Lately there have been people asking me questions about the S12. Like what motors are available, what years, and what is the aftermarket like. I give them all the info on what they want, and as soon as I say "almost NO aftermarket" they get REALLY discouraged.
I think ppl are wanting to try something different, because of the scarcity of AE86's, S13's and S14's.
Rumor has it that a guy that lives on the Island of Maui, wants to start building an S12. He currently runs some REALLY low times with an SR'd 510.
When I posted my car for sale on the local forums, I had a CRAP load of PM's asking for appt's. Now to think of it, seeing how people may start running S12's I think I'm gonna keep this car for quiet sometime. Who cares if I'm in a financial bind...cant give something up that I may later totally regret! haha
What about u guys, anyone around where u live starting to show some interest in our cars? Hell maybe in the next few years, we may have a CRAP load of aftermarket support!! Now who's down for that? hehe
I think WE made a statement

I'm definitely seeing and hearing about more and more S12s around my area...all those bastards have turbos....so they're uninterested in MY car tho..lol
I definitely think that the S12 is moving up in the ranks.
if all goes well, soon you can tell those people that there are lowering springs for a good price out :D
I've noticed.....ever since I had that Silvia decal made for the rear. Now I always get asked questions about it, pretty much everytime when I get gas or go to a store.....kinda cool, but kinda annoying too...when i'm in a hurry!

i think you are right, I wanted an 86 real bad, but couldnt afford the £5000 average asking price! now an 86 is good but not great at drifting, yep its 200 kg lighter than an s12 and it comes with a LSD as standard, but these things can be sorted out!
As soon as people realise how close an s12 is to an AE86 there is going to be a rush! im certain of it. The biggest advantage s12 has is that it has a very tourquey turbocharged engine that is cheap as chips to modify and squeeze more power out of (200hp is not unachieveable with scrapyard parts)
Lightened, with an s13 lsd and pushed to 200hp, all for under £1000, who the hell needs an 86?!?!?
BTW, I think they look VERY similar too, look at my car compared to a Trueno!

Hang on to yer S12's chaps!

yea man, I read yer post! PLEASE dont fall out of this!! We really need some springs made, and scince I am keeping my car, I would deffinetly love a set! expecially in those spring rates...I used to have the Tokico drop springs, but damn 175lbs didnt cut it, my car would PLOW when goin side to side.
And Keith yea I know it can get irratitng when someone is tryin to chat with u about yer car and u are in a rush to hurry up and GO! haha
Damn, once this car goes mainstream the price on parts are going to start to rise. A couple of people really like my car cause it's "Unoriginal" and I just hope that it doesn't get too big to become the civic of drifting (S13). Well anyways "People grab your cars before the strike hits." ;)
my plan....be the first one to mod the S12 to tits in my area..wait for it to get big...sell it for 10X it's worth and import myself a nice little a RS-X heh
my plan, do what JOEL is doin! and hurry up b4 he finishes! haha
gotta do some bodywork and paint, then make it "drift spec" b4 anyone else has the chance too...

Hahaha, yeah! Sounds like a good plan.
I bet this is the type of threads that were on club-4ag before the ae86 got really big.
lets hope ours gets the same attention...and but all the ricer boys stick to the S13s and AEs

BAHAHAHAHA I like S13's, but that just tickled my funny bone.
Haha... it's somewhat true... anyways remember.

That reminds me, I got my car the same time when you got yours Indi... I remember cause of IDforums.net you posted up your car and I stated that I have the same car but it's Notch and it's White. hah, good times, good times.
I think I'm gonna keep this car for quiet sometime. Who cares if I'm in a financial bind...cant give something up that I may later totally regret!
Haha! Glad to see you're gonna keep it around, I need some KA-S12 buddies to BS with!
But back to your post, I agree with you totally, it's only a matter of time before they get real popular. But on the other hand, it makes me wonder why 1st and 2nd gen Supras aren't real popular either, so maybe we'll stay in obscurity.
I personally wouldn't mind if the S12 didn't go mainstream. I actually like having to figure stuff out for ourselves, and being in uncharted territory. The S12 is definetly not a car you can just throw cubic dollars at and make it nice, you actually have to think out of the box, and work at it.
lets hope ours gets the same attention...and but all the ricer boys stick to the S13s and AEs
Unfortunately, and I think you know it deep down inside, if the car gets popular, there's gonna be plenty of ricer's jumping on the bandwagon, just like the S13's. There's just no way around it.
And that's another reason I like these cars the way they are. This board is truly a special tight-knit group that will definetly not be possible to have again if they go the way of the S13.
Just look at all the S13 and Silvia forums around if you're ready for this car to go mainstream... :guns: :guns:
my plan, do what JOEL is doin! and hurry up b4 he finishes! haha
:evillaug:
just look at it this way boys... if and when s12's become popular(probably never like the ae or s13) that those of us who have been here from the begining are the founders.. we are what will create the lust ofr these cars.... we will be the "elders" and people like me and others who make parts will allow these cars to rise to a whole new level that we would have never imagined 5years ago
Just look at all the S13 and Silvia forums around if you're ready for this car to go mainstream... :guns: :guns:
Well, the old Z has aftermarket support, but you don't see too much of the ricer syndrome on the Z boards I have been a part of...similar story to the 510. Due to the added challenge of dealing with a less-supported older car that doesn't appear in the magazines all the time, maybe the S12 will attract a more mature kind of enthusiast kind of like the S30 Zcar.
I've had a few people ask me if my car's an AE86 so far, but by far the Z gets more attention. People just can't believe that it doesn't have rust holes everywhere...the car looks like crap and yet when I'm driving it, I tend to stop and talk with someone about once a week. Maybe once the S12 looks nicer...
BTW you KA guys may soon have a new buddy :-D

Ahem? Ricer eh? Why I outta....
way to take me out of context :p
yes YOU may be a ricer...but whatever.
I just meant that I hope the ricer kids stick to the cars that they're familiar with now instead of moving on to the S12...
damn traitorous nazi ricer bastard...hahahaha
It'll be great for the guys who sell the parts. But for guys like me who love the uniqueness, it's gonna suck if it becomes too popular. On the otherhand, I wouldn't count on it based on a simple rumor on an internet message board. Let's keep our heads about us (head for those of you with 4cyls).

i agree with you on that one. nowadays, i get people asking me questions about my sr5 pretty much whenever i drive it out of my neighborhood, and let me tell you... it gets annoying. quickly.
you guys know the saying... "you get what you wish for."
Personally I would like to see the s12 stay in the shadows. Sure aftermarket support would be great but I like having a car that nobody knows anything about. As far as I know I have the only s12 for about 100kms in any direction. You know when you buy a car and then you start noticing them everywhere, well that hasn't happened with the s12 yet.
You know when you buy a car and then you start noticing them everywhere
I dunno, I keep seeing them on the side of the highway, literally! And not just mine :-\ ...There's a notch that I've driven past these last few days...
I"ve been actually searching the papers here in Hawaii looking for another S12...but they are sooo freakin hard to find FS. I dont even see any broke down no where haha.
they are hard to find. I have seen like 2 red ones and a white one in a city of a million, and I'm on the road all day. The drifting scene isn't that big here yet tho, so all the kids are still trying to make their civics go as fast as possible or have the exhaust touch the ground. Autocross, as far as I can tell, is only just starting to become popular, so drifting and cars like ours are just not really wanted.
I have the club-s12 sticker on my car so people ask me what it is but they always say club-12.org :disgust: because they dont pay attention to the S being there. I always tell them that it is "club-s12.org".
damn traitorous nazi ricer bastard...hahahaha
Wow I can feel the love... *lol*
You know we still love you being here Don 8)
down here it's 200sx country in my town. I just hate when they say it a different car like ae86, s13, prelude, etc. cuz the grill say NISSAN so why are they saying it while still looking at my car? Hmm, doesn't make sense.
It's a 50 50 spilt good that people want to know about our cars but on the other hand we like the shadows here my home town I'm the only s12 that i know of (the other are owned by old people dam it).
it's Import country in my town Nissan,Honda,Toyota,Mazda,Subaru, and so on plus sh$t ford and Holden, again I get people who like my car and other's that laugh at me till I kick there ass though it would be nice to go laping with another gazelle .

ahhaha saturday at the suspension shop, the guy who was operating the lift was looking up the car as a '86 supra..ahha
Guess he thought it was a MK.II but got confused when I told him it was '86
well it would be nice to have a little aftermarket support. but yeah i really dont want it to be popular. wouldnt be fun confusing people anymore when they ask what it is.
