well the stock clutch is basically useless now that installed the t25... before it would only slip under load... now it slips under any amount of boost...
so time for a new clutch
now i picked up a dynomax clutch kit for 80 bucks just cause it was so damn cheap... but im thinking the most ill get out of it is like 20K (planning on running this as a track car) so what does everyone recomend.. ive been looking at the centerforce clutches and they are way more expensive and im wondering if you guys think it will be worth the extra coin?

Go to your local clutch and brake shop and have them build one for you.
These are the same people that build clutchs and brake linings for big trucks and heavy epuipment.
They should be able to build a clutch to your specs. And cheaper too!!! icon_cool.gif

I don't honestly know ... I'll snap some pics of it, as it's not in the car yet.
I had a friend over at Speedy Brake & Clutch do it for me. I called him originally to see if he could get me a name brand one for cost ... so he told me my options, or "we could make you a clutch that can handle anything for under $100 for the kit."
Other than him telling me it was a 5 puck and would take whatever I want to throw at it, I was sold ...

Who exactly should I talk to about having a clutch built? I'm doing ok at the moment, but I'm afraid as soon as I start upping the boost, I'm going to be slipping horribly. Anyone know if any other Nissan's use the same size flywheel? Like a 300zx or a 240sx or something? Just curious.
Thanks!

i would go with wacumuk says!.. Go with the CA18DET clutch.. or anyway if its easy to find where you are.. i boght an used CA18DET clutch from a friend and it holds up for my torch figures.
The stock CA18ET clutch cant hold up when you tune the car.. had a brand new CA18ET clutch and it held 2weeks with my new engine.. so.. just crap. and the CA18ET clutch is more expensive then the CA18DET if you buy nissan orginal.. (its that way in sweden anyway.)..
Good luck with the clutches.

Bart -o, got the rest of the info, pics to follow. It's too dark indoors for my digicam, and with the sun setting while I'm at work, getting pics is a pain in the ass ... Just ask Mimms. I'm still trying to get pics of my 1G BOV install.
But the clutch is a Dynapack built on a KA24E spec (slightly larger diameter) and in fact is a 6 puck clutch with 5 springs on the pressure plate (not 5 puck like I thought). Supposed to be 3 times the holding and will lock up to 9,800 rpm. I haven't seen my original (still in the car *lol*) but the guy at the counter said the 240 units are only a 4 spring pressure plate.

it is the same thing as a "puck" They will hold great amounts of force, but "here we go again" that is not a good "street" setup. This type of disc has a big problem with heat, the type you get from slipping the clutch to get a smooth start or shift. It is made for either engaged or disengaged and nothing inbetween.
A puck type clutch is what the big trucks and large farm tractors use. AKA let the clutch out and then push the throttle.

hrmm.. good thread i guess. cause i have to do a clutch right now.... i think the pressure plate is busted, it wont disengage. but i do have a silvia turbo that i was eventually going to put on. so if the stock clutch wont hold, i'll need something that will hold and hopefully it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Really i just need a stronger pressure plate and stock disc, shouldn't be a problem.
i don't think we can get ca18det clutch setups here in the states. almost ready to register the 200sx and start driving it!
anybody know where i can get the flanges for the t25 turbo? the 2bolt inlet and 3 bolt outlet on the compressor housing?
Thanks
Wing
Yeah, this is not a clutch for the feint hearted, or those of you that enjoy "slipping" the clutch.
In fact I drove my friend's 240 with the exact same setup installed. And I stalled it about 5 times trying to get it out of the parking lot.
Drifting is a whole lot easier though icon_twisted.gif
Just think of the puck style as an on/off switch, and the others as a dimmer switch.

this is way off topic. keep it on topic please these are the turbine housing flanges, if you needed them as well.

yeah, it also depends on the material you choose
Organic is a lot cheaper
The one I got is semi
and there's a more expensive one that's carbon

I have a 1986 200sx turbo. I recently replaced my turbo and open up my exhaust. My clutch was slipping before the turbo upgrade but afterwards really got worse. Like a fool I went to pep boys and had them replace the clutch. They used a LUK original clutch set. When I picked up my car I immediately noticed a vibration that was worse from 10-30mph and gradually got better as my speed increased but never went away. I also could not shift into 2nd gear after about 1mile from the store. I took it back. I picked up the car the next day and it shifted smoothly but the vibration was still present. I took it back again. They could not find the problem but told me that it had nothing to do with the clutch install. I strongly disagreed. Finally a manager told me to take my care to a transmission shop and if they found the problem to be the clutch install that Pep boys would pay to fix it. I took my car to a transmission shop. At first he was sure that my problem was going to Pepboys in the first place but after inspection found nothing wrong with the clutch installment but thought the problem was the center driveshaft bearing. After changing the bearing the vibration was much better but still there. Can anyone help me with this problem. Please. The car runs fantastic now but the vibrations spoil the ride.
Well this maybe a little off topic, but are we to assume that your car had no vibration before the clutch job? Check, or change, your tranny fluid first. Now this next thing to check may seem way out there. It is posible that the driveshaft halfs were not reassembled in the same location that they came from the factory. If the driveshaft was built as balanced unit an reassembled 180 out, it could vibrate. Check the u-joints too.

Did they resurface the flywheel?

No. There was no vibrations like this prior to the clutch installation I'll check the drive shaft. I don't think the flywheel was resurfaced. Could that cause a vibration even when the car is coasting out of gear? The u-joints are ok according to the transmission shop. The center bearing was changed. I don't know. I'm just kind of getting tired of things going wrong with this car. It may be my fault. I'm the original owner and most of the repairs I have done myself because a quality cheap repair shop is hard to find. Pepboys did the clutch job for $300 including the new clutch. I guess you get what you pay for. The car runs better than new now with the new turbo, exhaust, cone filter, and boost controller but this vibration spoils it all. Thanks for the advice.

yes, a bad flywheel surface could make a big difference.
But if you're getting a vibration at speed ...
Have the driveshaft checked
Have your wheels balanced
I lost a wheel weight on my Charger and chased a vibration for 4 months.
Having a fast car that tries to shake itself to pieces over 50 mph is enough to drive you insane

It sounds like a driveline problem, or wheels. thinking to self "What was removed and reinstalled during clutch job. Now what to check? Tranny mount? Make sure the axle bolts and flanges are tight. Dent in driveshaft!?? I hope they didn't drop the tranny. Is the tranny bolted up to the engine right? Tire balance, do this first. It's cheaper and easier."
