Has anyone fitted one to a ca18det in a s12? Does it clear everything with a t3/t4? Any other turbo options with a top mount header? I've only seen top mounts for a ca18det for a t3/t4
Top Mount Header
You could always get one of those top mounts, then buy a T25/28 flange and have it welded on in place of the T3/4 flange. I had thought about it.
Whats wrong with a T3/T4 on an 18DET? Too much lag? Power too high on the rev-band or something? Just curious, thats all.
honestly, i'm not 100% sure what's "wrong" with the T3/4....it's just that i prefer the Garrett's. i am suspecting though that the T3/4 wouldn't spool until later in the rpm range; from what i gather they're more suited to small displacement drag-race applications. once again, that info is conjectrual, as i don't really know alot about those turbos.
What I really would like to do is a bb t28 with a top mount, since there is little room with a bottom mount. But like I said I've only seen top mounts for t3/ t4's.
An adaptor plate could be an option, if they make it.....t3/ t4-to-t28 flange. I've seen dsm-to-garrett adaptor plates before, so maybe they're out there.
this thread makes no sense. a t3/t4 is made by garrett... what are you talking about SmashedGlass? Garrett makes T and GT series turbos. Mitsubishi makes TD series.
I have a td06-20g (t3/t4) on my ca18det and its awesome. Not too laggy and over 300whp. I also ran a gt28r on a stock bottom mount manifold and made 278whp. It was kinda maxing out though. If you want a t2 flanged turbo, run a stock cast bottom mount manifold. It won't crack like those ebay top mounts will... I run a thick tubular steel top mount I had custom made with a tial external gate now. Its not shiny and blingin like those ebay things, but it holds up to the test of time and puts the turbo in the right spot. the ebay t3/t4 manifold puts the turbo in your brake booster on LHD cars.
my turbo set up:
i meant i preferred the T25's and 28's, i usually just refer to mine as the Garrett..force of habit i guess. and my preference for them stems from them spooling quicker, as opposed to the T3 series, but perhaps my thinking is flawed?? as i clearly stated NeedCA, i don't really know much about the T3's other than every wannabe Honda ric...racer in town wants one.
