had a customer offer me his vehcile tonite, $150. 1993 Nissan Maxima. vg30e. 204xxx miles, trans slips, wheels bent a little. "driveable". I thought about getting it, and taking out the motor, and parting out the rest. thoughts?

for $150?! you better take that thing!

I say pull the trans, rebuild it and sell it...

those things still go for approx $4-5G's

IF AC doesnt work redo that too, u work/own a shop right? so it should actually turn into a money maker...

i work in a tire shop, want to own a shop someday, and have the will to work on cars as i wanna learn about everything there is to know...

Buy it, my parents have an 89 maxima and its VERY VERY FAST it has over 240000 miles on it and still runs strong. For a $150 thats seems like a good deal, just rebuild the transmission get it running good. Then go out smoke the riced out civics, then wouldnt expect it. :slap:

I've been in one that had lowering springs and 17" three piece wheels, it hung the corners like it was on rails, and it hauled azz. for 150 I would buy it if you wouldnt.

I thought the 93's came with the VQ30DE or something like that?

Anyway, yeah buy it if you got the money and the time to work on it! That's the thing, I come across cheap cars all the time, I'm just running out of space to keep them all! The real trick is actually fixing them...

I think only the SE model got the VQ. For $150, I would take the car in a heartbeat. How's the condition of the exterior/interior? I'm currently looking at getting a '91 for $500. Just has some auto trans slippage.

P.S. - Anyone who says that a basically stock Maxima is very, very fast, has never been in a very, very fast car. :p

LOL,.. but probably compared to a CA20E S12 it is very very fast

Haha, yeah. Compaired to the CA20E yeah. But you can't doubt that price. I would get it. Hopefully it lasts enough in that S12 of yours.

I think only the SE model got the VQ.In the 3rd gen Maxima (up to 1994), the SE model got the VE30DE. A variable-cam timing, DOHC engine which apparently had a lot of troubles and people who have them need to do a lot of maintenance to keep them running. It was really fast though if it worked right.

The all-aluminum VQ30DE appeared in 1995 for the 4th generation.

Geeze people ragging on the CA20's again *lol*...They're not that slow (compared to a stock CA18ET) ... :slap: *lol*

after xmas, if its still availible, its mine. heres the plan. im gonna see just how bad the tranny is. if its shot to all hell, ill just part the entire car out. I will take the motor, and seeing as how its the same block as my s12 (love interchangable motors!) ill rebuild it to my 300HP. dont hate...IF for some reason i cant get it, ill put up some pics (if i can get them), and have someone here get it. that way, it'll be taken care of.

are old Maximas RWD?
The old first gen ones might be rwd (early 80's). My old '77 810 with L28 z motor was rwd....and the 810 nameplate was replaced with "Maxima" in the early '80s. I believe 2nd gen on became fwd.
All models for 4th gen came standard with VQ30DE

Jsvob03date not saved · #16

ill go looking it up, but can you define fourth generation? (like the years they were made)

4th gen...............1995-1999
