i am looking at buying another v6. when i test drove the car i noticed that the shifter had a lot of play, forward and side to side, and i was wondering if replacing the shifter would take care of this or if that is caused by something inside of the trans its self.
its probably just bushings. the\'re made of nylon or something like it. Remove your shift boot and dust cover to gain access to the snap ring at the base of the shifter. Remove the snap ring and the shifter pulls right out and you\'ll be able to see whats shot.
well i gues there is one way to find out if i buy the car
so if i get a new shifter i would want to get one that replaces the bushings too and not just the lever its self i would gues.
From Nissan they\'re not all that expensive. Now the rubber boot for the shifter (not the leather one) is oober expensive.
man, i thought shifter play was something you have to take out the tranny to fix... maybe i should tell my friend to look into this, cuz he has a honda passport with a manual tranny that he dogs like crazy (it has REALLY bad valve/lifter/whatever ticking) and the shifter is almost as floppy as if there was no transmission in there (for any of you have felt a FWD shifter when there\'s no motor/tranny in it)
it\'s not ALWAYS a bushing thing. like if its a linkage type transmission, then there\'s other things to consider.
oooh... i c
I am wondering if anybody tried a direct bolt on of a Datsun 180B SSS gearbox to an S12. I have found one and I want to use it for my S12 rally project as those gearboxes are really tough, have short gear ratio and the 1st gear is down.
This gearbox was attached to an L18 1770cc OHC engine with twin side draught carbs and was pushing out 120hp. I drove this car some years ago and I was amazed with this short ratio gearbox and the power that was developing. Of course the Datsun 180B SSS was build before the Silvia era.
Any tips.
Thanks man appreciate the reply.
