I think there is a picture in the photo album of the sensor on a us spec model. Are you disconnecting for testing reasons?
That little bastard ...
I hunted forever trying to wiggle my fingers in to find it. Only when I finally tried pulling the wire to just break it, I discovered the harness for it is on top of the engine, and easy as pie to unclip.
I'm willing to bet you want to get rid of yours, because it's been tripped, and you'd like that 10º of timing back right?
If the detonation sensor code won't reset, the sensor itself has failed. And it's a million times easier to just unhook it than replace it. Cheaper too.

but what will that do if you actually detenate and since you unhooked the sensor it may lead to alot of probs

Thanks for the reply's, I was going to try disconnecting the sensor and seeing if it gave me any more power - managed to literally squeeze an intercooler behind the radiator and make up some intake pipes out of 60mm exhaust pipe and an old cut up S12 intake hose last weekend.hope it all holds together!.
Would also appreciate your advice on spark plugs..I'm using the std ngk BCPR6ES-11 at the moment...is it worthwhile using a cooler running plug with higher boost engine??.. I'm hoping to make maybe 170bhp..is this possible with the std turbo + ic and and stock fuel system?
How much improvement can i expect from a new exhaust system...the std system seems a bit puny..is it worthwhile fitting a 3" dia. exhaust system?
How do I check for detonation sensor codes icon_smile.gif
I don't know that the detonation sensor is all that important at stock boost. Sure, it's a great idea, but if it's broken, it will neuter your car. When I unhooked mine, it felt like I'd doubled in power.
I don't worry about mine now that I have the a/f gauge installed. It's pretty much always rich so ... I ... Neeed .... moreeee .... boooooost!!!
heh, but yeah, we should really sticky this, or put it in the how-to ...
but for checking codes on an ECU (3 lamp and 5 lamp)
I'm getting sick of searching for my own posts ...

If you already know how to check it
34 is the code for detonation sensor.
If you reset the codes (disconnect the battery for a few minutes) and after firing the car up and idling it, you have code 34 again, it's safe to say the sensor is faulty.
If your ca18et is detonating on idle, it would blow as soon as you put it under load ... so.
3" would be a bit big for the T2 (M10). You'd get some really gnarly spiking. Unless you plan to run a big T28 or T3, I'd suggest 2 1/2" no bigger.
170 hp is easily attainable on the stock system. 1 BAR out of the T2 seems to be about the limit for the turbo itself as well as the fuel system. If everything else is up to snuff that should have you at 200hp.

Take out the intercooler, move the radiator back a few inches, and reinstall it. The intercooler will function much better in front of the radiator where it can get cool air as compared to behind the radiator where the hot air from the radiator is all that reaches the intercooler. The intercooler will not be nearly as effective as what it could be if it was in front of the radiator. BTW the HP level you were looking for is within reach, no problem, but move that IC first before you crank up the boost. Air/fuel gauge and EGT (exhaust gas temp sensor) are a good idea if you want to push it.
