Toe (out)

I've noticed that me stearing has a fairly (1-1.5") large dead spot in the middle and it's taking too many turns to go lock-to-lock (supposed to be 3.1 but it's more like 3.9). Do you think some idiot has got this thing set-up with toe-in? The manual says it should be between 0mm and 2mm toe-in. I'm thinking that it must be set on the 2mm in setting then. Now here is my question: I'm going to be using the car for a fair amount of spirited driving and maybe a bit of autocross. Could it be assumed that I could have it set-up with up to 2mm toe-out without seriously wreaking my tyres if I wanted a fast turn it and was willing to sacrifice the straight line stability? I think I'm gonna try and adjust it myself this weekend and see how it handles afterword (I'll do it a little at a time and test in between.)
Thanks,
Grant

If you can find some steering arms off a S12 RS-X they are shorter and this gives the fronts more travel for the same steering.

Toe out will help with turn in, but you will wear the inside of the tyres on the road.

Your steering rack my be loose in it's mounts. I had the same problem with mine. What is happening is that when you turn the steering wheel the rack must first slide until it stops, only then will it start turning. Also, the rack bushing may be worn out. Check the tie rod ends too.

We chacked everything and there was pretty much no slop as well as when I actually counted it was just over 3 turns lock-to-lock which leads me to believe that the next thing I should look at is getting an alignment done and asking for just a little bit of toe out.

P.S. This is for an S110 so I doubt the RS-X arms would work.

You would do better putting it back to factory specs rather than toeing it out.

Sever toe in = rather darty ( not good for beer drinking and drivin)
Sever toe out = sluggish (once again, not good for beer drinkin and drivin)

Have the car aligned to the factory specs. Much safer and much better. (this is a good setup for beer drinkin and drivin) icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif

You got it backwards, toe-out makes it darty. But I think I'm just gonna leave it so I can sell the car and get something else, the lack of aftermarket support for the S110 make it sort of a lose-lose situation keeping it. But thanks anyway.

Hey
I have a coupe would the rsx steering arms improve my handling?

MichaelNov 13, 2003, 12:52 pm · #9

It will make it turn much quicker.
