Convince me why I should get the s12 over the 13...I am going to buy a car and its going to be either of these 2, so help me please? :)

Yes i never knew what the rp meant till today, so i took it out

If you can get a turbo version it would totally own the S13 in power potential. Plus it's cheaper and is able to take any of the engine swaps the s13 can.

What's the RP for anyway in RPS13

I was going to buy a s13 but when i found mine it was cheaper and rarer,s13 silvias are becoming very common in aus and I wanted to be different.Plus it had a fj20et so that sort of made my mind up.

It's really your choice but i see where you are coming from im deciding to get another s12 coupe instead of a RPS13. There arent that many aftermarket parts for S12's and tons for S13's so if ur looking for an easy upgradeably car S13 but if ur willing to take the time an s12 plus i just got really attached to s12's. If you live in america tho s13 (240SX) is a bit underpowered compared to the silvia 180sx

I am one of the unfortunates living in america... these cars are scarce. Like you said, everybody has a s13... Plus this s12 I am looking at is being sold by the original owner, very clean, very immaculate, all service records kept, been garaged, etc... I am going for a ca18det swap :burnout:
I was already going to do this with a s13 but you can't find decent ones... And i'd like to own a rare car :RTFM: As of now I'm still doing my research, hopes are high and the s12 looks good

R = Hatchback/Fastback
P = SR20DET

I think P = a 2 litre motor...cause in the S12 series, P = ca20e

so, an S13 you buy fromt he states will either be an HS13(ka24e coupe), RHS13(ka24e fastback), MS13(ka24de coupe), RMS13(ka24de fastback)

there's also KMS13(ka24e coupe with superhicas, Canadian market only) or KRMS13(ka24de coupe with superhicas, Canadian market only).

RPS13 is the post 1994 180sx as far as i remember. I can't see any reason to get a S12 over one of them they are quite nice. My SR20DET came from a RPS13.

you are correct sir...

only 94+ S13s got the SR20DET. the others got CA18DETs which have no letter designation in the chassis code(like the ca18et for the s12)

i would go the S12... they are prob dont weigh as much and not many ppl know what they are... so if your going to do a CA swap (u will love it) and ppl see this car scraming around going psst ppppsst they wonder what it is and remember it more :)

If you want a race car, the S13 is the best. Suspension is better, more coilover options, easier to tune suspension to your driving style (sway bars, castor rods, camber fixs, strut bars....)! LSD diffs grow on trees.

S12 you need to do more to get the same result you would in half the time in the S13... example brakes, S13 gearbox, Diff, Fuel pump, front coilovers.

If you want parts cheaper and easier go the S13. If you want something different the S12 is the go.

Sorry that's not true, the transition to the SR20DET was made in 1990. 1988 to 1989 model 180sx's were RS13s and silvias were just S13. 1994 marked a facelift in the 180sx range and the dropping of the S13 silvia shape to make way for the S14 silvia. Post 1994 S13 SR20DETs are black topped like S14 motors but are basically the same as the early redtop S13s (there are some minor differences in ECU's etc, power etc stayed the same).

They don't usually weigh very much but then again neither do S13 silvias with no options, my S12 with full options and SR weighs only a few kgs (1260kg) off a fully optioned 180sx (which at 1280kg weighs a little more than a silvia generally). It is true that no one will know what it is though, most will mistake it for a exa or whatever...

The P in RPS12 stands for CA20, and for the CA18ET the P is left out.....RS12
Not sure about what it stands for in a S13 though
