As far as I know, the addco sway bars for my 1985 ca20e w/irs are the same diameter as my stock ones. Am I wrong? And if they are the same diameter, then what gives them their advantage? Are they built with stiffer metal or something? And is Addco still taking direct single orders, or will I need to be part of a group buy for them to produce an S12 sway bar?

ADDCO sway bar performance gain?
If they are the same diameter it is probably just a sells pitch. You might notice a very slight gain considering that the bars on your car are 18 almost 19 years old and your wallet is lighter icon_biggrin.gif

On my car, they were an 1/8" or so larger. They did make a noticable difference, you will need to get them in pairs, and you can get them from Summit Racing. I have gone over all of this in a thread already, just run a search. The best handling mod would be stiffer springs and sport shocks, that will make the car feel completely different. A decent set of sticky tires will make a world of difference as well.

The best handling mod for any car is driver preference. Some prefer a soft ride with big bars, and others prefer a harsh ride with little or no bars. It all depens upon the person driving the car.

even if the diameters of the stock and aftermarket bars are the same the aftermarket bars will probably perform differently because the way a sway bar performs isn't only dependent on the thickness. the shape, whether or not they're hollow, and the length of the arms also affects the overall performance. look up the whiteline's suspension site and read through the tech stuff. you'll learn more than you ever cared to know about suspension.
