What kinda benefit will you get from using polyurethane bushings/end links as listed here: http://www.club-s12.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1248 ?

little less body roll since the sway bar will be able to do what it was intended to do

As Bart said, as far as the endlinks go, yes.

The real gain here is the control arm bushings being polyurethane. These will tighten up the ride quite a bit and help control body roll as well. The endlinks being polyurethane will help the sway bars do their job, but what is exciting there is that the control arm bushings are poly, too. I should get a set of those icon_smile.gif

I just use the universal ones for my from and rear end links.

I don't remember if I used the stock spacers and I don't have the stock # with me.

Performance Suspension Technologies has a front end kit for the 280Z, and as we share the same front suspension (don't we?) you should be able to get the kit. It's like $150.

Though most of our suspension is based on the 280ZX the control arms are nothing alike. Our control arms are more like a smaller 300ZX 84-86 Z31 arm. I know for fact you can swap in an 84-86 Z31 arm if you have the acompaning strut rod. I believe it is possible to swap in a 280ZX arm if the same model sway bar will fit (though this is really just speculation). 2 ideas for some one who REALLY wants urethane arm bushings up front.

I have a set of Z31 arms sitting around here some were. The bushings are not the same. The 280ZX is the one I'm not sure about.

I talked to a local frame shop just now and he said that it's "typical" for dealers not to carry front control arm bushings because it is hard to install them without damaging them. Supposedly, they're not a very good "candidate" for replacement. It seems strange to me though that nevertheless, prothane sells a kit for the 300zx which includes front control arm bushings (i have it right here as part of the master kit!!). And if the front is so hard, what about the rears? What makes them any different from the front? It sounds like the frame shop might just be trying to justify their laziness when it comes to helping me out here.

The frame shop recommended that I run the car as it is, and if I just can't stand it then they'll "find a way" to replace them for me. I'm sure he means an OEM replacement though. Maybe he'll purchase the arms and press off the bushings and press them onto mine... then he'll return the arms to the dealer, saying they're an incomplete part. I'm just speculating. Sorry to go post happy here guys, but I really want to pry at this issue from every angle possible. As cheesy as it sounds, we've got to put our brains together if we want to make these S12s handle well. I'm just not the kind of person who gives up easily.

EDIT: i made a long enough post to start a new page here... if you haven't seen them, go back to page 2 and read the other posts that in made in the last 30 min =)

just so you guys know... the Z31 master bushing kit has lots of useful stuff for us.

Sway bar bushings + end links
Front strut rod bushings (yes, Z31 front strut rod bushings!)
Rear control arm bushings

I haven't tried the front control arm bushings, but I have a feeling that if the strut rod bushings match, then control arms may as well. It's weird, considering that we have the 280ZX front suspension. I will warn you guys though that the Z31 end links need some parts from your old end links, and that the sway bar bushings are slightly tight of a fit, but they work.

so I guess that kills the dream for front control arm bushings. icon_cry.gif while I'm here, let me warn you guys that you will probably need a front-end alignment after you change the bushings. i definitely do now.

i changed my struts at the same time but i believe that only effects camber if anything. the tc rod bushings affect toe and caster if i understand correctly. you may need to shim your tc (tension-compression) rods or remove existing rod shims to align the car after swapping to poly tc rod bushings. the alignment shop will do this for you.

I've been waiting on some pix from michael about that. In theory it wouldn't be that hard but you'd prob have to change the pivot point and I'm not sure what that would do to the general geometry of the front suspension?
