As per usual, Nissan Australia stuffed us around again... for a bit. bonk.gif

Offically:
Until 1986, all Gazelle's had live rear end and drums at the back.
Oct 1986, they did an update, called SGL. All cars then came with IRS and all discs, electric everything...

However, mine dosen't fit that info (built Jul '85, has IRS and discs, but only has elec. mirrors), so I got no idea what the hell is going on with that! dunno.gif

But I'm guessing gazelle_Power84 is running an '84 LX rear end with drums.

Doubt it....

I was hoping the dato Z series (ZX in particular) would have same IRS setup as ours, to replace my stub axle with one from them, but they are different. icon_sad.gif

I recon there would be too much engineering to get it to fit to be worth your while. So unless gazelle_Power84 has slipped up, he's got one weird change-over model! Well, at least its individual! icon_rolleyes.gif

mines an 84 with a solid rear and drums. I'm looking at doing a similar conversion that radracer did but i'm having a bit of trouble finding the parts. once i've got it all worked out and done I should be able to give u a rough quote.

gazelle_Power84Oct 2, 2003, 8:07 pm · #15

hmmm? unless you're racing (not just stoplight racing) rear disks are *marginally* better than drums. hardly worth changing out for performance reasons. now for looks... how much that's worth is much more subjective. icon_smile.gif

gazelle_Power84Oct 6, 2003, 9:15 pm · #17
icon_biggrin.gif I'm going for looks at the same time better Performance.

Alright here's the facts on Aust delivered s12's as per Nissan w/shop manual technical updates.

Cars manufactured for delivery to Aust. after March 1985 were ALL IRS, regardless of whether GL or SGL etc. And they were all disc rear end, as per the official technical update from Nissan for this time
I have seen earlier live axle cars that have been converted to IRS using a skyline RM30 or earlier skyline C210 IRS setup, some of these are drum brake, I'd say you have a converted car, not an original IRS car, hence the drum brakes.

gerrybgOct 13, 2003, 6:14 am · #19

okay if your car is actually 4 link and not iRS converting to disc is relatively simple, I've done it before to one of these.
Find a series 3 910 bluebird with disc brake rear end e.g. TRX.
Pull the whole axle out with the discs and it will swap straight over, (make sure you also get the 4 axle retaining nute as they are longer}. Also get the brackets for the flexible lines. Shorten your solid lines, just cut them and take them to a brake place and have them reflared and your done.

gerrybgOct 13, 2003, 6:28 am · #20

SG = standard appointments, SGL = standard apointments + luxury extras

All Aust Gazelles from 84 to end 87/88 could be had in either of these levels.

gazelle_Power84Oct 14, 2003, 10:03 pm · #21

thanx man I was told by a friend that you could the skyline but I wanted to see if anyone else had done thats all thanx again man .

You could try a 280ZX S130 for a conversion? I remember when i had to replace my rear rotors on my gazelle that the 280ZX shared the same discs, so it may well share the same suspension?

bartc_jNov 6, 2003, 4:01 pm · #23

dont know if you guys got the z31 but the rear is identical and actually slightly larger rotors and calipers.. that bolt right up

I've got an 85 gazelle hatch, power nothing, luxury nothing either lol an a live axle n drums. I cant confirm this, but I've been informed that the S13 after market suspension fits, an there for the S13 brake would too, if you wanted to upgrade you have more options there. The S13 have a whole lot more shit avaliable than the S12. Peace
