the fj24 came standard with twin 48mm Mikuni carbs.

why bother you say? well the fj24 was rated at 190 PS (metric horsepower) in the manual...pretty respectable for an early eighties NA motor.

a lot of rally guys go this way it seems, as generally they are running up in the high rpm range almost constantly, so carbs will do the job and do it simply.but then you lose drivability elsewhere in the rev range.

it can be a cheaper option than efi though, but you have to weigh up your options, what does a manifold, two carbs, chokes, jets, trumpets, and filters cost? and what are you going to use for ignition (which will also need to be recurved to suit the engine).

you could alway use a sidedraft manifold with fuel injection t/b's which retro fit instead of carbs. you still have to sort out a dizzy though.

depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend really...

I was just curious. I remmeber someone saying the carbs bolt straight onto the head, and as a result, some ITB's fit too. I know EFI is way better. I was just curious because there are many fj20 carbed. I was not 100% sure who was making these manifolds, or what i heard about it bolting straight to the head was true. Either way, EFI or carbs, I don't have the money for

since the fj20 head was designed for EFI, i would go with that. the fj24 undoubtingly was designed from the start to be used with the twin mikuni's

you can do it, it just probably wont make the power you'd be expecting.

there is a FJ20E here in the uk using throttle bodies and it's pushing around the 200mark,
The guy uses it for trace tracing his name is Wayne Schofield,

the carbs wont bolt straight to the head, you still need a manifold to fit the or itb's. although all of the manifolds i have seen are made to run the engine flat rather than the 15 degree slant they normally sit on.

so to run carbs you have to flatten your engine out...
