I have used the search thing but i cant realy find the answer...
I know if i want an VLSD from s13 i need to use two left side shafts and all that, mixing the parts together.
BUT if i buy a real 1.5 or 2 way LSD from Nismo or any other mark. Wil i need to do all this shaft swapping. Or is it a bolt in then?

If you get a clutch type/aftermarket, make sure you get the unit that says it's for an open differential and you won't have to swap shafts and all that.
+2
if it were only that easy for the r180
nismo200sx16if it were only that easy for the r180
Swapping in an r200 would be worth while and not very expensive.
not when you already have a custom aluminum drive shaft.
yeah, i still have to get around to pulling my diff apart and putting my Nismo R180 unit in....then we'll see how much, if any, modification is required. all the specs say it should work.

Was your original diff r200 or r180?
I have myself a s14 vlsd (r200), just right now its laying around the garage somewhere, before i come back and try and fit it
nismo200sx16not when you already have a custom aluminum drive shaft.im in the same situation. i think im just going to get an s13 driveshaft and mate it to my stock s12 driveshaft. or worst case, put an r200 end on the custom one
i currently have an 88 200sx se V6, problem is.... its automatic!!!! I have 2 options atm... i love my s12 but theres a guy in town selling a 90' sirocco 16v, 88k miles, looks clean.... $1200... my other option is finding another s12 and getting a total transmission swap.. if anyone has any information or experience in this feild... please share cause the sirocco is starting to sound like a lot less work and it might be a better car, (if anone doesnt know, this car is so rare that i have never seen one before in my life) and i could prolly fetch 2500 or more for my s12.
Where are you located? 300zx drivetrain is cheap man. I would stick to that if you have the tools.
Just some advice, rare cars mean rare parts, and rare parts are expensive parts.

I've actually been surprised by how cheap s12 parts are.

mmm....scirocco...
5spd SE's are heaps of fun but its gonna be a lot of work and a complete pain ni the ass if you dont have EVERYTHING and know what you're doing. i sold most all my SE shit just this weekend but i still have a 5pd ECU if you end up going that route. personally, id get the scirocco tho
You will need to built a custom support for the tranny if you swap from auto. to man.
Other than that it's ok!
My friend got one(From 1983 Non-turbo 3.90 gearing) and got it welded and now he does not want it. So my obviously question is...Will it fit. Now I know search but I can't get a definitive answer (Maybe i'm not looking hard enough) Any help would be great
Thanks

Thanks
Facts:
- Z31 rear susp fits
- Z31 diff fits after some work
if the 280 used the same rear as the z31 then i suppose it would.
From what I understand. The 280zx diff is the same as the ca18et diff. Both are 10mm long snout r200's. So the 280zx diff should bolt up as long as you use the turbo s12 half shafts.
*where you have an SE it would actually be a downgrade from your 12mm r200. The best thing you can do is install an lsd meant for a non-lsd 240sx. It is a direct bolt in. If you're cheap you can have your diff welded. But keep in mind it's irreversable.
dave seems to have answered your question but i would suggest asking something like this on the Z forums. i frequent hybrid Z personally..but there's others of course
Yeah I put a chuck out of a 280ZX into a S12 case fit perfect. so yeah they are the same.
Alright, I Got all of my answers now. I know it would be a downgrade here. But I'm going to go and get my Current Diff welded, Because I do plan on getting a real LSD. So this would be more of a spare, Say if I was going to the Drag races or going to some drift event That way I would not put all of the stress on the one I have now. You all have been a Great help.
Thanks!
im located in tallahassee FL, i theres a pick & pull ( a more "upscale" junkyard) that has2 300zx turbos both standard (i grabbed one of the turbos from one a while back), the main problem im seeing is that the 2 cars have been up there for at least a year so chances are the transmission is gonna be a little worn (by little i mean total rust eaten trash)and im wondering if the guy with the scirocco would be considering a trade or maby i will have to sell my car. on that last note if anyone wants to buy a realy clean s12.....

as far as tools go I have access to 3 shops (my best bud owns 2 and another good freind of mine owns 1 ) so tools and manpower isnt the problem just the parts
