just got the motor out of myt car. had some small issues with my "rebuilt" t28 so i had to but the stocker back on but my main question is the motor mounts...

What mounts do I use? The ones on the det or the ones on the et? Both have the same mount but different brackets, I assumed you just switch the brackets but they're not the same.

How can I get to the motor mount bolt?

thanks for the help. I'll have pictures soon!

use the ET mounts. With the engines out of the car you can easily access them.

On the DET it's 3 bolts in a triangle, on the ET it's two bolts in a straight line.

The DET has the holes for the ET mounts, no worries.

just a word of warning. When you get her in, it will sit very close to the firewall. So inspect the rear of the engine now BEFORE you drop her in.

I'd suggest rerouting the heatercore lines while the engine is out, and also checking to see that everything in the back is in good condition before dropping it in.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll do that today before i put it in.

I ripped out the ac lines and all the coils from the et last night, I switched the speedo gear from the det to the et. Hopefully the speedo will work.

I assume the heater core hoses connect to the left hand side of the motor? If so, how did you route yours over to the right hand side of the firewall? Go under or over the motor? Not enough room to go behind the motor?

i think all you have to do is remove the hose that runs behine the motor due to firewall clearance. The motor comes from a rhd car so basically all you need (i think) is a straight hose from the back of the motor to the firewall. I'll post up tomorrow for sure

how do you get at the bolt on the bottom of the motor mount to get it off.....lol I cant reach much of anything under there to get atter

KeithMay 25, 2009, 11:04 pm · #9

there are 2 nuts on each bracket....the nuts that connect the motor mount bracket to the motor mount isolator.....if memory serves me correctly they are 12mm nuts. Remove those 4 nuts, and the motor will be free to lift out.

yah I got the motor out....lol I want the motor mounts off....which is just the one nut at the bottom of the bracket which its almost impossible to get at with any wrench/socket

A 14? 17? mm ratcheting stubby wrench supposedly works real well. I just used a rgualr wrench lol

iirc its a 14 mm. use a flex head ratcheting wrench(best option). or a flex head ratchet.

14MM at the engine bracket, 17MM at the crossmember.

Edit:
I think... lol.gif It's been awhile, but the nut on at the crossmember is for sure 17MM.

KustamogenMay 29, 2009, 8:23 pm · #14

yah I tried a flex headed ratchet today and with the socket its just too long by the looks/feel of it.....then I heated and bent a 17mm wrench and it goes on but the angles still ghey enough that it cant be turned....plus I cracked it a bit heating it....lol.......didnt think getting the mounts off would be this big of a bitch!!!!

so I guess Ill have to hit up the parts place and see what they have....

I love how swaps nickle and dime ya to death haha
