I know this isn't really a performance minded swap but I was talking to some friends and my curiosity is peaked. I am looking mostly at the fact that I have to drive all over eastern KS for work and friends. If I'm not doing that I am constantly going to denver/columbia/st.louis/chicago/and more for concerts/fun. I NEED BETTER MPG!!! While in the long run its prob going to be easier to just by an old rabbit or jetta I thougth I would ask around here and see what people know of diesel engines and how hard it might be to put one into an S12? I've seen many nissan diesel engines on ebay but I don't know what they originally came in? Any helpful info or informational site would be great. thanx

Diesel

It would be a lot of work and have absolutely no power, but if you want to try it maybe you should find a CD17 from an early 80's Sentra.
I was origonally looking at the old VW 1.5 becuz in the late 70's/early 80's they had one car (dasher) that used it in a RWD application. But I think that is going to be a little hard to find. When I searched nissan I came up w/ these engines... (4cyl)
LD20
LD20II
SD25
???I just don't know much about them, including what vehicles they origonally came in??? I'm not really worried about power other than it has to have enough to go 85 on the highway, it just has to get good gas mileage. like I said any info would be great. thanx
i think u are asking the wrong crowd man.
but the diesel is a good idea for MPG and all................how about a turbo diesel?? mmmmmmmmm turbo :)
good luck with it, try some other forums for trucks or somthin.
Yah a turbo diesle from a rabbit would not be bad. I drove one, and it is not as gutless as a turboless counterpart...Or you could always try putting in a Cummins turbo diesel from a Dodge Ram.......I doubt it woulf it though...8)
Just stuff a Cummins turbo desiel in there? These things can pull hell off the cross!
Damn, what would 500 Ftpounds of torque do to an S12's body. Would't that twist the hell out of the car. I can see it now, instant orcadian. Watch this......stomps on gas, turbo spools up....boom goes the back window as the frame twists. You know something will break under that much stress, just a matter of what and when. Damn thaat would be cool.
thanx guys I know this is an odd question but I thougt maybe some of you guys might have trucks you use to haul around cars and what not??? I have looked at some of the 6cyl engines but they look REALLY long and I'm not shure about fitment. Some one on another board suggested a 5cyl from a mercedes??? Who knows???
If a RB fits in an S12, so will the L28D from the 910-chassis Maxima (80?-85).

Nissan put a diesel motor in a Maxima?
Nissan put a diesel motor in a Maxima?
yeah you can use this crank with some flattop pistions in a l28 and have a super stroked l28 motor
For chrissakes, an RB DOES NOT FIT! Now we are breeding urban legends which are leading some of you to think an L-series six will fit?!?! NO!

Yup thats why my Cummins suggestion was a joke...that engine would NEVER fit in our cars, too long, too tall, and too wide with the turbo...
Like Arro said; we have SEEN NO evidence to suggest that the RB will fit in the S12, and until we do, we can assume that it CAN'T...
