add it here, as this thread has nothing to do with the DET!!!
Go for it dont worry too much about parts as they are pretty much common with a lot of other nissans,my oil filter is the same as some toyotas fords volvos nissans etc etc.
The only bits you would need to import are engine internals though a lot should be available in the states and canada such as rings pistons and bearings, you just have to look.
