Anyone know the size of the nut and bolt head that holds the lower control arm on? I'm asking because I have replacements sitting here in my garage and from what i can tell the nut/bolt head is quite large. I think the biggest metric wrench i have is 26mm and i'm pretty sure its bigger than that. Anyone ever deal with this? If so what size was it?

lower control arms
Hi Alan
I don't know the size of the bolts on the lower control arms, but was wondering where you got them and what kind of money they ran you? I need to either replace mine or get aftermarket bushes to fit, and was quoted ludicrous money from Nissan for the control arms 6 years ago, so just wondered where you got yours from and how much they cost you.
Thanks icon_biggrin.gif

now are we talking about the fr or rr and if rear do you mean the nut that holds the hub in place or where its attached to the crossmember..i believe both places up front and rear use 17mm nuts and bolts

in the front they 22mm for the bolt but I'm not sure about the nut. pretty sure I just used an 8 in cresent wrench for the nut. I just had to pull the front suspension on my parts car (88 SE). hope this helps
PS - I might have a spare set of front control arms you could buy? oh and if you were talking about the rear MSA sells a urethane bushing set for like $120. its for a Z31 but all the rear control arm bushings are the same.

Excellent, thank you very much for that Alan 2thumbs.gif
And thank you for the offer Jeff icon_biggrin.gif , I think I will just get them from Nismo though as I want one of their eurocams too, so can get both and use credit card with is way easier for international orders, but again thanks for the offer 2thumbs.gif
Is very ironic, Nismo charge almost £800/$1300 less than my nearest Nissan dealer quoted 6 years ago icon_eek.gif

If it helps any one... Moog makes replacement Ball Joints & Bushings If you don't want to replace the whole arm.
Ball Joint - k9097 - $25.99ea
Control Arm bushing - k9337 - $11.99ea
Those prices are at www.carparts.com and I'm pretty shure they are cheaper than when I had to buy them.

I just found out if you talk to the MSA guys you can buy the Z31 bushing kit in pieces if you want. It includes...
(as a whole the kit sells for $140)
Front:
control arms
strut rods
end-links
Rear:
control arms
end-links
you MUST specify a you have an 84-86 Z31 atleast for the strut rods and maybe the rear control arms. I have heard the 280ZX strut rod bushings work too ($17 ea) if you want to try them. Aslo if you would like to use urethane endlink on the rear sway-bar, uses theirs! MANY companies think the front and rear endlinks for our cars are the same, THEY ARE NOT!

just my 2 cents. i have used moog parts before. the entire chassis in the el camino is made of mood components and they are top of the line when it comes to rubber replacements. if you dont want the harsh ride of the poly bushings, i would go moog in a heart beat again
(just if someone was curious on how moog's product quality was)

I've read that you and at least one other person did the autozone end links successfully. I'm trying to decide whether to get the RSA Z31 master bushing kit and use the end links in there, or just get the control arm bushings. I'm most likely going to get the RSA kit. It has end links and the price is lower now. No one's actually done that yet right? I'll be able to help you guys find out what bushings we can use from there too. Should I post this in another topic?

May be too late since you ordered, but Addco makes poly endlink kits for the S12.....Pep Boys carries them. I think I paid about $30 for both front, and rear kits.
