So, I'm heading back to my hometown next weekend since summer classes are finally out, and I'm going to finish gutting my s12 for a KA swap. My question is, where does the voice come from, is it the ECU or what? I have to admit I've grown partial to it, and would like to know if there's any way to keep it.

i have a renewed interest in this thing.

optional on some cars. its basicaly wired into the door switches ebrake and fuel level sender so... it might be a bitch to install if u dont have it

a tin pan alleyDec 31, 2009, 9:08 am · #8

well my door switches and ebrake already don't work, so..

I am wondering if my notch didnt come with it than...although my notch has power windows and has the button for the box on the center console. Does anyone know if they got the lady in like russia or ukraine and if she has a russian accent? That would be bad ass to have. "In soviet russia, door shuts you!"

voice was only mkI iirc

a tin pan alleyJan 3, 2010, 6:54 am · #12

thanks! that's really helpful info, in case i decide to start hunting one down.

LyniumJan 3, 2010, 7:58 am · #13

voice is only mk1...
hmm.. guess I have an MK1 notch then..

It sounds like normal english to me..

She even makes me blush...
LIke when I was in an auto cross, got all excited n carried away, and come to a stop in the stop box and then suddenly I hear, "Parking brake is on... Parking brake is..."

Ugh... it was like a moan of disgust at my poor techniques and experience.

I too plan to gut out most of my electrical, and would love to keep that sweet little voice for some wierd reason. Just grown attached to her I guess...

a tin pan alleyJan 3, 2010, 8:17 am · #14

well if you ever feel like breaking up with her, let me know

LyniumJan 3, 2010, 8:26 am · #15

we'll see ow things go. If I cant re-incorporate her into my plans, then you can have her for shipping.
It wont be for along time yet before I knwo though, so keep looking.
If I had my way, Id LOVE to get my hands on the japanese version.. although not 100% sure if its still a female voice.. lol

Does she worm through the dr. Speaker or somewhere else,
mine works sometimes and would love to hear her always

EternalSwapi think i have one i pulled outta my notch

would it be "SE compatible"? not sure how it worked. actually, i'm completely ignorant about the damn thing.

blue streakDoes she worm through the dr. Speaker or somewhere else,

if I recal correctly, I *THINK* she comes across in just the drivers side door speaker... I knpw it kinda tripped me out the first time...

It may have its own speaker though up under the dash, but Im pretty sure it comes through the door speaker.. dont know how its integrated. I have a pioneer deck in mine, and it kidna cuts out the music/radio/TV/PS2...

is SE the V6..

I know I was confused for awhile about the SX and SE logo. or EX... Ugh there I go again.

I dont have V6... mine is.. *Gulp* SX EX notch.

I think it might depend on a bit more than simply the voice modual itself. Maybe some kinda amp thingy.. and possibly the security thingy... ? (I have a keypad and stuff on my drivers door.. never could get it to work cuz it seems to think theres always a door or something open.. (Im thinking the hood or trunk)
I played with all the switches and stuff to fix it so I could use the keyless entry n all, but after awhile of pissing with things never got it and never got back around to it.

But some study of the wiring diagrams would explain it all...

I want to try and re-install it after I rip out every wire and start over from scratch... yeah right... lol

I so want a JDM version (if one exists).

TurboNotchBut those style doors still open in the same way as normal doors, just backwards. The Lambo style doors arnt realy a bad idea, the hard part is getting them to work right. Most of the ones I've seen are crap due to poor instalation. If the hinges are braced right and adjusted right they tend to work well. But I think they would look like shit on full frame doors like ours.

Not so sure about our SX's but I have gotten in and out of a couple of lambo conversions and did not like the way I had to squirm past the damn things. I am not a big fan of knots on my head either, which is inevitable with those.

Too much work, too little clearance, too silly lookin on anything other than a Lambo, too much...  Oh I just think they are stupid.

I just thought I would toss out the folding door thing as a teaser, I do not seriously want them, specially since I would prolly have to go back up to stock ride height.

Do look cool though, for show cars that are not driven very far from their trailer.

Wolf DilworthMay 22, 2010, 3:16 am · #23

^^^ I think you got something there.

s-chassis_onlyNov 15, 2010, 2:15 am · #24

ya unless they shoot back then you'd be screwed and would be different on a s12 rather have suicide doors if any door mod

s-chassis_onlyNov 18, 2010, 4:31 am · #25

or jus a japanese guy talking to u in japanese wouldnt be bad im sure there's a japanese one

ProlowtoneNov 18, 2010, 11:26 pm · #26

..... Your car would get partialy soaked or covered in snow if you tried to get in to the car in a storm. P;us if someone was coming after you it would not be a very quick acting shield. Plus we all like to aim for the people biking past in trafic

XanoNov 18, 2010, 11:49 pm · #27

ancient post ftl.  Notice all the example cars are the type of cars without full frame doors, as was mentioned.  It really only works if you have a door that has no window track above the door edge.

if i have time i will look through my shop and car manual to see what i can find

hotdoghogieNov 19, 2010, 7:19 am · #29

i took mine out, cuz the wiring is screwed, and only worked half the time.. i have no need for the box, ill let it go cheap..

Jus sayin lol

I thought it was cool, till it got a little annoying.. "key is in the ignition".. but never worked for the fuel..(i thought she was supposed to say "fuel is low".. atleast thats what i read somewhere online.

celestialsilviaNov 19, 2010, 3:47 pm · #34

DeezusNov 19, 2010, 7:24 pm · #36

only thing mine tells me is if i forget to turn my lights off.

s-chassis_onlyNov 19, 2010, 7:32 pm · #37

saves you from dead batteries so i bet that helpful

DeezusNov 19, 2010, 7:33 pm · #38

not really.. cause i park in a garage so i can tell if i leave my lights on. And when i got her to work the first thing she told me was my door was open, and that was only 1 time.

mcNov 20, 2010, 4:46 pm · #39

i notice the alarm light on the dash doesnt do anything anymore...i tried to set off the alarm and it doesnt work...where is the fuse location on the factory alarm??..thx,mike

KeithNov 20, 2010, 4:59 pm · #40

Dumb question, but is the switch that is in the fuse box turned on?  I know on mine if that switch is turned off the alarm light doesn't blink

mcNov 20, 2010, 6:33 pm · #41

i dont think the 88 cars have that switch....it was on my old 87.
